Even they are fascinated by all the weird Japanese games and such under GP's command...and are apparently big fans of casual references to anal intercourse ("teach us your ways, all-knowing one, so as to improve our probing techniques!").

Only 2 kinds of people in the world: those who are big fans of casual references to anal intercourse, and those who haven't heard that right euphemism yet.

England vs. U.S.A.:

Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan. Late evening. A long way to wait until the kick-off at 03:30 the next day but never too early to start getting aggressive:

Image

A few cans, some arcading and a 1 credit clear of Kets as a gesture to waste some time:

Image

Pile in to a game bar for some all-you-can-drink booze and to watch the Argentina game:

Image

Although not the best game bar in Tokyo (A Button is by a country mile and we've cained them all), it's VERY cheap and probably one of the best places to actually play. Too bright though:

Next stop Roppongi. A pub/bar crawl until reaching the final viewing spot of Legends. Lots of English out in force as to be expected and a surprising amount of North Americans making the effort. No photos as totally wankered at this point.

A good start by The England although spoilt by their freak goal. Its turned out that most of the other top sides have made a slow start also which has put things in to perspective. Exact same thing all over again tomorrow night!

Come on Ingerlund!

I hope everyone is enjoying their World Cup 2010 thus far.

Don't be an armchair supporter, post your pics of supporting your country out and about, where ever you may be.

Cheers.

N.B. This is pointing. The end.

I was too fucked to be bothered to take pictures at my venue. I only had one other Yank sitting with me who I had just met, actually (but I'm mates w/ his English brother). I knew a fair amount of the fans on the English side. Can't say they were happy with the results. Good fun, but getting home by bicycle was not easy.

Big props to Mexico for winning the match against France. That was really unexpected.

Not really with how crappy France has played for about the past 6 years. I'd have bet large amounts of money on Mexico winning.

edit: retard moment, past 4 years. See ya Domenech!

My second team of Argentina are the standout side with Germany and Netherlands (although showing surprisingly dirty play) looking alright. Brazil are disappointing and Uruguay look sharp.

Anyone BUT Brazil and a team that has one it before (Argentina would be nice) are my only hopes if England can't do it. Want to retain the exclusivity of the Champion Countries as much as possible with that one.

Yep, Argentina look very, very dangerous indeed!

My feeling is Germany won't perform nearly as impressively against Serbia. Germany traditionally struggles against Balkan teams, who are tactically strong and familiar with the German players from the Bundesliga.

USA vs. Slovenia could get close, England however should have no problems against Algeria.

You say that like it's a given. As we've seen, England are anything but decent in big tournaments.

Could be the year of the underdog?

Either the best teams have gotten worse or the weaker teams have gotten stronger. Statistically I think there is less than 4 games with 2 or more goals between the two teams.

We had a similar discussion at work on that. I have a feeling certain teams will advance/be eliminated that we will not expect.

Edit: And as soon as I finished posting that, Slovenia pulled the trigger first against USA.

Any way to stream this shit? My brain surgeon wife is asleep in the living room. I left a bar at half time to watch the game in the comfort of my home. Boy am I a genius.

EDIT :Found one. Wow -- 2-2
God Bless America.... leaders of the world.

EDIT: Is it me or are these official complete shit? I'll admit, I don't watch the game that much. Educate me.

Most of the time I find English commentators awful, but they made a good point. 14 yellow cards in 2 games today? Jesus. Seems a little scrappy for the game. From the sounds of it the officiating seems to be quite poorly rated for this game. Bummer.

I don't think we have any Serbs here, but congrats to them.

Wow, the US v Slovenia match was really good to watch, especially with how boring the rest of this World Cup has been...

Also, what was with the ref?

Cool, I'm not stupid. Drunk, yes. But not totally stupid.
That one yellow card was bullshit as well. Last I checked getting the shit smacked out of your face /w the ball wasn't a yellow-cardable offense.

Nothing wrong w/ embracing technology (or adding officials). I guess my problem was that it didn't look like he was in a place he could give a yellow card from. Yet, did. The robbed goal was the icing on the cake though. Maybe he just doesn't like America. Most people don't.

I don't think I have it in my to stay up and watch England. Would be nice to see them lose which would help the US advance. There's been plenty of hear break so far. Feel bad for UK fans in Asia. 2 games starting at 3:30 AM. Yikes.

England are too pedestrian and rely on good passing. Which is quite bad because we ain't good at running and we ain't good at passing either. Quite a few of our players seem to fall all over the place when they get the ball.

Capello, sort it out... Get our guys running and moving, its not the players or formation thats wrong, its the urgency to win. In the last 25% of the field England look lost and the players are all too static.. They need to be running to where the pass is going, not waiting for the ball in the box like humpty dumpty. Players need to move forward uniform. I don't know why Rooney is coming back to the half way line and passing forward to people like Carragher . I ain't no manager, but it seems recently the TV celebs are urging changes. We have 1 goal in this tournament so far, thats only 1 more goal than that of the team at the bottom of the table. Shame on England, SHAME!

If England are going to get to the semi finals they will need more than 1 goal in this tournament.

rumour is that ref is out for the rest of the tournament.

from his wikipedia page:
"Coulibaly is rumoured to hate the United States of America with the burning passion of a white hot sun."
