Taito's a special little company with a special place in my heart. I especially like having a Bubble Bobble title on it, but I'd also like to see Parasol Stars , although it was never released in arcades (there are rumors of a prototype), the only good version of it is for PC Engine. Fairyland Story is quite addictive too although it's premise is basic, but the collections would benefit from all 3 Arkanoid games, although I'm more partial to the first two.
I'd like to see both volumes make it to U.S. shores, I wouldn't care if there are unrecognizable games on it (likely none may be unrecognizable, since my MAME collection is massive enough) , it's the thought of how many games there are to play, and it could rtail for around 20 bucks.
Now Konami how about a nice few volumes for all the games you've made, yeah I remember the Konami Arcade Collection for PSX, but it would be nice to see a mixture of titles from them on a disc.

YES, a new Konami collection would be wonderful! Maybe we'd FINALLY get home ports of the thunder cross series, as well as Trigon, and some other great Konami shmups!Bloodreign wrote:Taito's a special little company with a special place in my heart. And besides shmups, they could put GI Joe, an AWESOME rail shooter, and Devastators on it!

At any rate, if Taito does put out a 3rd volume, I hope it has some Arkanoid love on it, and I'd also like to see Halley's Comet-the Game Gear port of this shmup (Halley Wars) is awesome, but I've never played either the arcade rev. or the Famicom Disc System port.

If Konami would do such a thing I'd prefer to see the Japanese version of Thunder Cross, the U.S. version just didn't do the Japanese version justice. Thunder Cross as a series though is a nice little diversion away from Gradius. I'd also like to see Trigon on it as well, but as far as I know Konami has no plans for a compilation disc, just like they recently brought nothing out for the Gradius 20th Anniversary.
But Taito leaving some games out of their collections because of unfamiliarity is just ridiculous, chances are the games will likely be bought by older gamers like me, although I'm sure a few younger gamers would buy it for nostalgia, or because a game they like is on it. What a bette way to introduce someone to a classic they never played by slipping it on the disc and giving them a chance to try it out, they could very well like it.

How enthusiastic...
Let's see. This is easier than all those speculations. Taito is doing a collection in two volumes for the Japanese market by itself. At the same time, Empire is doing another one for the European market under licence from Taito (much like the 32-bit ports of Bubble Bobble and Rainbow Islands). Two different games with similar content and just good timing.

I've only played the arcade version, but I've seen the first stage or so of the Saturn version, and it does pause, like a second, in game at times. I personally don't consider that an issue at all, but some people don't like it.professor ganson wrote:Are the technical issues significant? A have the altered US Pop 'n Pop for GBC (Yogi Bear's Great Balloon Blast). It's still a great game, but half of the characters have been cut (with the other half being changed to Yogi, Boo Boo, and Cindy Bear) and all of the bosses have been changed to Ranger Smith. It was worth getting for cheap, but the changes were horrid. I wouldn't mind getting my hands on an import version of that game.Danny wrote:Well pop 'n pop is a hybrid style game. It's essentaly space invaders crossed with puzzle bobble and is a very nice game. I like to play that from time to time after I completed Magical Drop 3 a few times

Wait until you play the Saturn version, it gets really frustrating after awhile. It's basically choppy at points and you have to wait awhile if you're selecting another ship (like in the Saturn port of Donpachi).dave4shmups wrote:I've only played the arcade version, but I've seen the first stage or so of the Saturn version, and it does pause, like a second, in game at times. Oddly enough, even though with those misgivings, I totally dig Gekirindan. The music saves that game.
How many Taito GBC games were changed like that? I first found out about the Front Line remake being changed to Sgt Rock: On the Front Line (incidentally that seems to be the least changed, most of the graphics were left alone and the text is pretty much a direct translation). Then someone pointed out Dexter's Laboratory: Robot Rampage was a hell of a lot like Elevator Action, and... well, it is the GBC Elevator Action, with entirely new graphics this time. And now Pop'n Pop... when will the madness end?BrianC wrote:A have the altered US Pop 'n Pop for GBC (Yogi Bear's Great Balloon Blast). (incidentally, both Pop'n Pop and Elevator Action EX were released in Europe unchanged)
well this is on topic I suppose but I did manage to sucure a copy of Pop 'n Pop today for £3.33. The case is a little broken but the rest looks fine.
