lol@internet cred

but seriously, when cave releases their next book, how will they know that EOJ is the Godfather if no one sources him?

I'd hate to see him miss out on translating his own interview.

Then I guess that would make existence one huge survival horror game, no?

Hmm. Shame that guy turned into such a weirdo. Shmups are a niche genre-
He was probably more or less turned off by the average poster here. I agree that the genre itself is on it's last leg, so the long term fans are going to fizzle out, and questionable ones join, but other than news about games, I don't think there's a single thread in the main topic that hasn't been done a few times before. As such, the usual douchebaggery ensues where people bitch about region protecting, middlemen fees, shipping, scanlines, offer their surefire advice on how a company like Cave can thrive.... and on and on....
So......we'll probably see a translated version of the YGW interview?

I can understand that, but running away to a private forum and taking your ball with you doesn't help the situation, it just makes it worse. Dragging the content there and placing it behind lock and key achieves the following things:

1) Reduces the number of new players who might turn into the 'true fans' he values so highly.
2) Reduces the amount of good information available on the games, which feeds into the above - better information results in better players, better players tend to become more devoted to games. It's similar to the forum post quality issue (standard are lower now than before) - with fewer quality posts, there's no benchmark for other people to strive to meet.
3) He clearly cared about people knowing he was an authority on Cave games. I can understand being upset if someone fails to credit you for your work, but locking them away seems more like a self defeating backlash.
4) It pretty much signs the death certificate on cave-stg - if you don't open the doors to new people, or indeed established ones who simply don't post much, you turn into a clubhouse of increasing obscurity and decreasing numbers.

For the record - a few months back, I was banned for two months because "EOJ from Cave-STG" was apparently insufficient sourcing. I found out after the fact that he considered anything that didn't hotlink the exact post the information was pulled from unsourced.

Anyway, bloodflowers pretty much summed up anything else I'd say on the matter.

I'm gonna start my own Toaplan-forum featuring all the important Toaplan-news. Which will be none. The forum will in fact not even exist on the internet, only in my own mind. But you will not be allowed to join, and that's allt that matters.

On a serious note I never really liked the place. Not because of EOJ or anyone else, but simply because I like all kinds of shmups and not only cave. Sure, there are some noobs asking old questions here from time to time. But what's the fun of being an elitist if you don't have any noobs to which you can be an elitist?

EOJ said you can email him if you want an account. Don't know how he'll determine who he'll approve, but it's not like he's completely shut the site off from new members.

In any case, I love being part of closed and elitist communities. team bemaniso represent

With that e-mail, you have to send a self-portrait that includes no fewer than two (2) complete Cave kits and a loli vinyl toy to prove the seriousness of your collector status.

True, that's not the part that bugs me. The part that does is that he took down some stuff he contributed to here. : ( I don't understand the logic to that. I've never been a fan of everybody being punished for one or two people (in this case- not sourcing or properly sourcing- information from the internet o.o)

Yes, Cave is the best shmupmaker today. But they dwarf compared to Toaplan, Taito and Raizing. But who cares, it's just personal taste.

Team CAVE-STG for stgt11 please!

Throw in Team Insomnia AC as well to heat up the competition a little.

Great idea. Im gonna start a Raizing forum as well. Make it to top-10 on the hi score boards if you wanna join this forum.

Hell, I'll make a milestone forum when I'm at it! That one is open for anyone who wants to join. Anyone!

Still, most of us spend more time with these forums than playing the games.

So did EOJ become Icycalm or what, point one finger at someone else and you point three at yourself? Anyway, what difference does it make, I love 'em both!

Who is 'EOJ'? It's not famous. Actually, I think it used to be the editor of that GameGo! venture?

Best way to keep up to date on Cave's games is to read Arcadia & Famitsu, watch You Tube, visit TGS, JAMMA & AOU Shows and frequent Japanese arcades. Sorted.

The subject matter is just tiresome speculation and discussion from people that know a bit about only a very small aspect of Japanese arcade action gaming and very little else.

Some of my footage of Cave's games from TGS '10 here:

Even with an entire discussion bemoaning the faults of a completely different individual, you somehow always manage to steal the limelight.

Magic.

Basically, if you don't live in Japan, you don't know JAC?

Sounds like a good thing.
