Now I wait. And then wait some more for Ketsui.

what about mushihime ;)
One would assume that a Cave fan who had a non-JPN 360 already would already own Futari ;)

Yeah I have it already, it rocks shit.

I can't wait to play Deathsmiles though. It looks like it's not quite as good a game as some of their other work, but:
1. I love horror, and a horror themed shooter is AWESOME even if it's cutesy.
2. I love Gate of Thunder, and the direction changing mechanic seems awesome.

But what I really want it Ketsui. I want it so badly.

ED: This post makes it seem like I don't absolutely adore Futari. This is false. Futari is the finest shmup I've ever played except maybe Mars Matrix.

I think it's one of their best games, if you asked me today I'd probably rate my all-time top 3 Cave games as 1)Muchi Muchi Pork, 2)Futari 1.5, 3)Deathsmiles. You won't be disappointed.

How is Futari compared to Death Smile? I had a choice of getting 1 or the other so I picked Death Smile. The whole theme of Futari just didnt appeal to me. But if the mechanics are really fun I wouldnt mind buying it after Espagluda 2.

I will say that DS is my favorite shooter now. It used to be Espgaluda but Im sure ESpgaluda 2 will top DS :)

I'll do a comparison when I play DS, but I'll just say this: Futari is absolutely positively fantastic.

I thought it was pretty much the best shmup I'd ever played, and then I downloaded Black Label and it got SIGNIFICANTLY BETTER. It's so polished and fun that it's unreal. I absolutely adore BL Maniac and God mode. I can't really think of a problem I have with it tbh.

EOJ, I am aware this is the wrong topic for this but:

What makes Muchi Muchi Pork so good? It's more in the Ibara vein, right? Could somebody who hates Ibara love Muchi?

I like Deathsmiles more than Futari. Futari's scoring system feels too gimmicky with its gem-based shot-switching, and having the gem counter on the upper corners of the screen is annoying. Futari Black Label isn't much better, since I'm not a fan of milking or point-blanking. Deathsmiles just feels a lot better to me, in terms of overall design. The ability to select a level's rank is also a nice touch. I still like Futari though. Futari 1.5 is my 2nd favorite Cave game so far.

Is Deathsmiles an average length for a shmup?

From vids I have a hard time ascertaining exactly how long it is. Levels seem to only take a minute.

Everything about MMP is awesome. Great scoring system, graphics, difficulty curve, bosses, etc. I wrote a review of it:

http://www.cave-stg.com/reviews/mmp.html

It doesn't play like Ibara at all (I'm not a fan of Ibara). It needs a port more than any other Cave game right now.

Yeah DS first 6 stages are fairly short. But it evens out as an average length because they have 9 stages in total. The last 3 stages are normal shooter length.

I like the way Muchi play looks, but your description makes me think I wouldn't like it. I hate the suicide aspect of Ibara.

But I would still buy it if it came out on 360 >_>

I'm the opposite, I don't understand the appeal of dicking around with a finnicky recharge system in DS. DS also requires you to memorize every single enemy and whether to use your shot or lockshot on them as well. I really like 1.1 though.

Having played MMP, the most annoying thing I found was having to press A after using your Lard attack (or it will continually drain). Oh and the 10 minutes of boss milking, I guess.

That's understandable. I guess it's all about what you'd rather deal with. I don't mind the recharging as much, and I feel I can get by without using the lockshot. Futari's gem/shot system feels far more constraining and cumbersome to me.

In total agreement with this.

You can play MMP without any suicides (unlike Ibara) and without any boss milking (or at least no more than in an Ikeda game like Futari) and still score well. That's the only way you can get to the second loop, after all.

EOJ wrote:The shot type thing is the same in 1.1, so you have to memorize it for that too. It's not hard, and it's a really unique aspect to the game system.
I never said it was hard, I said I didn't like it.
EOJ wrote:Once you get it down, the instant recharge thing is a piece of cake to do. Much like chaining in DDP, it takes practice to get the timing right. Unfortunately, also much like chaining in DDP, most people don't bother learning how to do it right and spend their time complaining about it instead. You can get a decent score without the instant recharge technique, of course, so it can be considered an aspect of high-level play.
And fully chaining the first stage of Daioujou was a great feeling when I first pulled it off. I did get a good score without the use of recharging (4,800,000ish) in 1.1, but the scoring system doesn't sit right with me and won't have me coming back time and time again (like Futari). It's just personal preference.
EOJ wrote:If you just want to blow over enemies while holding a single shot button down, never changing shot types or working with somewhat complex scoring systems, you'd be better off playing a game like Space Invaders (Cave didn't make that one).
Cave made Dangun, which isn't complex at all. Neither is Ketsui's scoring system for that matter. I wasn't aware that they didn't make Space Invaders though, thanks for the heads up.

Edit: I guess you drastically edited your post to something that doesn't even address me. That's just confusing, EOJ. Do you often post things that you regret and change them into something less snide?

For those that aren't watching NCS like a hawk, they commented this morning that they might be starting preorders of the LE next week. They also seem to believe the ratio of limited allocations to standard preorders is 1:4, which is better than what they were expecting.

I'm still torn on which version to order, and I've probably waited way too long to make a standard preorder and still be guaranteed a preorder bonus. I might just preorder the standard edition tomorrow and put up another order for the limited edition whenever NCS starts taking orders.

Good news, i just saw this now on the blog.

By the time they put it up, i should be able to place a pre-order for the LE. Likewise though, I'm similarly torn on which version to order. Most likely, when it comes up on NCSX or Play-Asia, the LE pre-order, I'll go for that, and if it by chance happens to be (*wont bring it up*), I'll probably just order in the SE afterward like how i did with Futari.

So you either: 1) deleted the post I replied to during the time I was replying to it, and made a completely different reply, or 2) edited your post into a different reply, and due to it being the most recent post at the time, no edit tag was displayed.

I honestly don't care if you go around deleting stuff you regret saying. But I saw it, it was addressed to me, and I replied. I don't see what the problem is here.

If you also don't wish to address my counter-arguments because what you said "doesn't exist", that is also acceptable.

Of course you don't.

BTW no one cares, it has nothing to do with this thread. There is a PM button you can use if you feel the need to discuss this stuff.

Of course I don't see the problem in replying to something addressed to me.

I like how you're playing the thread derailment card when you just gave MMP information to somebody in a Galuda 2 thread.

Hopefully when I hit submit your Enchanting Post of Elusion will still be there.

Edit: Oh thank god, it's still there. This shit is intense.

Spamming threads with unrelated jpgs is annoying, so I deleted NTSC-Js post.

Also - lets get the bickering under control. Elixir would you mind not trolling EOJ, and EOJ would you mind just admitting it when you've changed your mind and deleted something, instead of pretending it didn't exist.

At the *truly terrible and frightening* risk of inciting more rage, is the DeathSmiles MBL download worth the money? I ask because I forgot to order arcade points when I ordered the game, and would have to do another transaction to get it. In addition, is there a guide for downloading it? I feel like there will be a bunch of japanese menus i won't understand.
