Mushihime Sama Ps2 impressions
Well I got my hands on Mushihime Sama for Ps2 and must say this is one magnificent port.
For those wondering Taito/Cave included a Tate mode where you can turn the Screen right or left. I think this is one of the coolest TATE options ever in a shmup. Also included is a Gallery mode and 3 gameplay modes and a ARRANGE mode (Sans ARRANGE MUSIC).
In the options you can change your controls and the volume levels on BGM and Sound Effects.
Pictures of the menus:

The only gripes I have is there is alot of occasional slowdown when the screen is filled with enemies and explosions and the music starts over/Resets after you pause.
Overall a fine port that is Exactly like the PCB but with added modes. I do however miss the Arika Super replay modes that were not added to this release. ALSO MISSING IS THE ARRANGE MUSIC (BLEH!)
Also the gallery does not display in TATE Mode correctly.
Hopefully the price of the PCB can go down some now that this is out.
Since it is out on Playstation 2 and affordable I say go buy this NOW!!!!

There are probably separate high score tables for Normal/Maniac/Ultra modes, but are there also separate score tables for easy/normal/hard/etc. difficulties? Probably not, considering the past history of Cave home ports, but I figured I might as well ask...
No extra modes aside from the gallery? No stage attack/training/simulation type stuff?

You shouldn't be playing on anything other than default anyway.BulletMagnet wrote:There are probably separate high score tables for Normal/Maniac/Ultra modes, but are there also separate score tables for easy/normal/hard/etc. difficulties? Nice, thanks thirdstrike!
"Occasional" slowdown is definitely forgiveable for such a bullet intense game. How did you get a copy of the game, btw? Do you work for a site or mag if I may ask?

I was waiting for someone to say that to bust my chops.
EDIT: Actually, while I'm thinking about it, what exactly is the Arrange mode like?

Nope None of that cool stuff was added .This seems to be a very bare bones port.BulletMagnet wrote:There are probably separate high score tables for Normal/Maniac/Ultra modes, but are there also separate score tables for easy/normal/hard/etc. difficulties? No extra modes aside from the gallery? No stage attack/training/simulation type stuff?
I received a copy early from a friend who Imports PS2 games.
Level 3 has way to much slowdown its almost unbearable
I like my bullets nice and fast not SLOW and waiting. I think this game pushes the ps2 as far as possible. However I think Arika would of done this port justice.

OK, well in your first post you say "this is one magnificent port" so one could assume from that it's not a big deal. Also, if it's missing more than a few wanted options that might not have been the correct wording to use.ThirdStrike wrote:Nope None of that cool stuff was added .This seems to be a very bare bones port.BulletMagnet wrote:There are probably separate high score tables for Normal/Maniac/Ultra modes, but are there also separate score tables for easy/normal/hard/etc. difficulties? It is a great port considering this genre is very Niche and we are lucky to received this game. Although I think it may be a bit rushed (Missing what we have come to expect) it seems like Arika put at least a year into Dodonpachi Dai Ou Jou and Espgaluda each. The ammount of options is just amazing in those 2 games compared to this release.Dylan1CC wrote:OK, well in your first post you say it's "a magnificent port" so one could assume from that it's not a big deal.ThirdStrike wrote:Nope None of that cool stuff was added .This seems to be a very bare bones port.BulletMagnet wrote:There are probably separate high score tables for Normal/Maniac/Ultra modes, but are there also separate score tables for easy/normal/hard/etc. difficulties? As for the Slowdown that was on ULTRA mode and the ps2 was chugging along trying to keep up with the limited video memory is can handle.

How are the auto fire options, I hear they are quite extensive.

BTW, did you get the limited edition toy?

There are practice modes, look under the arcade menu. arcade->practice
There's level select, start on boss or beginning stage, and rank settings. You have a choice between 'default' 'no miss' and 'saved' rank from another practice run.
The PCB has quite a bit of slowdown too, but I'll let someone who owns both versions compare them.

There's an additional 'rapid' menu with 20 settings each for 'rapid shot' and 'rapid full auto'.ThirdStrike wrote:The auto fire options and buttons configuration include:Ord wrote:How are the auto fire options, I hear they are quite extensive.
Shot
Bomb
Full Auto
Rapid Shot
Rapid Full Auto
Yes, it rapid fires the 'full auto' button.
^^^
Yes it's the 20 additional rapid fire options that i was talking about.

Not sure if you've played the arcade version, it is plagued with slowdown - even normal mode where the big stomping bug boss is.ThirdStrike wrote: As for the Slowdown that was on ULTRA mode and the ps2 was chugging along trying to keep up with the limited video memory is can handle.
Please stop perpetuating the video memory myth. There are too many games that destroy the theory, and draw an awful lot more than mushi does. It's memory for textures that's the problem anyway, and a single bullet uses as much as 20,000 do, since it's the same image.

Thanks, blood. I seriously wanna copy and paste the above in bold now anytime someone complains about the port.bloodflowers wrote:Not sure if you've played the arcade version, it is plagued with slowdown - even normal mode where the big stomping bug boss is.ThirdStrike wrote: As for the Slowdown that was on ULTRA mode and the ps2 was chugging along trying to keep up with the limited video memory is can handle.

Obsessive compulsive art house trips also. Ben actually provides worthwhile discussion besides...*gasp*...screen resolution and "historian" tangents.Recap wrote:Shut up. Try to learn something from him, then. You indeed need it.Dylan1CC wrote:Obsessive compulsive art house trips also. Recap, don't take this too seriously, just being candid: the point stands, nobody likes the way you post. Nobody. You're boring. Admin doesn't like the way you post either. I don't care if you ask about scanlines, true res ect. You can ask to your heart's content. We're just pointing out the obvious: you repeat the same thing over and over again as Herr said. Hence your name "Recap." Now get back on topic, and stop boring the living crap outta people with your tedious, non-stop moaning.
