if I didn't have to spend so much for the additional hardware, I would definitely get it!

That does look very, very cool. The mech-chasing scene put a grin on my face. I just love it when new software is released for systems of yesteryear, they're often quite impressive.
Makes me wish I had the hardware to run this on.

Man, when I get my own place, I'm gonna have to get me an Amiga A1200, since you can play C64 games on the Amiga.

*shrugs* Well, they're both made by Commodore, and I am positive that I read somewhere that it you can run C64 games on an Amiga.Shatterhand wrote:Erm.. since when can you play C64 games on Amiga?
Maybe by emulation... but I don't think this game will run on emulators..
Or have I been living all those years in pure ignorance?

Well, I just emailed the guy who runs www.classicamiga.com; he should know, and I'd really like to! I'd rather purchase an Amiga then a C64 or 128.
Shame that the price isn't confirmed yet, if it's cheap I might pre-order it just to show my support. And you never know when you find the necessary equipment to play it on, or maybe someone who already has the stuff. Or until it's possible to emulate, at that point finding legal copies of the game might be a tad hard to find.

"Why did Cave go through the trouble of porting Mushihime, if it costs an imported or modded PS2 to play it on?"dave4shmups wrote: Then why the hell did these guys go to all this trouble to even MAKE this game, if it costs so much to even be able to play it?!
They didn't make the game for the shmup community, they made it for the C64-community. It's safe to assume those people already have C64/C128's and quite possibly at least some of them have the necessary extra hardware.

It's like how we love seeing ports to the Dreamcast, even though it's dead. It would be cool if there were some hardware addon for the Dreamcast that gave it tons of memory, etc... and somebody made games for it.
Same philosophy for the C64 to many.

Slightly OT but...
I'm also not a DC fanboy, I felt the same with the Commodore Amiga sound-wsie. Even though there were other 16-bit systems that sounded better on paper, there's something about the Amiga that smoked them - even the SNES, and still sounds fucking cool to this day.
I still say there's a certain quality, or 'sheen' as I more often think of it to the DC's graphics that no other console has yet to acheive. Dunno how to explain it, just something about the crisp colour and resolution that makes them look different. I'm not a technical guy so feel free to laugh in my face if you so wish, but certain games on DC still look utterly superb, and up there with anything the current machines have offered up. (Head Hunter, Daytona, Ikaruga, HOTD2 and Le Mans 24hr to name a few). It's like how we love seeing ports to the Dreamcast, even though it's dead. Well, as promised here are my 2 cents.
I played it through two of the four levels yesterday. Graphics and sounds are amazing from a technological point of view. I recognized no slowdowns so far and the sprites are very well drawn. The game itself is quite to hard imo. Its try and error from the very beginning. And you could die everywhere. The backgrounds killed me many times. This is getting frustrating. But there are a lot of nice ideas included within this game.
Edit: Forgot to mention: the price tag for the game including box, manual and two disks is 40 Euro.
