World Cup 2010

During any of those predictions, did the octopus choose the box NOT closest to itself at the moment?

I was thinking about that too when I saw the video. I think Uruguay will win tonight, they want it more.Ruldra wrote:During any of those predictions, did the octopus choose the box NOT closest to itself at the moment?

It sat on the German box for a while until it switched to Spain.Ruldra wrote:During any of those predictions, did the octopus choose the box NOT closest to itself at the moment?
Anyway, that damn thing was finally wrong, Germany beat Uruguay. Great game, but Suarez need to get the fuck out of Africa.

Why? It had predicted Germany to win.antron wrote:Anyway, that damn thing was finally wrong, Germany beat Uruguay.

Ha ha, ain't that the truth. I thought it was probably ruining his concentration until he let rip with one of the best out-of-nowhere volleys I've seen in the tournament. Had it gone in the net it would have been the best two-fingers gesture at a crowd ever.antron wrote:Great game, but Suarez need to get the fuck out of Africa.

Dirty football by the Dutch today.
EDIT: INIESTAAAAAA! Spain thoroughly deserved that, especially given the Dutch tactics.

Re: World Cup 2010
Ugly game, I'm glad Spain scored before the penaltys and won, very deserved
Best World Cup 2010 player probably Diego Forlan from Uruguay, and goalkeeper Ike Casillas from Spain...

Re: World Cup 2010
Yeah, had they won at penalties, that would've left a very sour aftertaste. Very happy Spain scored that goal. Great job FC Barc... erm, Spain, you are truly the best team in the world today!Icarus wrote:Dirty football by the Dutch today.

I had the opposite take. I thought Spain went way too far in crying and taking dives. I'd not seen either side play before today but wow, I pretty much despised Spain by the end.
The only thing worse than a side that dives at every touch is a referee that thinks he is the game. Tonight we had both.
Maybe the whole tournament had just soured me to the game by the end. Perhaps in 4 years FIFA can put a worthy product on the field.

And the octopus gets it right again lol. Congrats to Spain.
Re: World Cup 2010
This was the first commentary I saw on it.
Lol, chest kicks
Also good one on that octopus. (You gotta wonder what's going on - either a very odd string of coincidences, or perhaps somebody has rigged the games and spiked the bait..?)

Re: World Cup 2010
it is now.

'Watched' the final in Legends Roppongi and it was heaving I tell thee. The only thing orange I had was a very sad games related T-shirt (Ridge Racer, which was quite apt in a Rotterdam Nation way). It was coupled with the flag of England as a gesture to the inventors though.
South Africa-shittest World Cup in my lifetime. The end.
Now it's all over, post your pics of you supporting your country out and about with your friends, where ever you were.
Cheers.

Re: World Cup 2010
That game could have gone either way esspecially with the amount of chances Rubben had to clinch it for Holland. Well done to Spain now World Champions.

Yup that chest kick was quite Savage. Absolutely nowhere near the ball. I guess he just wanted to see how many ribs he could break.
& the classic thing was that the guy was totally unapologetic, scowling at his mixed martial arts opponent after the kick.

Re: World Cup 2010
It was great World Cup, I loved every minute of it, even the dull games.
Vamos España!
I was backing Spain to win, they totally deserved it too. It was one of the most tense nil-nil finals I've seen and I was dying for someone to plant a ball in the net. Well done to Iniesta's (legitimate goal), boo to the aggressive Dutch side for complaining about everything including the referee (who had a tough match.)
Here's a thought, if the referee had been all seeing and done his job as efficiently as the Dutch seem to have wanted, wouldn't they have been playing with 9 men after 45 minutes?
Anyway, London was insane last night. Looked like a Spanish revolution in Piccadilly Circus and Trafalgar Square. Take a look at this:

Re: World Cup 2010
I too watched pretty much all the matches. The best team won, no doubt. Did you see how Casillas robbed Robben(!) twice on breakaways?
Tough game for the Dutch, with a lousy 69% pass completion. They had to tackle much because Spain wouldn't let them control the ball at all, as they always do. After a possession of 2-3 minutes, it gets quite frustrating and they went for intense tackling / plexus kicking.
About the referee... I think considering the nature of the game (physical), the guy did an outstanding job. Not one of the yellow cards called was for nothing; it was pretty clear from all the replays we had of all the plays. The Dutch fans can't say otherwise. When the ref watches the game again at home, I'm sure he'll be content with himself. Well, apart maybe from De Jong, who deserved a red for the high kick, and Robben, who should have gotten a second yellow (and the boot) for an obvious, textbook delay of game.
Of course there's also the fact that there should have been a corner kick for the dutch before Iniesta's goal, but the ref couldn't see it, precisely because a few orange shirts were swarming around the ref to argue about something on the play just before. Had they not been interfering with the ref's job, the latter could have seen the ball hit a Spanish shoulder before going out.
I don't know why they won't allow the video review of some key plays. I mean, they could give 2 video reviews per team per game or something. Not too much so people wouldn't abuse it or anything. I'm sure Lampard, for one, wouldn't be against this...

Re: World Cup 2010
That essentially would give each team two time outs, and they would be used. Soccer is meant to be two 45 minute halves of near nonstop play.KindGrind wrote: I don't know why they won't allow the video review of some key plays. Half of Spain is living in London at the moment, as Inti told me about 6 months ago. Its true. If you go down the West End and keep your ears open, all you can hear is Spanish being spoken. I figured the mass invasion was because Spain's economy is in an even worse state than ours, but it makes me laugh that half World has rushed to the UK for its benefits system and are now suffering as much as the indigenous population

What´s that I heard about Dutch players......?

Look, Arjen van Robben even has his own video game.
Second place. If I was the trainer we would´ve beaten spain.
