No, it does not run in low-res. It is high-res filtered. Apparently not as bad as Dragon Blaze and that shit (don't know, never played them) but it is far from perfect. I was just at Wanderer's. We played Mushi for a few hours, then popped in ESPGaluda -- day and night. ESPGaluda was 10x easier on the eyes (and of course prettier).

The sound level is extremely low. Sounds good though, once you've turned it up that is.
Be attitude for gains:

And a shameless plug for the stuff I'm selling on eBay, if you're into that sort of thing.

Ah, I see. Thank you for the heads up BulletM/Ghegs. ^^^^Psikyo/Last level/Full Rank??? Zoinks! No wonder the word on the street is "Original is tough!"Ghegs wrote:The enemy placement is exactly the same in all three modes, but yes, shot patterns vary and the bullets are very fast in Original. Think Psikyo games, the last level, at full rank. That's pretty much how it is in Original by stage 3.gunbird18 wrote:And Original more difficult than Maniac? What is the reason? Enemies have different shot patterns? More ground/air enemies??? Sorry if this was discussed before...just wondering about the differences.

I'm totally clueless as to what the difference is between Rapid Shot and Full Auto. I couldn't tell what the point of Full Auto was in Galuda either. I've even played on two different Galuda arcade machines, one with Full Auto and one without, and couldn't tell the difference!...so, uh, what's Full Auto?
And yes, I ran a bit of Galuda and DOJ last night both before and after playing Mushi, and... yes, the Arika ports are DEFINITELY much sharper and cleaner-looking, in both yoko AND tate. It's really too bad...

Just added a more detailed explanation on autofire and counter banking to slateman's ST. All info required is available here, if anyone's interested.yyr wrote:I'm totally clueless as to what the difference is between Rapid Shot and Full Auto. Finally got it this afternoon, went home and played it on my lunch break. I love it so far. Played through the first level and took down the big, stomping orange beatle. I love being able to see the hitbox, first shmup I have played where it can be made visible which was a small treat for me. I tried type B (?) weapon the spreadshot which I like. The wonderful use of color and detail in the game coupled with the insect/nature theme makes this a perfect game to play during the summer.
Seeing armies of little bugs marching through a forest like little tanks with bigger dragonflies as heavy cruisers is truly a unique shooter experience. I also really dug blasting the bark off a tree to reveal a bunch of maggots squirming underneath.
All in all, I cannot wait to dig into this beast more. Seems just like yesterday about one year ago we were looking at the teaser art poster for the game and wondering what it would be like. So far I think it was well worth the wait.

Hope you get it soon, Ganson!
I knew I saw it somewhere, forgot which shmup it was. Any other shmups have this?BulletMagnet wrote:If you like that feature try the doujin shmups "Perfect Cherry Blossom" and "Imperishable Night," they have that feature.Dylan1CC wrote:I love being able to see the hitbox, first shmup I have played where it can be made visible which was a small treat for me.

The Shikigami games do it, too.Dylan1CC wrote:Hope you get it soon, Ganson!

Yeah, the Shikigami games do it when you are super close to danger. When you are at tension x8, your hitbox glows nicely.Ghegs wrote:The Shikigami games do it, too.Dylan1CC wrote:Hope you get it soon, Ganson!

Hey there,
Just a quick newbie question. I notice that when i play this game sometimes there is a clearly visible small circle around my hitbox. At other times, I don't see the small circle and I just have to guess as to where my hitbox is. How exactly do you get that small circle to show up throughout your entire playing experience? I find it much easier to play with the circle visible than without it.
Thanks for any help you could provide.

You don't. The hitbox becomes visible only when you hold the shot button down and move at a reduced speed. Don't worry, you'll get a feel for the hitbox soon enough so you won't even need the visual aid.Visceral_1 wrote:How exactly do you get that small circle to show up throughout your entire playing experience?

Meh, lots of ignorant bitching in that review (Slowdown in MM?Feature in GW?Please, review and explain its virtues, don't dis other games, it's pointless).Beside that, Namiki quotes Kukeiha club's work on Gradius and some early works by Megaten Hosoe, not Zuntata---Stormowl wrote:interesting write up for the game at 1up.com:

Beside the tangent, we're in two, SO. Let's cry together for consolation

"The only desire the Culture could not satisfy from within itself was one common to both the descendants of its original human stock and the machines [...]: the urge not to feel useless."

I actually think his review/preview was very fair and Mielke definitely sounds like he is a somewhat avid shooter fan. I mean, some people here like Ikaruga & GW and then some don't and that is an understatement (Ikaruga is an "evil puzzle game" don't get me started). But I went in there and set the record straight a bit, my post:Randorama wrote:Meh, lots of ignorant bitching in that review (Slowdown in MM?Feature in GW?Please, review and explain its virtues, don't dis other games, it's pointless).Beside that, Namiki quotes Kukeiha club's work on Gradius and some early works by Megaten Hosoe, not Zuntata---Stormowl wrote:interesting write up for the game at 1up.com:

A small correction on soundtrack influence...
Dylan1CC (07/28/2005)
edit
...Namiki has quoted Kukeiha club's work on Gradius and some early works by Megaten Hosoe as being an influence on the soundtrack, not Zuntata's more ambient and modern techno.
Otherwise, good review. The game has tight control (when holding down the fire button you can see the hitbox which is helpful), beautiful and wildly imaginative art (like the bugs disguised as trees and the big manta ray shaped moths? beautiful...) it is indeed more fun and easier to get into initially than DDP Dai Ou Jou. But Giga Wing and the mighty Ikaruga's battle system not fun? Blasphemy, Milkman! :p And getting medals in Mushihime-Sama is 10X simpler than reflecting and grabbing medallions in GW, but it is still fun.
Anyways, folks better buy this before it goes up in price, especially if you want the ltd edition with the shwag-ariffic child Reko/Kinrio toy.

Quoted from the 1up review - "There's also a ranking mode in which you can blaze through the game at preset standards, and take your results and post them to Cave's online ranking board."
Did I completely miss this in the PS2 version? I'm pretty sure it isn't in there. Quite a few other things he says are incorrect too (like you get a "no miss" bonus for shooting all the enemies in a level).

I'm really happy to see that Mielke is still keeping up on shmups. Before I found shmups.com, most of what I knew about shooters was thanks to Milkman, his various reviews of shmups and his useful article, aptly titled "GMR's really useful guide to shooters." If it weren't for that article, I would probably still be playing Halo and would know nothing about Battle Garegga and DDP. I suppose it's fair to say that Milkman changed my life significantly for the better. My only criticism: if it weren't for him, I probably wouldn't have wasted so much time playing shmups with analog control. But this is easily forgiven.

Reviews of shooters should be read at pretty much only shooter-related websites.Did I completely miss this in the PS2 version? I'm pretty sure it isn't in there. Quite a few other things he says are incorrect too (like you get a "no miss" bonus for shooting all the enemies in a level).
