Espgaluda HG101 Article - Fact-Checking Needed! LAST CALL!

Post by BulletMagnet »

Hello again everyone – as some of you might have noticed, the Deathsmiles article for HG101 that I asked for help on a short while back has finally been posted (here’s the link). Many thanks to those who lent me a hand with the fact-checking for it…but I’ve got another one coming up, this time on the Espgaluda games, and it needs to be put through the wringer too! In similar fashion to the first one, I’ll paste my current draft into the next post, and let you have at it: any omissions or errors you catch, please let me know so I can fix them! A few specific things I’m looking for clarification on are as follows:

1) To the best of my knowledge, the “Esp” in the title is not capitalized, as it was in ESP Ra.de – however, I have seen the title written both with the caps and as “EspgaLuda” with a capital “L”. Any idea which is correct?

2) I’m not sure about the origins of Asagi’s name, so if someone could confirm/deny the “butterfly” reference that’d be great.

3) What’s a rough translation of “zetsushikai”? I’m having trouble figuring one out…Google seems to suggest “absolute death” or something like that, but I’m hesitant to go with that, as you’d expect.

4) The story seems to make reference to some sort of “true spirit society”, but I’m not sure how it fits in amidst the two kingdoms featured in the two games.

As always, anything else you notice, please mention it (same goes for the Deathsmiles article, which will be updated once the PAL version comes out) – thanks in advance, once again! :)

Kakusei Zetsushikai = "Holy Awakening: Death Insulation Field / Absolute Death Field" it seems.

Kanji from Cave's website: "覚聖絶死界"

From the kanji analysis:

"絶" - Zetsu = a noun/verb for "insulation" or "isolation". Other readings could mean "destruction", "tremendous/immense" or "miraculous" depending on the kanji paired with it
"死" - Shi = Death
"界" Kai = Field (as in magnetic field), boundary or surface

Wouldn't the term be pronounced "kakusei zesshikai"?

Zesshikai is probably the correct one, but I've read Zetsushikai here and there, too. Maybe both are actually possible or is there any official word from CAVE regarding the reading?
Do a quick google search and find out that the japanese people don't know how to read the characters either. :P

I'm pretty sure it's some rule within the Japanese language; Tekken is another example, otherwise the characters would be pronounced "Tetsuken".

It would be except that it's an invented word and Espgaluda II BL has it romanized as zetsushikai in-game. Just treat 絶 as a prefix rather than as part of the compound making up the word I suppose.

Nice write-up. Some minor corrections for the first game:

- not all power-ups are always released when you die (I think how many you lose depends on how many times you've died, or something like that), so you might find yourself stuck at a lower level for a while.

- Jakou's final form is damaged by kakusei, which allows you to collect gold from the final attack. It just damages him much more slowly.

- The soundtrack is not by Manabu Namiki.

Thanks for the literal translation - I'll hafta figure out the best way of wording that, heh.
Zesshikai is probably the correct one, but I've read Zetsushikai here and there, too.
I've heard both used as well, so I'll definitely have to make some mention of each.

I'd forgotten about that - will be fixed.

I have seen a replay of that final form being "gold-ed", but I thought the player whittled Jakou down to a sliver, shot off a few final bullets, and switched into kakusei before they hit to cash in "on a technicality" - maybe I oughta track it down and watch it again. (EDIT: After watching this video it would appear that you are correct - will be fixed. :))
- The soundtrack is not by Manabu Namiki.
Yeah, someone at HG101 pointed that out to me earlier today - apparently Namiki only did an arranged track or two. On the "to correct" list.

Thanks again everyone, and keep the insight coming! :)

The Namiki track ("Dynasty") is not an arrange track, but a 'preview' for Mushihimesama.

Hmm...an interesting factoid, though I'm not sure there's any decent way for me to insert it here...hopefully whoever ends up doing a corresponding Mushi article will throw it in, heh.
