Richie, you make the mistake of assuming we have all accepted DLC as the replacement for physical media. In five years when my PS3 or 360 crashes and on-line connectivity for that system is no longer supported, I'm screwed. Give me everything I could possibly want on the disc so I don't have to worry about how long company X cares to support their customers.

Re: Street fighter x Tekken
Online vs play is the main reason to play SFIV isn't it? If you lose the DLC you lose the ability to play vs online as well.
SFIV was disappointing to me. For some reason I felt like the supers were over powering and forever getting used. Some supers would take so much energy from you, more than 50% in some cases. If you timed it wrong you were heavily penalized as well. So the whole vs thing became a hit and miss thing. For me it was more miss than hit. I think there were a lack of characters and backgrounds as well. My memory isn't as good as it once was, but basically the original game should have had more. Putting these little extras out at MSRP is asking to lower the standards of everything else in the industry. Gran turismo 6 will be a full MSRP game with 15 more cars and 3 extra tracks for example and thats it. By supporting this trend, your not doing yourselves any favours irregardless of your personal preferences. I have no problem putting the game on disc for £15/$25, but for $60
And as for SFIV, who plays that now? The new one has made online play for the old one obsolete. I'm sure all those who couldn't afford to upgrade are kinda wondering where everyone is.

Re: Street fighter x Tekken
The nickel and dime methodology only sounds good on paper because companies realize that people will cherry pick their DLC. The solution seems to be "make the DLC stupidly expensive." After you customize the game to have just what you want, you'd probably be paying more than $60, and it's always better to pay less and get the whole enchilada. Furthermore, SSF4 cost $40 at release and is $30 now at Amazon. If you decide you don't want to play it anymore, you could easily sell it for $15 too. Amazing.

And don't say that games don't stay competitive for that long. Look at MvsC2. Even before the recent DLC version, it had been in major tournament play for 8 years. Will Sony/Microsoft support their respective online services for 8 years? Not a chance.

You have nooooooooooooooooooo idea how SFIV plays at a high level if you were 'missing' your supers and ultras.neorichieb1971 wrote:SFIV was disappointing to me. SSFIV was priced at $40 new. It has tons of new stuff and is basically a new game in terms of balance. Hardly going to break anyone's bank, well worth it.neorichieb1971 wrote:And as for SFIV, who plays that now? The new one has made online play for the old one obsolete. This is just how fighting games work because they're so technical and fall apart with imbalance. It's either updates or one game with five years of play testing or a bunch of broken games with no lasting appeal.People who love playing fighting games shouldn't have to pay for 3 or 4 games that are almost identical in every sense bar a title name.

Because, if so, I fail to see why you're even having this argument.
It's a bit like trying to claim that Cave should release all their new games as DLC for an existing one - Ketsui, say - because they're just new visuals and gameplay systems on an existing engine.
In other words, wrong.

Silly spaceship games? Ooooerrrr.. Dangerous territory there boy.. I must admit Cave should bring out a cartridge based system.. Essentially they are duplicating data over their PCB's and most of the routines in the 360 versions are probably the same used again and again. I don't know why 360 Cave games are on a disc at all, apart from fanboys screaming out for $60 discs. Has anyone measured the data size of a Cave 360 game?
Anyway back on topic..
This SF X tekken marlarkey looks excellent, far and beyond that of the SSFIV

Re: Street fighter x Tekken
I dunno about this one. A full on Namco x Capcom fighter would be better.
That would leave the door open for Plasma Sword and Soul Calibur. From Time Crisis 4, I wouldn't mind seeing Jack Mathers and Wild Dog (let him keep the 357 and the gravity gun, the GG could make a nice fireball reflector) as playable fighters. Hell, even Wild Fang- what better way to punish a FB/DP trap shotokaner than kicking a 2 ton crate his way?
The one thing I don't dig in SFIV is the Ultra. You're about to KO your opponent only to suddenly eat an Ultra Combo, leaving you KOed instead. You got robbed. UCs should not have been made so strong. At least Ultras are crushable (i.e. Zangief can crush Balrog's Ultra with a Lariat).
Giving Jack the self destruct move shown being used by the Jack-4 squad in Tekken 5's intro would be cool. Sure, the blast range would have to be limited. This could be treated similar to Yoshimitsu's seppuku- which does light damage to Yoshimitsu and heavy damage to the opponent if it hits, but takes half of Yoshimitsu's life should it miss.

I almost drooled a small pool of spit on the floor when i saw Kazuya on the same screen as Ryu two of my fav chars from each series toghether
My only concern at the moment is projectiles.......almost all SF chars have them yet the only Tekken char I can think of that had a projectile was Ogre and even that was with limited range, on another note im peed off as we keep getting these semi 3d/2d games I really miss the good old days of 2D fighters, games like Blazblue or Sengoku Basara X are the only ones that I can think of that have come out fairly recently.

Yeah, no matter how much the manufacturers try to reassure us, we all know that in 5-10 year time, all the current downloadable stuff on PS3/360 won't be playable. How many original Xbox Live downloadable games are playable today? A lot of folks who replay their games don't like having a countdown timer on their games. If anyone tried to keep me from playing my old PSX/PS2/GBA games, I'd rip their balls.

I buy the PCB's from time to time.. Costing up to 10x the 360 $60 asking price. Actually I think the kit of Galuda 2 is my most expensive purchase, or perhaps mushi. I don't own a 360 and I'm not likely to buy one for shooters when I have 4 cabinets at home. I would rather spend $600 on a game I will play a lot, rather than pay 4 x $60 for a few games i'd sit on for 2 years and never play.BIL wrote:I like hard copies of purchased shooters that'll be around and playable in a decade's time, no questions asked. I am convinced the PS4 will be cell driven, therefore anything made for PS3 will be B/C. Can't say that for 360 though. The problem with online isn't just technology, its trends. Admit it, your just as likely to move onto the next wave of games as the next person. More than likely, Capcom will split people up by creating all these spin off / crossover games.Yeah, no matter how much the manufacturers try to reassure us, we all know that in 5-10 year time, all the current downloadable stuff on PS3/360 won't be playable. I'm not mad on fighting games. But out of all these Capcom vs games i'd likely buy one or two of them. I prefer the zany ones over the serious ones. I preferred the Zero/alphas over the 2's. I preferred the Xmen vs and Marvel vs over the 3's.

IIRC, Mushi was ~800 megs. I have not installed Ketsui, DS or Espy 2, but I can't imagine them being much larger. Not by Cave, but RFA is ~400 megs.neorichieb1971 wrote:Silly spaceship games?Essentially they are duplicating data over their PCB's and most of the routines in the 360 versions are probably the same used again and again. Blah...to street fighter x tekken.

Would you be okay with paying 4 x $20 instead? Again, if you consider the ports disposable entertainment, that's your problem. Don't buy them. Those of us planning on playing these games long-term don't care, and luckily Cave and the other 360 STG publishers don't seem to either.neorichieb1971 wrote:I buy the PCB's from time to time.. Two totally new names but their popularity hasn't exactly ignited the 2D market although I like both games. The 2 Melty Blood releases and KOF revamps (98, 02) are fighting goodness but released on the aging PS2 (which I don't mind). KOF XII PS3/XBOX 360? Now, SF vs Tekken, nice thought but they are apples and oranges I don't see how its going to work...maybe Capcom can pull it off. Tekken doesn't have projectiles (bosses don't count) so your going to make a fighting game and add an entire roster of non projectile characters? Hows it going to work? Sure the ComicCon vid looked sexy but I can't see it working for 20 or so extra fighters. Sure Balrog (Mike Tyson) and El Stupido don't have projectiles....ah I dunno, maybe it'll gel somehow.
