Eden's Aegis new on Shoot The Core

Post by kengou »

This game is really, really good. It feels a lot like a cave game (specifically, a lot like those in the ESP series) and it's just really great. I can't read japanese so I couldn't find any place to download/buy the full version, but I would for sure.

Usually x.x releases his full games for free.....this is most likely a preview of the first level while working on the final version of the game. Give it some time, and the complete version will probably appear on his (or her?) main website instead of Vector.

Yeah. This is version 0.10. It's just a demo (and a somewhat glitchy one at that).

Actually, the links on his website now point to Vector Soft.

Thanks, I'm downloading his/her other games right now. I didn't notice any real bugs in the demo, except maybe some dodgy (no pun intended) hit detection

There's a bug that keeps the music from playing, even when the music is set to on. I think it happened because I turned off the guard in options. When I changed them back and then turned off the guard again, the music played fine. I like how the game combines aspects of Blue Wish Resurrection, Eden's Edge, and Green Wind, but it seems like it might need a faster computer than the previous games. It doesn't seem to have a mode to run up to 70-80 FPS like BWR and Eden's Edge.

Actually they run at 60 fps.

The older games run at higher rates when monitor refresh rate exceeds 60 hz however. Just a little oversight that makes the game run faster than normal.

No.. it always screws up some element of the music each time I boot up the game. After 1 play-through though, it runs correctly. There's also some nasty frame-dropping in Hell Mode.

It seems to me that Nanathy is definitely the easier character to score with. Her regular shot and super-shot aren't quite as strong as Maple's... plus her slower speed means that she doesn't feel out of control when I let off fire.

the fact you cant hear the music is probably a good thing after watching that video....

I tried the Blue Wish Resurrection in the proper framerate and it still seems to run smoother. Both Eden's Ageis and BWR run at 60 FPS at the proper setting, but Eden's Ageis has more frame drops for me. It seems to drop whenever I fire at the enemy for Eden's Ageis, but that's not the case with BWR, where the framerate seems to be more constant. However, I find Eden's Ageis to be very promising so far and I like how it combines elements from Eden's Edge and Green Wind (and of course the games that they already used elements from).

The scoring system is very simple but shows some promise. As far as I can tell, the secondary weapon puts an enemy in 'blue mode' (i.e they turn blue for a few seconds). Killing the enemy in this mode yeils a lot more gems (like maybe 100 or 200% more at times). There's also a few more things going on that I can't make out, but it'd be nice if X.X implements a nice proximity based scoring system like in Blue Wish.

Anyway, it's looking great :D

Of course, stupid me. If you kill an enemy in 'blue mode, all on-screen bullets generated by this enemy are turned into gems and then absorbed by the player, adding to the gem chain. As soon as I figured this out, I managed to score over 2 million on level 1, pretty much doubling my last high score. This one is going to be fun to play for score :)

I've been able to break 4.2 million in stage 1 (Original Mode) using Nanathy. I can probably eek another 100 or 200 thousand out of the level though.

This game looks awesome.

Too bad I cant FIND IT!

Went to shoot-the-core, clicked the so-called "download" link, and was taken to a page of pure unreadable gibberish (stupid Japanese sites!), and nothing I click on provides an actual DOWNLOAD, just a link to more nonsense.

How the heck do I do this?

EDIT: Nevermind. More random clicking discovered that it was good ol' VISTA that was hindering it, so I'd passed by the actual download page without even knowing.....

That's cool. Managed to get it up to 3.2 million in org and hell, but I don't want to get sick of the 1st level before it comes out even.

I had a question, why do all Doujin games that I play look better in windowed mode and look really bad in full screen?

I have to say that even though this was exceedingly polished, the demo didn't really captivate me the way that I wanted to. Maybe because it's just the first level, stand-alone?

We'll see when the full version is eventually released.

Is there any fix for that? When I'm at my girlfriend I can play them without any problems, becaus she has a notebook an the refreshrate of the tft screen is 60 hz, so there isn't any problem. But at home I have only a CRT and I can only limit the refreshrate to 85 Hz, without getting my eyes hurt, but then the game runs with 85 FPS and I want it to run with 60... :F

Almost. The X X website still shows 0.11 and download link to 0.11. The blog shows pics of 0.20 update, but also something about bugs/errors still being worked out (sorry google translation isn't the best).

What I'm assuming is stage 2 seems heavily inspired by Mushi's stage 4 (judging by screenshots).

Here's a link to download Eden's Aegis version 0.20.

And knowing Japanese, I'll just lead you to the download instead of you having to go through all of that trouble to download it.

Translating his recent blog post (with human translation and not machine translation):

Wallpaper Change Feature.

I apologize for any programming mistakes or if [this feature on] ver. 0.20 wasn't any useful.
I'll make sure ver. 0.21 fixes [these problems] right away.
This function allows users themselves to be able to change the wallpaper in the game or something similar to that [concept].
(You can stock up to 99 wallpapers)
Even pathetic works like these can be used as [the game's] wallpaper.

That's all I can get for now.

Anything new? Changelog or something? Did he at least change the awful music? I preferred the old midi tunes.
