Yeah, I voted England. Even though we're going to lose dismally... again.

I voted Spain. Brazil are favorites but I dont think they will go all the way. Germany as outsiders. They have a really strong team and cleaned house in the qualifiers.

I voted for Holland because I love dutch football, but to be honest I believe that either Argentina or Brazil will claim the title. Europe and South America have switched the trophy back and forth since 1970, so statistically it will be a South American team this year.
Not much to say about it, the team just wasn't good enough. Oh, well. Being from southern Sweden I always cheer for you guys when the swedish team is not involved. What the heck are your hockey team doing btw? You're supposed to suck!1up wrote:oh? sweden didn't make it this yearDragoforce wrote:![]()

I reckon Brazil have got the best squad this time around. So long as it's not England... John Terry will have lifted more than enough trophies this year
and my bitterness far exceeds my patriotism

I think it'll be Spain's year - though depends on their injuries.

Also, voted Brazil. Cliché, but I feel good about this time around.

Climate plays a big role in World cups.
England = Quarters
Spain, Argentina, Brazil, Germany = Semis
Spain, Brazil - Finalists (unless they meet beforehand).

I think the US will shock a few teams, i am going to drop a fair bit of cash on them beating England for a start.Even us Americans know our team isn't even going to breathe on the Cup.
Physically a very fit team with a lot of their players playing their trade in Europe, i don't think they are the mugs the English press have them out to be (typical wanky English press arrogance, what a non-shock!). They proved in the Confederate Cup that they can compete - inflicting on Spain a rare defeat, giving Italy a bit of a scare before going down, stuffed "handy" Egypt, and were so close to taking Brazil's scalp in the final after going 2:0 up. All done in south Africa in the exact time frame of the world cup meaning they can perform in that climate.
For the game v.s. England, they are exactly the type of team i hate watching England play - a lot of players with a point to proove and high levels of fitness. I can see this being the same sort of game as when the US twatted Portugal in 2002. As for England - we have the players, but i just don't see the team gel though Capello is a cut above recent managers, so we shall see.

Re: World Cup 2010
Yeah, USA is an underrated team, plus their group is not very tough, so I think they stand a pretty good chance to reach the knockout stage.
I always support my homecountries USA and Germany during the WC, but USA is way more fun to root for, as they don't have anything to loose.

Re: World Cup 2010
It would be god damn epic if Argentina won. Diego Maradona already said that if its gods will, they will win the world cup. Lionell Messi is unstoppable. If they win, there will be an update to Fifa WC 2010 that makes him the Bo Jackson of Fifa gamesDragoforce wrote:I voted for Holland because I love dutch football, but to be honest I believe that either Argentina or Brazil will claim the title. As for who ever wins im not not really bothered aslong as its not Argentina (just because of the old footy rivalries between england and all that)

Re: World Cup 2010
About a month away, I am only now getting excited for this.
Being spoiled by some fantastic Champions League spectacle (damn you Inter!
) I am really hope this tournament will continue the trend and be just as exciting.
Of course I'll support The Netherlands, but don't see them reaching past the quarter finals.
As always we have some of the best individuals in the world, but as always I can't say I can see them being a good team. The team definitely won't be the sum of all parts.
As for the favourites, I'd like to say Argentina because of Messi, but they lack a good coach.
I REALLY hope it won't be France, since they shouldn't even be there.
Germany can never be counted out, but lack real quality atm, as does Italy.
Brazil will have to wait till the event comes to their home.
Looking with great interest to North Korea (maybe put in a a bet of 10 Euro or so as the odds would be incredibly against them, but they did manage to qualify).
But call me crazy I've voted on a total outsider: Slovenia.
Why? not a sum ofl parts, but they got a real "team".
And all more than decent players this could make the difference against the star/ego teams.
And though they kept Russia from this tournament, no one probably sees them as contenders.
I think this could be a real cup fighter.
Enough babbling: May the best playing team win!!

Wow, looking at the various teams I'd say that New Zealand could very well be the worst team to ever qualify for the world cup.

Re: World Cup 2010
USA has an appalling record of scoring in world cups. I think in the few tournaments they have been in, they maybe have scored 3 goals. I remember they got to the knock outs a few years back, on the strength of an Italian own goal.
They might be a tougher side to beat now, but seriously they lack the competition on a regular basis. Even the qualifiers, they usually have to beat a bunch of nobody's to get in the finals.
The problem with England as a team is that they play too damn slow and technical. You can tell when England are playing badly and boring, because there is usually one player for England outclassing all the rest. Remember a few World cups ago, England vs Brazil. I think in the 2nd half England were losing by a goal or two.. And they were kicking it around the half way line for 5 minutes.. Absolutely ridiculous. Thats not sport thats self defeat.

They got to the quarter finals in 2002 and lost to Germany who took it. I agree, they're underrated, but my whole joke was mainly pointing out the obvious: that we are the bastard step-child in the sport, no doubt. I mean, not one of our single matches in the US has broken out into an riot. What the fuck?CIT wrote:Yeah, USA is an underrated team, plus their group is not very tough, so I think they stand a pretty good chance to reach the knockout stage.

England.
We are the true winners by default everytime as we invented it surely? Thank you for embracing our culture. We hope you all enjoy World Cup 2010.
To lift the actual trophy, Argentina would be fantastic for all the magic they have given the game in my lifetime and so would France as an extra reward for what they did to those irlandais. I would be deeply mortified if Portugal won as they are greasy penises and I hate them all. Sorry, they're not even on the list so they don't feature anyway.
Good luck to USA, but it ain't never gonna happen old bean. It would be a bit like us beating you to a competition of whom could talk the loudest in public. Stick to roller skating and rounders with that one.
The weather suits and we have the African's support behind us and the best fans in the World so it all could go very swimmingly. We must remember Ruud Gullit also as he was the first one to teach us sexy football.
The countries that we don't pity as much are:
USA
Brazil
Netherlands
So games against these will be treated more as a jolly sporting affair as opposed to a war.
May the best team win.
Good luck!

2006 they only scored 2, but they were shit out of luck with that group. Italy, Czech rep, and Ghana? Ouch. Hugely credible draw against Italy there too.

Re: World Cup 2010
I'd like to see Italy play again as good as they did way back when... hey, one can still dream, amirite?
Anyways, this time around I really didn't follow who is on which team, who is dead, or who is bad at faking injuries. I know nothing, but I have a feeling it's south american time again, like others mentioned, my money is either on Argentinia or Brazil.
Then again, would be nice to see something unexpected happen.
