It's not like this music isn't listened to in a home environment too though.
I go out to clubs rarely, so most of this is in the house. However, until my kid goes to college, I don't see myself ever being able to "enjoy" sound outside of the headphones. My wife can hear a pin drop as well, so I'll need to wait until she hits the road (or I own a studio). So, I just buy WAV in the hopes that one day it'll pay off. AFAIK, nobody sells 24/96 digital music. At least not what I'm playing.

Not exactly the same thing...

If you want to make a comparison with videogames, than that would mean you want top quality gaming in your livingroom (a console), and you'd settle for shittier quality on the road (a portable).

Compare this with music and you'd want the best possible sound at home (vinyl) and settle for shittier quality on the road (mp3/wave).

This is not the case. Both for in house and outdoors use we have settled for shittier quality.
Apparently not as many people here claim to be vinyl heads. But, my point being, the argument is the same. We have settled for shittier quality for video as well. There's the argument of older games (being re-released still) filtered and interlaced to hell. As per before, we've had this debate in the main forum forever. Nobody has ever disagreed that for 15khz 2D games (which make up the majority of the ones this whole interweb site is about), the best quality is RGB (extra points for arcade monitor over consumer television). Only a handful of people have this setup though. Everyone else has settled for shittier quality.

We can 1-up that and talk about people using S-Video in general for ages in North America, and how HD LCDs are just now catching up to CRTs in clarity (resolution set aside). It's the same song & dance. Neither offered superior quality but they are what the masses use/used.

However, everyone seems to either ignore what I write, or selectively not see it. DJs are switching away from vinyl for a very, very simple reason: their tunes aren't available on the format now, and that's where I am. Not only are a lot of my tunes not available on vinyl, they're not available on CD either (and often only available on one digital shop [fuck you, Beatport]). It is irony at it's best, as 10 years ago you could only get proper EDM on vinyl and not CD. If you missed the release, you were totally fucked until you could find it in a used shop b/c nobody did online sales and very rarely reprints.

EDIT: For my DJ tracks, not a single one has an analogue instrument in it.

Ah, the PCE cover is little bit toned down than the later games :)

Awesome - the map is the lovely part. Most of mine are flea market (or here in the UK 'car boot sale') bargains. I've got a few turntables, some old FM radios, and my pride and joy, an old 1950 cigarette vending machine.

offer a little more leeway for using a shoddy set-up (DJing of an old '78 for example, doesn't require the cutting edge).
I mix stuff in the 2-3 minute zone. If you have a 6 minute track, that leaves little time to cock around. So, in that case, digital saves my ass... in fact, w/o a third deck I'd say even the best DJ would have issues doing the same mix as you have to pull the record out and slap it on.
I see. Makes total sense. Of course, despite my 'who gives a shit?' argument with regard to which platform/format is best, there's clearly times when either digital or otherwise is clearly the best choice.

However, if there's ever evidence to support the case that technology in DJing doesn't mean shit, go see Shitmat - he does something magical with bodged tech, intentionally untimely mixes, bad scratches, out of time beats, terrible pitch control and a lot of shouting (like an anarchic DJ Yoda really, but far better) and he still does an amazing job of getting the crowd dancing. My mate saw him play with a cardboard box on stage sporting a marker-penned Apple logo. He pretended to use it a lot, before smashing the box to shit to reveal a casette player, and him 'mixing' by using start, stop and fast forward. He's always great live.

Now you're getting into defining "what is art" and even stickier subjects. As pointed out on a DJ forum I go to, 90% of the people in the crowd wouldn't give a fuck if you went up there w/ an iPod and hit shuffle. But, I'm one of those guys that has to know what's going on under the sheets.

I've seen him a couple of times and he's as erratic and unpredictable as his mixes. Preceding his awful showing at Bangface last year, he was so shit-faced that he actually had the audacity to say "Sorry guys, I'm fucked on drugs but so are you lot so it doesn't matter." He kind of missed the point that we'd paid through the nose for him to perform while we got fucked. I can't deny the dude's got a great imagination though.

I bought a bunch of figures on this last trip to Japan, so here are a few of them. I posted these on the Animenation forum. You can click the images for a larger version.

Etna, the DFC goddess (or demoness, actually)!

Arche and Mint from Tales of Phantasia, beautiful Kotobukiya figures.

After playing it off and on for the PC (I lost the files), I've finally gotten my hands on my favorite PS1 racing game of all time! ROLLCAGE! (Doesn't really qualify as awesome, but I hold this game dear to my heart!).

There's "Rollcage: Stage II" with bonus OST worth getting also. It got a proper Stateside release as well.

For some reason the PC release of Rollcage Stage 2 went by the name of Death Track Racing in the US though. Superfluous name changes were all the rage back then, I guess.

I remember playing Rollcage all the time back on my Rive 128-equipped PC. It was one of those games you'd use to show off your fancy 3D accelerator card back in the day, if I recall correctly (that and Moto Racer.) Ran at a blazing-fast framerate with really nice textures, especially once I upgraded to a GeForce 256.

I've played Rollcage 2 a fair amount but didn't end up liking it overall. RC1 has a simplicity and streamlined feel that I think was lost when they made RC2. They changed the physics from RC1, and you don't get the same sense of speed when you've blazing through a track. The only aspect of RC2 I like over RC1 is the multiplayer deathmatch. RC2 has more weapons, and diverse environments to play in.

To Vexorg: I will probably be getting the PC version of RC1 in the near future. Nothing compares to playing it on the PC. Graphically, it looks 10 times as good over its PS1 counterpart, with more options for weather, playing over LAN etc.

Excellent purchase, Necronopticous. One of my favorite games on the SNES, I still listen to the soundtrack today. Great since of humor too, which is all too rare in videogames. And you get to beat hippies with a baseball bat!

Just bought Dragon Quest IX myself.
