I'm decent (I think I may be the youngest player to ever get DDP to loop) but my consistency is terrible. I have more off days than actual days of progress. I guess that means, on average, I suck.

How old were you when you did it? I think I looped it when I was 16...and it was a complete fluke

Tbh another thing which matters is self control...I usually get nervous as hell through the entire run and perfecting stage 3 and 4 in practice turns into the st2 boss being an inpenetrable wall.(at least when it comes to no missing it)

Well I could never 1 credit a game like Espgaluda 2 (except on novice of course) I pretty much suck at shooters compared to most dedicated players but I console myself with the fact that I play a huge range of games and I'm 'ok' at most of them, so I'm a jack of all trades master of none perhaps

Taking a certain frame of reference...taking into account the high difficulty of shmups, and more significantly, the insanely sky-high score/performance ceiling that is common in many of the genre's most keystone games--then most shmuppers, even the dedicated among us, suck kangaroo testicles.

On the other hand, my guess would be that pretty much every bullett dancing fanatical twitch artist who frequents the dim hallways of this forum has (or soon will) over time cultivated a proficiency at shmup-games that would baffle pretty much every white or black-skinned call of duty/halo/guitar hero-playing/wi-remote flicking video game enthusiast most commonly met with in the west.

As with most things I don't go into playing shmups of any kind with any kind of expectations or goals.

What I aim for is to see if the game has that "one more go" factor. If it does I am enjoying it. Who cares if your good at it or not? You don't learn to drive to be as good as F1 drivers do you?

Well by the standards of this forum I am a truly poor player but I've learned that:
a) the more practice I put into a well made shmup then the more enjoyment I get from it and
b) credit feeding produces only a shallow satisfaction
Also wonder whether age does have something to do with it in terms of reaction times, memory, time available for practice and being preoccupied with other shit. Anyone who can genuinely afford to practice 6hrs a day probably hasn't got much else going on eh? (And if they did when they started they won't have by the end of the week).
Also wonder whether I am the oldest person on this forum- who over the age of 30 dares to post their age?

I couldn't play 6 hours on a shmup even if I had the time. Games in general yes, but not shmups.

Oh and I suck. Big time. Been playing RSG for 2 weeks every day and I'm still shit. Fucking game is laughing at me with every 20p I feed it.

I'm pretty bad, but that's mainly due to the fact that as much as I like the genre, I still prefer spending my time playing TF2 with e-friends (Medic is the only class I can say I'm pretty good at). TF2 is also the only FPS I've liked since Q3A.

I'm also prone to switching between shmups instead of sticking to one game. That's a habit I should probably get out of.

Perhaps I had faster reflexes when I was younger, but I control those reflexes better now.

Anyway, enough of this age shit. I don't want to dwell on the fact that I may eventually be physically incapable of playing these games well.

While I will likely never 1CC it, I continue to improve on Battle Garegga, to the point where getting into stage 3 is a regular accomplishment and I am getting better at knowing when a medal is going to be dropped and catching it.

When I'm not playing shmups, I'm playing Bonk's Adventure which isn't very often anymore.

However, when i dedicate my time to a game i can manage to have a session of sheer performance, but the consistency is horrible (that said, the first time i no missed larsa in futari bl god i was happy like a carebear).
If i stop playing a game for a while or slightly change conditions, i will go back to my sucking roots.
Even changing the position of my chair in front of the TV induces a big drop in my level, go figure...

The other shmups, all depends... good enough to 1cc, not enough to 1life usually.
