Awesome. Thank you, hirounder, for the on site reports.
So, Guwange for xbla. Cool, the game looks neat, I'll take it. A big year for shmups. Where's Capcom? They usually step up when it's nichecore.

Pretty funny considering you haven't even played DS2. The 3D is bad, but it could still be fun. And look at the bright side: it comes out in May, getting it off the list. Cave's games aren't endless, if they want to keep up this trend, I'm sure MMP and others will come.

No I haven't played it but I'd take Ibara or Muchi Muchi over DS2.
Now I what I really hope it is that 5pb has really learned the lesson with Daiojou and the new shooter they're making turns out to be not a buggy one.

I'll be honest and say I missed out on Guwange, so the news makes me look forward to finally trying it out.

I am not saying he's not right, but is just that this piss me off because DS 2 is really new, while the others have been in the arcades for a few years and I was expecting to get them before this one.
But I guess I can't blame them because it is mch easier to port a 3D shooting game that a 2D one.
Anyway we can be happy because we are getting more Cave love.

Now has anybody tried the ketsui port?

Anyone seen how good Guwange looks? I'm a little concerned about how it's going to look upscaled. Hopefully they won't add any fugly filters. Looks nice in the screenshots, but they are small.

And not to sound like a broken record....but they just had to put the little girl's face front and center and way bigger than the guy's. Why are the Japanese so obsessed with cute girls in their shmups nowadays?

What do you guys think of that new Hori RAP Premium stick? It looks mighty nice. I really like how you can customize/store/cover your buttons with ease. Price is pretty steep at 30000 yen. Do you think this will be the best? I would hate to drop that kind of cash and them put out a premium ultra version.

I like how my xbox stick is usb so I can often use it with my computer. How easy would it be to use this stick on other consoles?

available on mame is not a port.
People voted for Dodonpachi (third place) and we already have two ports. That's what strikes me.

i agree, its superior for the shmup pcb purists. but you dont get training mode etc, which is a downside for non-experts.

What about Sky Stage?

I looked at alot more screenshots for Guwange. I really like the look of it, like a feudal horror theme.
Turns out, I have that Guwange folding fan. I though it was just some ukiyo-e print.

Looks top tier—but I can't afford it, it's ridiculously huge, and aesthetically speaking I say the HRAP EX-SE has it beat.

Hori finally got off their asses and made a common ground PCB, so modding for multiple consoles should be much easier.

IMO, they only stepped up with the VLX because MadCatz one-upped them with the TE. I don't see MadCatz trying to outdo this ($300+ is not a viable price in the US) so I don't think Hori's going to continue improving upon it.

It is really huge, but quality has a price. If now it has a 30000 yen price (just like the Virtual On one) later it will be hhiger since I really doubt that Hori is going to make thousands of this.
Anyway, those who've tried the Ketsui port, how is it?? What I have read is that the display options are really scarce (only 3 possible setups), and that it looks horribel but I am more interested in the core gameplay than anything else because we've always have the option to use XRGB.So how does it play?

And I guess you could save-state for level training, too.

Yup

Deathsmiles 2X played much better than the arcade game! The added CG is kind of weak, but I didn't really get the "incomplete" feel that the arcade version had when playing the 360 port. Playing the game on rank 3 actually makes it more enjoyable now! This might be a game to watch.

Nah, I feel ya bro. When I was in kindergarten, I was gang-raped by a pack of 4th grade girls, ever since I've had a deep aversion to the female form.

Well, I doubt at 4th grade they had much of a 'form'. You can recover!
