Someone called Rahxehphon more mature because Shinji whines too much. I'm sorry, but this is just wholly wrong. The issues and themes defined in Eva are much more developed overall. Also, the maturity of the Shinji's character is much higher than Ayato's because of how well-defined it is compared to the latter. By the end of the show, I still could not completely define Ayato's character (meaning if given an example situation, I could not predict how he would act) like I was able to define just about ALL of Eva's characters. And Ayato is the main character, for God's sake ":^)"
Also, Eva is not overrated at all. Some just don't wanna use their brains and so they choose to not like it. I'm serious, I may sound like a bastard, but it seriously escapes my mind how someone can choose to not like a show so unbelievably well made. True, it has its weak points, but so does every other show, but Eva's strong points overweigh its bad points so much that the bad points can be almost completely forgiven.
And yes, I am an Eva fan, but I'm not being biased. The show is doing the talking, not me.
Sorry for bringing this thread back from the dead, but I just finished watching it. I have mixed feelings about the series. It is definately no eva though. I actually didn't like Rahxephon at all until episode 19 -- Blue Friend. It tries so hard to be like eva, but it just wasn't compelling. I didn't care about the characters, the mysteries or what happened. I think it also tried to do too much. There were too many subplots, characters, and relationships. That left things undeveloped. Also, the battles were pointless.
Anyway, episode 19 was great and I enjoyed the ending a lot too. So my take on the series improved after the last 7 episodes. I still like Eva much better.
