Re: Sony = WTF?
Im sure Sony are not a charity.
All they did was change the lock on the door for a better one.
All they did was change the lock on the door for a better one.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

That and/or the Blu-ray drive, for those who are solely interested in warez (cf. Xbox 360, where warez is a lot easier than homebrew because the drive itself is nowhere near as locked down as the main system). Anyway, a few people have probably already dumped/decrypted the kernel of Game OS via geohot's exploit.Skykid wrote:I just reckon the hackers will go to work on the XMB instead now.

There have been 6 updates in the last 9 months. Doesn't seem like that excessive an amount really.

Re: Sony = WTF?
No really, this is what it feels like - non-stop updates and that's on top of the absolutely retarded amount of install time for games which honestly seems to do nothing except hog hard drive space cos they all still have plenty of loading screens. Sometimes the PS3 feels weirdly antiquated. It's new and modern, but somehow the functionality feels slightly out of date.kernow wrote:Updating now, all I seem to do on this thing recently is update, check store, upate, check store.
God damn, the fact we're in such agreement leaves me feeling like I need a cold shower.I can't remember the last thing I played on it, meh modern gaming, thank god for the SNES and JAMMA.

More lols @ Sony for having wasted money on this feature and pulling it out later in the first place.
Why don't they get it over with and lock the sealed game box in an underground radioactive lair and charge people to view the footage by telescope? That should have them, the other movie studios, and the rest highly pleased. Of course then there's always the possibility of hacking the telescope video feed...damn things aren't glued to the eyes, you know, and you can tell somebody else what you saw.

Re: Sony = WTF?
show me one that says that.do not visit PlayStation(R)Network or our websites
Re: Sony = WTF?
The "do not visit Playstation Network" part is pretty much standard. That's basically the equivalent of "do not use our service if you do not agree to the terms". The "or our websites" seems a bit unnecessary but hardly unexpected, if they consider their websites part of their services...
I find the whole "WE MAY AT ANY TIME TERMINATE YOUR ACCOUNT WITH OR WITHOUT REASON, WITH OR WITHOUT NOTICE TO YOU" (or similar, they all have that sort of thing) a bit more silly.

Re: Sony = WTF?
Just to throw my opinion in here: I too think antron bolded out the wrong part(or bolded out too much of it), I think most of it is standard fare by almost any company offering such services, but this one here:
is totally disturbing; basically that one sentence could contain situations like, for example, me visiting a sony-published PS2's game website on a regular basis could mean that I have to agree with their PSN for PS3 and PSP policy? Yeah, right.Continued
use of any SCEA website means you agree to the new Privacy Policy.

Re: Sony = WTF?
The tone of the whole thing, coupled with these statements, seems rather odd to me. Is this hypervisor thing really worrying them? Perhaps they've seen a hole in the pre-update FW that's ripe for exploitation.ZOM wrote:Just to throw my opinion in here: I too think antron bolded out the wrong part(or bolded out too much of it), I think most of it is standard fare by almost any company offering such services, but this one here:is totally disturbing; basically that one sentence could contain situations like, for example, me visiting a sony-published PS2's game website on a regular basis could mean that I have to agree with their PSN for PS3 and PSP policy? I've chosen not to update my PS3 for the time being. Lost Planet 2 multiplayer can wait for the 360 version.

Re: Sony = WTF?
It's fuzzy, at least in the US. Judges and scholars disagree, and that's always a recipe for a fun time in court. See e.g. Vault v. Quaid, Step-Saver v. Wyse, and ProCD v. Zeidenberg.Specineff wrote:Yo, that EULA shit don't have no legal value.

AFAIK, US courts have consistently ruled against companies that tried to enforce their EULA terms against people who never installed the software (e.g. if someone buys the "educational" version of a software package whose EULA prohibits resale, then sells it on eBay, that's covered by copyright and first-sale doctrine; the EULA simply does not apply). So there's at least that.

There's the odd-ball Atari Jaguar EULA that was written and included with every 1st-party & 3rd-party published Atari Jag game during it's short lifespan has a statement that says:
"If you don't agree or abide with the terms & conditions of this "license agreement" between you and Atari Corporation, return the unopened package with proof of purchase to Atari or the dealer where you purchased the software. The purchase price will be refunded. The license is effective until terminated. You may terminate this agreement at any time by completely destroying the enclosed software (Atari Jaguar cartridge medium)."
Crazy but true.
