no, all that's needed is a ball transponder for the goal.
fouls are subjective, often even on replay. goals are mathematical facts.
didnt they have microchips inside the balls for the euro champs 2008? or did they only talk about it as an option? I cant remember. but if they had something like that, that clearly indicated if the ball has fully crossed the line or not, and set off flashing red lights on the goal like in hockey that would be the way to go.
@BIL - That comment almost made the whole thing worthwhile - almost.
As for the video ref debate, I don't think we need the game to stop while people play a clip over and over when debating fouls or borderline offside, but a camera at goal line to see if the ball is over the line would not disrupt play at all. Just someone in the ref's earpeice saying 'that was a goal - wake up man!' would be fine.

I used to be a FIFA certified referee, damn near every rule in the book is 100% subjective or situational. So yeah replays wouldn't be much help in a lot of situations. But when the linesmans blows it like on that England goal or the offside call on Argentina it'd be a no brainer call with replay. Especially with situations like the England goal, it'd be next to impossible for the linesman to be right there at the goalline, and at best he'd still be look on from 40 meters away.
Congratulations to the Germans. You were the better side and thank you for helping us give the World another fantastic Footballing spectacle with another classic clash of the Titans game between us.
This was one of the worst England squads in my lifetime and our 3 Lions pride was the only thing that got us as far as we got.
Good luck to Diego and Argentina and thank you all for enjoying our game of Football.
Don't be an armchair supporter, post your pics of supporting your country out and about, where ever you may be.
I was going to show pictures of my event but it was too depressing to take them. Roppongi + Shitload of Americans + really, really late in the morning = stuff picture books are made of. It's been years since I've left Roppongi when the sun came up, and now I know why. Any other part of town on heaps of chemicals at the same hour looks infinitesimally better.

Hopefully the man in charge is old and is about to die. Seriously we need a new age of pedigree at the top. Those men at the top have been there too long.
To me its just a giggle. The way it works right now a referee can control the outcome of the game 100%. All he has to say is "I didn't see it". Lack of replay evidence also allows the cheats to fall over every opportunity and cheat their way through the tournament. Its all very well looking back after the game but the score always stands so its a bit ridiculous.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.
Let's not forget the lack of officials & replays which not only allows, but encourages each player to be a complete vaj and go crumbinling to the ground at the slightest touch.

This is a good read and perfectly sums up my feelings on the tournament. And I should mention that I played the sport through the collegiate level, and I have traveled to attend World Cup games. So I'm a bit more than just the armchair fan that the author claims to be.
Breaking news: Dodonpachi Developer Cave Releases Hello Kitty Game
England played like amatuers out there on sunday, ive seen kids games that had more strategy and team play than the england squad did in that game, I mean the first goal from a german goal kick where the heck was the defence? it seemed to me like when we did get 1 back the team woke up and for the last 10 or so minutes towards the end of the first half we seemed to be doing really well.....alot of people will say disallowed goal made the difference i would say maybe or maybe not because the way they were playing I personally was surprised it was only 4 germany got....seriously get rid of capello and get someone english to lead the squad maybe thats the only thing missing and the key to getting the players to wake the heck up.

Where could I E-mail or mail to if I want to address my ideas and Opinions?
Its not just Capello thats the problem. Its the pre-selection of overpaid bandits that are always getting in the team.
Capello has said on Skysports today that the reason we lost so abysmaly was because the team was too tired. Well in that case then wasn't it his £6,000,000 decision to pick a team that wasn't tired? Instead we get the £6,000,000 worth of excuses. Personally I hold him accountable for any excuse he makes.
Rooney might be one of the best players in the world but if he runs like a shot duckling then there is no point taking him right? Barry was supposed to be our saviour, yet he ran 10mph slower than the Germans, as could be seen on the 3rd or 4th goal. In fact, as the goals started flying in on the German side the English players didn't hold their head in shame, they just pretended it was just another game of football.
Lampard stated on Skysports today that he has no intention of quitting international football. Although I regarded his efforts as some of the best chances we had in the last 2 weeks I think he over rates himself.
On the Kia cars bus the England team looked like they wanted to be somewhere else. Why can't an interview take place with an England team member where he's jumping for joy and can't wait to get out there on the pitch?
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.
If Capello wont resign then he MUST be sacked, even if it costs the FA £12m to get rid of him
Most of Englands WC 2010 squad should never play for for England again, we should put out a team of 16 and 17 year olds in the forthcoming Euro 2012 qualifiers. OK we probably wouldn't qualify but at least in 4 or 6 years time we might have something approaching a decent team
Looks like the winner of this tournament is going to come from either Brazil or Argentina
Let's just come out and say it: Soccer's fucking gay.
On that note, I'm going to support Japan tonight in some of the nastiest weather on the planet -- probably worse than that shit you have in Jolly Old England.
RegalSin wrote:New PowerPuff Girls. They all have evil pornstart eyelashes.
Hats off to Japan and their fans. They played an excellent game, and the fans at the venue I was at were still cheering them on as they left the field. A valiant effort.
I haven't watched many matches other than the two teams I support, but this one with Paraguay seemed to feature virtually no bullshit diving.
RegalSin wrote:New PowerPuff Girls. They all have evil pornstart eyelashes.
Indeed, it's great to see two teams go at it without all the diving and just stick to the game. I was watching the game while at work and before Komano's penalty attempt, I honestly didn't know who would end up going home. Shame either would have to go home eventually, but some coworkers were surprised at Japan's route to the knockout round, especially the free kick goals in their game against Denmark. Hopefully their effort was noticed by more people worldwide, I know I sure did.
They definitely brought it to all their opponents. The fans as well, were quite diehard. It's nice seeing loads of strangers have a reason to get together and have fun.
