Re: introducing Duality ZF
as far as i know, they're working hard on it, to try and make it into XBLA... anyway, summer time has just begun, so, since theres no 4 seasons here (only rainy and DRY-HOT (or DRY-COLD) days), i think, there's like 2 months left b4 the game comes out (hopefully, way less than that... but who knows).sjewkestheloon wrote:Hope this isn't dropping off the radar...
i'd be good if the Doucette Bros gave us a hint of when is it gonna be released (the current timefrae its pretty much "vague").

Re: introducing Duality ZF
Thank you. As an update, we are entering Dream Build Play 2009 and we will be looking into release options afterwards. Just entering this contest may bring forth new opportunities. There is already an idea in our minds that we should wait for the "Xbox LIVE Indie Games" rename of "Xbox LIVE Community Games" launch, as there will be a user rating system introduced along side of it. (We could potentially be promoted along side of it.) If we release before hand, our game will quickly be lost in the system and will receive few ratings and may never rise to the top again. There are over 350 games in the system as is. Anyone with an Xbox knows how hard it is to find a game among such a number on LIVE.shanemender wrote:Hi Matthew Doucette...

I want to take this moment to thank everyone at Shmups Forum for all the great feedback, help, and support! Wish us luck!

all i can say is, that since its your game, you can do whatever you feel like doing with it, since ... well, you wanna get a proffit from it... but, GUYS!... i better shut up.
PS: oh... yeah, GOOD LUCK TO YOU ON THE CONTEST.

Re: introducing Duality ZF
Thanks guys! The contest deadline is in 2 weeks, August 6th. So the game has to be basically done by then.
After we submit it, we'll toy around with minor things while awaiting the results. If we don't win, the game will be released onto Indie Games (we may try and time the release with the new name change).
If we win the contest, and get an XBLA contract (unlikely, but possible)... I have no idea what'll happen; that's new territory. It'll be even longer before the game comes out, since I'll have to program in real achievements and leaderboards, but most of the hoops I'll have to fly through are already done: the game already handles unplugged controllers, pulled out memory cards, etc., all the annoying crap that only hurts 1 in 100 people who do something stupid
so the 'update' should be quick. If XBLA wants more, we'll implement a new weapon system along side the Dual SL (spread/laser) and online multiplayer, and definitely make it worth the wait!
So... I'd say look for the game to be on there when the name is renamed to Indie Games.

Re: introducing Duality ZF
basically mid to late september, in case you dont get the XBLA contract (which would be cool... but maybe unlikely... but who knows!... for what i've seen of your game, its pretty darn polished and all that... possitive minds, guys, possitive minds).
anyways, i just saw the prices, and hope you get at least one of those... that'd put the shmups on the scope again.

Re: introducing Duality ZF
Well it looks to be a nice game, I would like to know some reviews/comments on this game or you can rate this game so that i can start playing this game.
Re: introducing Duality ZF
Sorry it has been so long. We have been impossibly busy, if that even makes sense. I have finally started a thread in the general chat forums, to break it out of the development section. Please check it out. I posted news on our top 20 placement in Dream Build Play 2009 in the first post.
http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=27987
Thank you all again for your input, feedback, help, criticism, support, and patience...
(EDIT & FYI: I spoke with a Shmups Forum moderator on how to go about splitting this topic off into the general chat, and it was recommended that I should take this course of action.)

New Duality ZF gameplay footage:

A build of Duality ZF, along with a pitch, is being sent out to XBLA publishers today. Wish us luck.
EDIT: I should also add that Duality ZF is a Dream Build Play 2010 finalist... great news to place in this contest again, second year in a row, which will help us have a stronger release this year.

Looking good!
I quite like the small bright red explosions used for the projectile collisions. Looks pretty devastating.

There were 350 games from 110 countries entered. We are proud to note that we are first in our country this year.

As mentioned in the other thread, here's new footage, introducing G-MODE, the ability to control two multidirectional firing fighters at once:

No update from the XBLA publishers yet, but one of them is meeting Microsoft's XBLA team tomorrow. Wish us luck.

Thank you. We appreciate all of your support. It goes without saying, but I can't say it enough.

Re: introducing Duality ZF
As posted in the other thread...
Duality ZF update:
1) We are still persuing an XBLA contract. We cannot get into the details of it, and we will not celebrate until Microsoft gives a green light to a publisher whose contract we have signed, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
2) The game, whether it makes it to XBLA or not, has improved greatly with its visuals. It was the number one thing interested XBLA publishers asked for. And they asked for improvements in a manner that we were able to answer.
We hope to post some video footage soon. Our lives have become ever increasingly more busy.
3) We have entered Duality ZF into the 3rd Independent Game Developer's Competition. Please sign up and vote for us (and a runner up). You can also rate and comment on our game, which will help push other gamers to vote for us. I have posted more details here:

We appreciate anyone who takes the time to sign up to a new website and vote for us. Please let us know if you do. I know what it's like on Facebook and whatnot when friends get into competitions and hardly anyone takes the time out of their day to vote for them.

Re: introducing Duality ZF
Looks better and better. I really like those "ghost continues", very elegant way to implement dynamic difficulty.
"A game isn't bad because you resent it. A game is bad because it's shitty."
Re: introducing Duality ZF
So true. At the point where a casual player gives us (their last life death), we engage them with a new mechanic that even hardcore players would like to see in action. And the continue happens effortlessly, so we don't even give them a chance to quit and not "continue". This seamlessness should work.worstplayer wrote:Looks better and better. We're finishing up Score Rush on Turbulenz, a browser platform. Please try it out! Then we're likely moving onto some more updates of our smaller titles. Then onto Duality hopefully on XBLA and Steam for end of 2012. Thanks for the continued interest and support, it is appreciated.

Re: introducing Duality ZF
Got me interested if it builds off of the gameplay of score rush. I don't need anything too fancy but the way you hook people is always with a tricky scoring mechanic that balances risk / reward, so I would have liked to see that added to a game like score rush.
Re: introducing Duality ZF
Thanks for your input. Right now Score Rush and Duality ZF are both based on domination score mechanics, and while it served its purpose in Score Rush, we realize we can do more, and make it even more fun with a more varied mechanic involving multipliers and bonuses for a bunch of cool things (including aggressiveness and domination). The risk vs. reward concept is powerful, and Decimation X3 actually handles that very well. You guys should check it out.
P.S. Score Rush is now playable in your browser with 30+ Leaderboards and 30 badges (achievements) for a bunch of very cool things, on the Turbulenz platform, which has all of the social aspects of friends / comments / messaging that you expect in next-gen consoles.
