Wow, it's like E-type but a hundred times worse.

Edit: No, it's the most awesome band ever. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKCdKFJmeHI

Finally got to see them live on Sunday. An absolutely awesome experience. Everything was so different to the albums, and so well taylored to a live setting, from the throbbing death-bass to the clanging of scrap metal. Even the calmer songs seemed to have been fed through a meat grinder. It made me realise how much I fucking hate going to gigs where they just play the album back to you. Case in point: Radiohead. I used to adore that band, until I saw the limp excuse for their live show back in 2003. I might have well have listened to their singles very loud while surrounded by middle class white twats. Rarrr rarrr rarrr.
lol on the Radiohead comment. So is xiu xiu British? Because if they're American, like I thought, that's quite a tour for an indie band.
Nah, they're American! Yeah, they did quite an extensive European tour this time. I always appreciate it when smaller bands do such tours.

Sorry if I offended anyone about the Radiohead comment. I just have very strong views on what it means to perform live, I guess. A lot of people I know hold the opposite viewpoint, that a band playing very similarly to what they've recorded on the album is preferable. I can see the rationale behind this, that it can evidence exemplary musicianship by correctly emulating what could be considered to be the definitive rendition of the performance. Personally, I hold improvisation and self reinvention to be much more desirable facets. This is basically why I stopped listening to 'safe' bands like Tool and Radiohead, and moved on to more interesting bands like Lightning Bolt and Deerhoof who often perform remarkably different versions of their songs live.

I also think it derives from my dislike of big gigs in cavernous halls with perfect sound. I've seen Deerhoof twice now, once in a sailing club bar and once in a small pub/social club, both times playing on battered (borrowed?) equipment and sounding completely different both times. Now that's what makes an exciting gig :D

its a compilation of songs from italian cop films....theres a couple goblin tracks on it from 'la via della droga' and 'squadra antigangster', but the rest are all new to me....excellent stuff, and gives me more composers to track down for more scores 8)

Henry Cow box set of last year is still probably the most amazing thing of late and proof that the albums a band puts out are sometimes only a very small part of a bands creative output and identity.

Aye, those Henry Cow remasters are fab. Miles away from so called progressive rock of the era, though.

If you like this euro acid rock vibe in film scores, check out La Planète sauvage (Fantastic Planet) and Les Maîtres du temps (Time Masters). The animation leaves a lot to be desired, but the music should be up your alley.

The remasters are good, but I meant the box set that is like 10 discs of unreleased material. I'm normally not keen for that sort of thing, as it's often just a million alternate takes at dismal sound quality, but in this case it's actually pretty stunning. I think it could be thinned down a bit (I'll probably never listen to the double disc improv set again, and I don't know if I need both 'Concerts' and the other Concert included in this set, but much else is phenomenal and noteworthy.

SPC ECO - 3-D

and about that Henry Cow box set.... holy shit it's only $20! I may have to pick this up. I've heard In Praise of Learning, Leg End, and Unrest and they're all really good albums. I haven't heard anything else that's like it while being able to hold my interest for as long as Henry Cow does.

I hadn't meant to make this a major issue (I was more excited about the Life on Earth soundtrack), but no, it isn't $20 (at least not legitimately...as far as I know.) This is what I'm talking about:

Yeah, you're right... did too quick of an amazon search. Turns out it was the paperback about the box set. Stupid mistake.

Pet Sounds. Amazing stuff. For some reason I never thought of the Beach Boys as being very serious music (probably because of their Christmas songs that you constantly hear around that time of year), and what a mistake that was.

Cart or emulation? Original release has a completely different (good) soundtrack.

Gorement - The Ending Quest
Immolation - Dawn of Possession
Adramelch - Irae Melanox -- Castlevania-y melodies abound.
Slayer - Show No Mercy
Coroner - Punishment for Decadence -- always prefer Mental Vortex, but warming up to this.
The Zombies - Zombie Heaven
