I literally logged on this morning to find the SHMUPS for XBOX360 thread to try and convince myself to buy a JP console and then saw the news in this thread.
Espagluda2 was never announced to be region free, nearly everyone was pretty sure that it would be locked. People without J360 who pre ordered it are just stupid. It's like pre-ordering Metal Gear 4 if you never owned a PS3 in the first place.Shelcoof wrote:Good news its region free YAAHH

People just wanna know what the fuck to expect! Cave has been doing this back and forth "based on sales" of what will be region free or not. region free, not region free, localized, back to region locked, nevermind region free.......I mean come on!cul wrote:Espagluda2 was never announced to be region free, nearly everyone was pretty sure that it would be locked. This is good news. Even if I don't plan to buy it.
Well, I don't think it'd be pointless if you think the item will be hard to find later on. The problem is that the LE costs like half a 360 anyway so it doesn't make sense to splurge on a game if you don't own the console. Plus, the new Jasper models have no known major issues so holding out for more reliable systems is no longer an excuse either. So yeah, this shouldn't affect sensible LE buyers at all but it's good news for less diehard fans. Of course, that means a localization will be highly unlikely.cul wrote:Espagluda2 was never announced to be region free, nearly everyone was pretty sure that it would be locked. On one hand you're right in that it shouldn't affect LE buyers. But on the other it does in that given the choice of having to play solely on a Japanese 360 or picking up the version that plays on anything the LE is somewhat less appealing. I wonder if the LE being region restricted is due to Aksys possibly localizing the game. Given what they've done with the Aragast & BlazBlue LEs (being better than their Japanese counter parts) and that they have similar intentions for Death Smiles then if they've licensed ESP they'll undoubtedly be planning an awesome LE version. So then Cave can essentially sell us the game twice. We buy the region free standard edition directly from Japan then we buy the domestic LE version....Ganelon wrote:Well, I don't think it'd be pointless if you think the item will be hard to find later on. How reputable is this site? Can anyone give any recommendations? Thinking about putting a pre-order in if it's still go for region-free in a few days...durango76 wrote:To let you all know - http://www.videogameimports.com/ has the normal edition listed as region free - LE region locked... Quit a bold statement to say those who pre-ordered without owning a J360 first is stupid. Your assumption that nearly everyone knew it was going to be region locked is just as stupid as the statement you made about those who pre-ordered the game.cul wrote:Espagluda2 was never announced to be region free, nearly everyone was pretty sure that it would be locked. VGI are very trustworthy... just kinda expensive. Lee's a good guy. I think in this case though, he's just parroting what was said on Kotaku (NCSX did the same thing earlier today).Danbo Daxter wrote:How reputable is this site? Can anyone give any recommendations? They've flat out lied in the past on a few occasions actually. Not that that means much, but I would hardly use them as a definitive source on anything without another source to back it up.bloodflowers wrote:Excellent. I believe Kotaku, they've printed bad rumours before, but not to my knowledge printed outright fake quotes.

Another recent example is when Arcsys announced a new GG game in the works, Kotaku posted an article that said to the effect of 'Arcsys working on a brand new Guilty Gear 2D Fighter'. None of the original quotes said anything about it being 2D or a Fighter and the article basically ignored all the previous history as to why there aren't any more 2D GG games.sjoecool1991 wrote:I need to see some examples of Kotaku flat out lied, because I cannot seem to find those examples myself.
C'mon, 99% of the time when they post a rumor, there is a giant rumor tag on it, but that does not necessarily mean that they think its 100% true.

Pretty much my thoughts exactly. I got the JP 360 near the start of the year since I figured I'd be able to play the shmups that were region locked, whether they were released before or any that will eventually be released. I have no regrets and if the news is true, I'll eventually get the SE later. That and of course the release day will be a great day for shmup fans.genetik wrote:Good news, but in my games collecting lust, I'm getting the LE. I didn't plan on getting the regular edition. Now that it has the bonus of working in any of my 360, I will pick one up too. So, it's a good news that is making spend more money on the game.
I don't complain and I know I'm part of very specific market that will end up buying both because of that.
Yeah it would be nice to actually get speedy shipping and not worry about customs ripping the package open and sneaking a peek at my sick perverted bug princess game then charging me £20 for the privilegeKiken wrote:VGI are very trustworthy... just kinda expensive. I can definitely see this happening. They're a website who is just there to get people to read it, and when they mention stuff that people want to hear, it'll get people's attention, even if it turns out untrue later, I don't think it would stop anyone from reading future articles that contain something they wanted to hear.Gwyrgyn Blood wrote:Another recent example is when Arcsys announced a new GG game in the works, Kotaku posted an article that said to the effect of 'Arcsys working on a brand new Guilty Gear 2D Fighter'. They also have deleted some articles in the past for being flat out wrong. I only remember this because one of them was related to BB. Course I have no evidence of that seeing as it was deleted.

MMP port to XBLA. It mysteriously "disappeared" about a day or two after they posted it, although the rest of the post (an interview w/ Asada) stayed up.EOJ wrote:2.5D KOF 11.sjoecool1991 wrote:I need to see some examples of Kotaku flat out lied, because I cannot seem to find those examples myself.

I think what everyone wants to know is where Kotaku got the quote from - did Ashcraft bump into Asada in the pub or something? Kotaku will often link to the source of the news they print - it's odd that on this occasion they haven't bothered.robthebanks wrote:I found out here: http://kotaku.com/5471899/if-you-want-t ... -this-postJeneki wrote:Out of curiosity, who is the source on this region-free news? I don't think you're wrong necessarily, but it seems something in the production schedule required them to have the LE discs ready first. The most reasonable explanation is that it takes longer to pack the LEs and they needed more lead time to get all the planned stock boxed and ready at the factory so that it would make it out by release date.Phellan Wolf wrote:Maybe I am mistaken because I don't know how the replication of DVD's is handled but I have always thought that you send the master and then the replication of the disc is done. I guess I was wrong all along
I might be mistaken, but I think he means that he ordered it. I wouldn't suspect he's received the tangible copy yet.Leroy wrote:Eh, you got it?rancid3000 wrote:Just got my standard edition from NCSX. Here's the math. Damn NY sales tax...
