You could sort of justify SF4's DLC if you bought the Collectors Edition and used the initial code. The individual packs were released well before the compilation and the difference in cost was only a few bucks.

But for SSF4, there are so many packs and their release date is scattered so far back with the collection at the end. With the total cost, the need to wait anyway for the last costumes released, and the short delay to the combined pack, it seems like everyone ought to just wait until July to buy the combined pack if they want the new alternate costumes.

If SF4 costumes were successful, MVC3 ought to have costumes as well. And like the Marvel interview released today said in response to a question about DLC characters, they haven't seen any indication that there's interest in downloadable characters. That's an honest and refreshing answer, although costumes are a different matter.

There will be tons of costumes for download. A lot of these characters change get up every decade or so. Storm with a mohawk?

The more I think about it, the more I want to see Ruby Heart make a comeback in this game. She's one of my favorite MVC characters to play as, and if she doesn't come back in this game she could be gone forever.

Characters officially announced so far:

Marvel characters
Captain America (Classic attire)
Deadpool (Classic attire)
Doctor Doom (Classic attire)
Hulk (Classic Savage appearance)
Iron Man (Extremis armor)
Super-Skrull
Thor (Asgard armor)
Wolverine (Astonishing X-Men attire)

Capcom characters
Amaterasu
Chris Redfield (Resident Evil 5 attire)
Chun-Li (Street Fighter IV attire)
Dante (Devil May Cry 3 appearance)
Felicia
Morrigan Aensland
Ryu (Street Fighter IV attire)
Trish (Devil May Cry appearance)

Viewtiful Joe is pretty much revealed from the silhouettes, and I think we can count Spider-Man in. That leaves 6 slots from each side if the game ends up with 30 characters like Capcom said.

"only" 30? :/
Are they getting lazy now because they can't recycle their old sprites?
Didn't some people say it's way easier to animate characters in 3D compared to drawing every frame by hand?
And MvC2 had like what, 50 characters?

They have said there will be a minimum of 30. I think we could get another 4 on top of that on release. They have also mentioned they want there to be a story line with new characters added. I can see there being a lot of add on packs with extra characters in. The extra costumes have proven to be quite a big money spinner for SFIV so I bet the adition of characters would do a lot better.

Minimum 30 eh? That's a little better. Hopefully they bump the max total up to close to 45 or such. They have the catalog to do so so why the hell not. Good to know Spider-Man will be in the mix, leaving him out would be outrageous.

In the leaked art of Thor, I'm 99% sure you can see Akuma's silhouette in the background. Right next to his raised arm.

Most of which were directly recycled from older games. In any event, one can hope that a smaller roster leads to better balancing...
They have also mentioned they want there to be a story line with new characters added.
This part actually worries me a bit...while a cheesy plot obviously won't ruin a good fighter, I do think that wacko crossovers like this one do best with minimal/no plot. Remember when Namco tried to "legitimately" work Link, Heihachi and Spawn (among others) into the Soul Calibur story? I hope I wasn't the only one who cringed mightily when I happened upon those...
In the leaked art of Thor, I'm 99% sure you can see Akuma's silhouette in the background.
I really hope it isn't him...Akuma is one of those characters who appears in EVERYthing but adds little to anything (since Ryu is almost always already there anyway), and frankly by now I'm kinda sick of him.

Ignore me, I'm a spaz: I looked again and I realised it was Cap. Mistook his headwing for Akuma's topknot.

For those of you who did not attend / watch the stream for Evolution 2k10 this year, they ran a mini tournament with the latest MvsC3 build. Quite a treat to see what some top MvsC2 players could do with MvsC3 given a bit of time to play with it:

EVO 2010, Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Exhibition (part 1 of 3)
EVO 2010, Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Exhibition (part 2 of 3)
EVO 2010, Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Exhibition (part 3 of 3)

I can't believe you guys haven't mentioned Psylocke yet! Gotta have Psylocke! Also of course I have to put in another vote for Arthur. His supers should be the magic attacks from Super GnG. Rockin'. And 1984 mohawk Storm would be an awesome alternate costume. Roll should be replaced with SonSon too.

I'd be complete happiness if we could get Gene, X, and pretty much any Ryuu from BoF series. Arthur is not a bad idea at all. It'd add another small character and make the roster more dynamic. Imagine a team of Amaterasu, Viewtiful Joe and Arthur. Half the normal fireballs would fly over their heads .

Sprites are much harder.
More to the point though, why add 50 characters when you can add 30 and progressive release the rest as DLC?
They're not even held back by an arcade release this time. I expect good things!

I hate to break the news guys...but apparently gene (godhand) is confirmed to NOT, be in the game.

would be nice to have some rival schools. and the thought of rolento in a game like this...makes me excited. I'd really like to see him lynch deadpool for some reason.

Strider Hiryu and maybe Strider Hien are a must, can't believe you guys didn't mention them.

Also Sentinel, because we all lol at the brokenness of Doom/Strider/Sentinel.

The game is half a year away from release and he's requested a lot on the Capcom side. All we can do is keep the good fight and hope that they change their mind. Gene not in now doesn't mean he won't be in at release.

They already have the wolf dude, if they include Gene it'd be like Capcom admitting how badly they fucked up closing Clover. Which would be cool.

How badly did they fuck up? Those games sold like dogshit. Amaterasu is in the game because they plan on making more Okami games.

They sold the studio that was originally responsible for Okami.

Capcom still has the rights to all those characters, doesn't matter if they dissolved Clover or not.

Hopefully 'Wolf dude' means Talbain, coz Amaterasu is a she. Or maybe gods aren't too gender specific. :?

Capcom wasn't going to go bankrupt. They should have ate the losses (or make some stupid bug fighting horse racing card game to recoup) if it meant putting out some of the best games ever. Now Capcom as a whole is dogshit, and as a game player and not a stockholder I find that worse.

I vaguely remember reading somewhere that Ammy was intended to be gender-neutral, but don't quote me on that. Off to the side, it would definitely be nice to see some non-fan-servicey Darkstalkers characters make guest appearances more frequently (Jedah seriously deserves better than Capcom Fighting Evolution).

Go play some Wii Barbie game if you're such a fan of cost effectiveness over quality. You probably won't because you're full of shit, but hey nice internet zing.

No, I was a fan of Clover's games as well (though I wouldn't consider any of them among the "best games ever"). I just don't think the world revolves around me and that companies should cater to my whims.

Pretty much everyone cool thinks Clover was cool not just me. Honestly they could have made it work just with better advertising. For instance with Godhand instead of filler text like "nonstop thrilling action" and a one-liner like they probably did they could have described the fighting system and how it blows away button mashers like Dynasty Warriors while packaging the game like a fine Swiss chocolate. That would prevent stupid IGN reviewers who care more about the deadline from putting out unchallenged disinformation at least.
