Re: Eden's Aegis new on Shoot The Core

Some of the art is changed, including the score gems, and some of the bullet sprites, notably the 3rd boss's fork bullets which are much easier to see now.

Slowdown has been added to a lot of boss attacks, similar to the change from BWR to BWR+. I think it's a good change but it might be annoying to some.

The best change in my opinion is that your counter is no longer totally reset when you get hit (assuming you have auto-guard on). It is still reset when you actually lose a life, though. On the negative(?) side, I encountered one time when I was just beginning a stage (4 maybe?) and I had no guard left. Because my counter for the stage would get wiped on the next hit, I judged it was a better idea to suicide at the very beginning of the stage so I'd get all my guard back. I'm personally not much a fan of any game system that encourages suicide for any reason. So, while counter-reset on death does add to the challenge of scoring well, I think it would've been better to only decrease the counter rather than totally kill it. It's a harsh punishment for dying midway through the stage or at the boss.

I'm just happy that the slowdown can be turned off. It really bugged me when the game dropped down to half speed during the first boss' second pattern.

Very fun so far. Although I can't tell much difference in patterns between it and BWR+ so far. Hell mode seems to add a whole mess of revenge bullets and not much else.

I don't mind the slowdown but it would be nice if it were smoother. Going from fullspeed to chunky slow and back feels pretty awkward, especially on a non-arcade game.

Is anyone else having trouble saving scores and replays? After having 1cc'ed heaven mode three times and not see the screens to do so, I'm wondering where they are and why i'm not seeing them

I haven't had any issues saving replays or scores, I also cleared Heaven mode. 63,726,840 incidentally. I have no idea how good that is.

Kind of funny, I tried a Hell run, and midway through stage 1 I had already beaten the default hiscore. Maybe he should make those a bit higher.

Exarion, put autoguard off. It is weird imo that you can save your scores with wait on.

I could save non-clear scores with autoguard on, but i'll try clearing with autoguard off tommorrow and seeing if that works. it seems odd that you can't save scores with the default settings.

Yeah.
The scoring-system is fun, but broken in the last stage.
I mean what the fuck:

(Upper one is a normal run and under it is my score in stage 5 in practise mode.)
Of course this was in 0.9-version, I don't know if it's changed or something.

I'm not sure if the scoring is as lopsided in 1.0, but you should download the 1.0 version that was released yesterday and try again.

It's more like ESP.Ra.De where you have a secondary "splash" gun you need to shoot at enemies in order to cancel bullets and turn them into precious point items. No pretty golden x16 though. You have an item chain counter that you need to keep as high as possible. Bombing doesn't kill your chain but dying does so if you die past the middle of the stage your score is essentially screwed.

I don't think it reaches the anal levels of a DoDonPachi in terms of strictness but it is quite punishing indeed. Best advice? Pick one and every bomb you find across the stages. I noticed some of them where there to be used at specific points during the bosses (the 3rd comes to my mind although I don't know if this one was toned down and the later bosses were buffed) and some chokepoints on later stages.

I tried turning autoguard off and still cannot save scores or replays from a clear on any difficulty, though clears of stages in practice can be saved even with autoguard on. No continues used, cannot save, game completely forgets I even did the run. Any suggestions?

Maybe you don't have write permission to the directory Aegis was installed to, so it can't save anything?

I can save stuff from practice mode, so that isn't it. I don't even SEE the screens to save replay and enter initials, a 1cc just shows me the credits, congraulation screen, and then the game over screen. If I continue, I just see the game over screen at the end. I have no idea what is causing this to occur, as something like this would have been spotted during testing unless it had weird conditions to trigger.

Okay, looks like the game has an anticheat function where it checks your replay at the end of your run for errors, and discards the run if it finds any. I think it's throwing a false positive at the very end of my runs, I'll have to figure out why. Also, I can't speak japanese, so I can't easy tell x.x about this bohrbug. For now, does anyone know how to unlock extra characters? I got Eve a few runs ago, and I suspect there is at least one more hidden character.

Anti-cheat engine? That's certianly interesting. Wonder how it works. Although I have a feeling we'll never know. :X

Yeah, I tested it out by hacking the number of lives I had from 2 to 4 at the start, then suiciding and not continuing (I normally use cheat engine in practice mode to "freeze" a boss at a pattern i'm having trouble with and give myself infinite lives). No option to save scores or replay. Once I realized it was an anti-cheat program, I tried running the game with no other processes (even unplugged my internet cable and turned my firewall off). Replay saved, i'll have to figure out which program it calls cheating at the end of a run.

Did you pause at all during your runs? If you pause, the game won't let you save a replay, but it will let you save your score. I just verified this in Practice mode.

Eve is unlocked by 1CCing the game with either Nanathy or Maple (in 0.90, you had to do it with both). To unlock Ridmie, 1CC the game with Eve and either Nanathy or Maple; the one you didn't use to unlock Eve, I guess. Ridmie now throws her bomb; I was hoping that her secondary weapon's range would be extended a little in this version, but it seems the same.

There's also a TLB, whom I haven't seen much attention drawn to. If you 1CC Hell, you'll face her after the final boss. I have a file that unlocks her in Practice mode for version 0.90, but it doesn't work with 1.00.

I also discovered another pointless little detail--the characters now have alternate colors, accessed by selecting them with the Bomb button.

When I try to play in fullscreen, my screen is just flickering blackness. If I select the 60 FPS option in custom, the black flickering only takes about half the screen, so it must be some sort of screen refresh problem, but I am apparently too inept to figure out a fix. Any ideas?

Played a credit in windowed mode, should be named Blue Wish Resurrection Futari. But it was pretty cool!

I couldn't save my scores or replays, so it was the anticheat. I think I know which program is causing it, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem. Also, thank you for the info on unlocking characters, though it looks like eve can be unlocked by just playing a run and not continuing.

Edit: i've found out what the problem program is, still no idea why it only triggered at the end of a run.

It truned out there was more than one cause. Xfire was always a problem, and occasionally AVG free antivirus and zonealarm firewall would be problematic. Unplug your internet cable if it's you antivirus software or firewall you have to disable.

Now I'm really curious exactly what this thing is checking for. Other processes poking it's memory addresses? Hardcore, man

X.X has released Edens Aegis V1.10 which is to be last planned version of the game. I havnt played it myself yet but i hear it has some bug fixes in (hopefully that anti cheat bug that stopps u from saving ur scores and replays has been fixed)

as for gameplay changes i dont know if there is any.
