My hopes are nil. If England do laughably bad i'm for being entertained by it anyway.

Do you guys really think Brazil is that strong?

Of course we always have tradition and "shirt power" and everything, but we have one of the worst teams of the last 30 years, if not the worst.

We have ONE key man, Kaka, who's coming from an injury. We have SEVEN defensive midfielders, and none of our attackers have the brilliance of Romario or Ronaldo in his prime. While I consider Robinho and Luis Fabiano good players, I don't think they are as good as other attacking duos we had in the past (Robinho is a good dribblers, but lacks in many other areas. Luis Fabiano has some presence near the goal, but it's not really that skillfull. He at least is good at positioning and can score lots of goals).

We don't have a creative midfield, which is something our attack depends a lot. At least our back line is pretty strong, which is really weird for a brazilian team.

Our good chance is more because most of the other teams are looking pretty weak too. I think Spain and Netherlands are the strongest teams this year... but as we know, it's not always the best who wins.

I've never understood why Rooney gets so pissed during games really. Seems like he's always lucky to not receive a red card half the time. At this rate, the team to win will be the team with the least injuries. I can't believe Nani is out due to a bruised collarbone.

So, looks like we have a nice grudge match right out of the gates.
UK vs. US this Sunday morning at 3:30 AM local time. Are you going to watch the game somewher especial, DCharlie? I'm going to Unit in the hours leading up to to see Oliver Ho. I hear Unit has a TV, so maybe they'll be showing it. The guest DJ is English after all. :)

I'm in England at the moment. With recent events back here in Whitehaven there's a huge rush of people coming together and the place is awash with St. George's flags with them drapped over peoples houses, cars, stores, flying from flagpoles (though at half mast for the next few days of course) but it's really pretty special here at the moment. From all the last 6 months tradegy in the region the people are really pulling together - it's quite a scene and whilst i was mildly excited for the world cup now i'm really really up for it.

Just hope the English perform like they can.

I will be back by the last 16 and Unit is probably an excellent place to watch the game.

The head honcho (CEO) announced today that they will setup a 60" tv in the cafeteria on monday so we can watch the match between holland v denmark, as its the only danish match that is played during work hours. We wont get paid to watch the game, but the alcohol policy is discarded in the period of time of the match

I couldn't believe it as I read it.

In GP's defense pretty much all the UK will be supporting England since they are the only team from the UK represented.

The English would have no problem watching the Welsh, Irish or Scotish as long as it was an excuse to go to the pub. If any of those teams were the only ones in it i'm sure they would be getting the UK vote. It is pretty sad if not.

Yes, we have that annoying ability of being able to string together proper sentences. I do see you've finally caught up to the 1940's and acknowledged North America as a continent... or, you don't have the energy to keep up with all of your circus acts.

What has a Football tournement got to do with Nelson Mandela and politics? Nothing. They should stop banging on about it and get on with it. Well done South Africa, you've come a long way, you can even host the World Cup, would you like a bag of sweeties and a pat on the head?

Come on Mexico. It's started.

I was banging my head against the wall that whole time. Seriously, great and all, but don't go on for 8 solid minutes SAYING THE SAME THING over and over.

Also, go Mexico!

Everyone always says this, but you kind of zone them out after a while.

Also, in case anyone didn't know, the match tied, 1-1.
Surprised me like fuck that Mexico didn't get the first goal, but hey.

Prediction - failure.

Pretty slow game as France didn't pass off the ball to the play makers (Ribery, Gourcuff, etc..) and the Uruguay duo of Suarez and Forlan were also ineffective. Didn't catch the RSAvMEX game but good on RSA for getting a goal.

uruguay vs france was hard to watch. real boring. and Ribery did absolutely NOTHING? everytime he got the ball he either kicked it the hell away or lose the ball in a 1v1 situation. I dont see France advancing at all.

Looking forward to Argentinas match today. Also excited to see if England will get into gear

Argentina v Nigeria today.

I think this one will be pretty awesome to watch.

Richie's crappy prediction today

England 1 - 2 USA

England make the first howler as predicted before.

Maradonna knocks England out of the competition again.

The kicker for me is most of the westerners at my venue of choice are sure to be English. O_o Maybe I'll wear my bicycle helmet just in case.

I think England will beat the USA today.

The SA goal was a beauty.

South Korea are whipping Greece 2-0 at the moment. The Greek defence is about as solid as their economy. I like The South Korean guys, they've got heart - they're the only Asian footballing nation who ever seem to get anywhere too.
Once again, I'll be surprised if Japan make it out of the group stage.
