This is not a CAVE port though, so it's not relevant.
I am aware 5pb / Aqua Systems botched this. I am just using it as in reference to time as if it ever comes out. Seems to me like the patch is Vaporware for DOJ and the chances of Cave actually fixing Guwange's display aspect ratio in 4:3 are slim at best.

I agree with Japhei, it is certainly in poor form. :D

But seriously, besides the forced widescreen, the port seems fine. Do all XBLA ports have forced widescreen? I know Bomberman Live does.

Nope, unless it's a very late addition to the terms of newer titles. I remember Time Pilot being full screen.

The issue isn't forced widescreen but on a CRT via RGB its letterboxed and you're losing 20% of the screen top and bottom which is an utterly bizzare way to display this. It must be unviewable and almost unplayable on a small TV.

I haven't tried it yet so I'm not familiar with the problem, but I'm sure it's just Cave wanting to pander to the widest 360 audience -- that is, peeps with hi-def TV sets. I'm betting they're banking on the fact that no one with a 360 is running a display under 720p.

And it could be some type of fuckery from MS.

I'm not sure I'm going to download this - I've played it a bit on mame and unless the arrange modes are really good I'll pass. The forced 16:9 is awful though (uk snes anyone), and yeah, I'd expect DFK to be the same...

Just to check to those who have both, is it the same as Deathsmiles 2 - In yoko, with a 4:3 CRT, is there no way of getting rid of the black bars at the top and bottom? Have you tried putting the xbox into 16:9 mode, as this usually stretches the picture tall and should get rid of the black borders (this didn't work on DS2 though).

I regularly play Trigger Heart in tate on my Arcade monitor so this is definitely not the case. Time to email bomb Cave-world. They seem to at least properly convey complaint to the cave team.

Depends on the monitor. Even with use of the height/width pots I can't get fullscreen on my 4:3 crt.

While I usually buy a lot of arcade games I never play out of princinple, like final fight etc, this is a little too much fuckery to waste money on. I have a quite big CRT I can't tate and it looks like total shit, completely unplayable.

Not only that, but "showing support" looks like a pointless exercise. The game isn't mentionned anywhere on the dashboard news, the preview artwork is ass, the description is a badly translated boring mess (at least in french), there's no screenshots, and basically no incentive to download the game whatsoever for anyone.

This is the first time I see Cave fuck up this bad. No big deal though, I never liked Guwange anyway. I'll probably hurt the chances of future arcade ports too. Ah well, fuck videogames.

No go, just tried it.

Not a humungous deal to me, but of course, I have a tated LCD anyway. Sucks for people still rocking CRTs though. I might try using my HD Box Pro to downscale the 720p image to 480p later and see how it looks, that's the only way I could see it working fullscreen on a 4:3.

Yeah I don't think I will be buying this, and I love wasting money on XBLA. I will probably buy it if it goes on sale which is doubtful. But thats okay because I too don't care much for Guwange.

There's always a delay between XBLA games being released and (eventually) being shown on the front of the dash. It'll appear eventually.

I have only checked out the demo of this but is there something wrong with the slowdown ? it seems a bit choppy (check out level 1 boss)

problem with having to emulate the slowdown or is it just me ?

You're kidding, right? Check out DeathSmiles, ESPGALUDA II or Futari. Do any of these games' GUI display crappy on a 16:9 set. No. Do they display crappy on a 4:3. No. There is no reason whatsoever to force a port of a 4:3 arcade title to 16:9 unless CAVE get paid money from flat screen TV manufacturers under the table.

We need to protest about this retarded widescreen setup on their English Twitter site. Is it possible to upload/download replays? It's not evident from the trial. Very unlikely I'll be buying this unless they sort the stupid borders out.

Wouldn't put it past them.

Also, I don't think it's fair to compare the options in a full-priced release to an XBLA release. Maybe they felt it wasn't worth the extra effort for a $10 release. Who knows.

Being forced to 16:9 is terrible. Not being able to zoom the playfield to full screen while using 16:9 is also terrible. Not being able to set the background to automatically change, rather than remain static all the time sucks as well, especially for us plasma owners.

Botched release by Cave for sure. These are pretty basic features, especially the first 2.

Replays are working fine in the full game.

This is what my monitor can display with full stretch + maxed out chassis remote controls without touching the controls on the chassis (I really don't want to):

Image

I've added red borders to the (rather crappy) picture so you can see how much screen real estate is unused.

And a question to Elixir or whoever got this with Japanese Live! points: Does the Japanese XBLA display the original Logo on the title screen, or this new GUWANGE text? I tried playing my EU bought release using my Japanese account, but I don't get the original logo anyway.
