By the way, folks, the update should be available in your area, now. It's badass.

Re: Gradius Rebirth (WiiWare)
Sorry, yeah. It mainly consists of additional music from the MSX games, some noticeably improved graphics and some changes to the scoring that I haven't quite picked up on, yet. The leaderboards have been wiped clean for these changes, and now only record the top twenty.
Re: Gradius Rebirth (WiiWare)
What exactly are the graphic improvements?

Re: Gradius Rebirth (WiiWare)
Ach, that's a shame. It'll have a tab saying 'Updated!' when it is available, so just look out for that in your 'Downloaded Games' section.
I'll have to get back to you with a full list, Zeether. Haven't really had a chance to finish the first couple of loops, yet.

Re: Gradius Rebirth (WiiWare)
Based on playing the updated Japanese version:
Moai rings are worth 50 points instead of 10, rotating Moai platforms are worth 2000 when fully destroyed, and stage 4 skeleton bones are 100 instead of 0. I think that's it. Basically you will earn more points in the same time/distance.
Graphic changes are some different coloring and better death animations for some enemies and the Moai heads. Also they give graphical hints on where the secret bonus stage spots are in stage 2 and 4 on every loop.
It has been quite a chore to make all the highscores on every version, but now if they even have the updated version for each territory, I doubt I'll bother. Just think about it: 3 versions, 5 difficulty levels. Now multiply with 2 with the updated version. 30 separate highscores. I think I'll settle with my loop 73 highscore. By the way the leaderboards haven't been wiped out. You can check the older version highscores by pressing left on the rankings.

Re: Gradius Rebirth (WiiWare)
Got the update, played it briefly.
The supposed graphical improvements are really only marginal. You have to look hard for them to even notice. The music is different, but not necessarily better. The main difference seems to be that the game's overall a little more difficult, or at least rank seems to go up much quicker. Am I imagining things or has someone experienced the same?

Re: Gradius Rebirth (WiiWare)
I haven't noticed anything like that, but the scoring changes mean that the game pisses extra lives from every orifice in the early stages, which I hope will encourage more players to explore the second and third loops, since they can now almost buy their way through the first one.
Re: Gradius Rebirth (WiiWare)
My second attempt playing the Score Attack mode and I got a 7th place in the WiFi rankings. Don't people submit their scores too often or what is this? My Wii's an European one.
If watching the trailer of the game

you would give the game a try

Re: Gradius Rebirth (WiiWare)
There were only ever about 10 people playing it semi-seriously in Europe anyway, by the look of things. I haven't had much of a chance to play it since the patch was released, but I'll go back to it at some point.
Re: Gradius Rebirth (WiiWare)
Has the US version been updated yet? I can't check the shop because my Wii is softmoded.

Re: Gradius Rebirth (WiiWare)
Ubersaurus bought his Wii here this past weekend and we played Gradius....its the shizz-nitt! That and Tatsuneko vs Capcom crap is tempting me to buy a Wii....which I promised to my self never to get one.

Re: Gradius Rebirth (WiiWare)
It's mind-boggling how we haven't gotten the update yet. I was only kidding when I asked how many years until we get it. This is utterly ridiculous. A localization may be one thing, but I see no reason why they couldn't put the update out for other regions the very day it came out in Japan.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

You're obviously forgetting Super Mario Galaxy which is nothing short of amazing, Sin & Punishment 2, New Super Mario Bros Wii, The House of the Dead Overkill, Muramasa, Megaman 9, ... ;DROBOTRON wrote:Ubersaurus bought his Wii here this past weekend and we played Gradius....its the shizz-nitt! I don't know why I don't already have this game. I guess a lot of the negative impressions put me off, but everything I've seen of it looks pretty good.
