I think it's funny how one page covers all the animation frames in the entire game =D

Awesome!
That's how I did my first sprites on my C64 back in the 80s.
Drawing them in the grid and calculating by hand the hex values...
Getting an actual sprite editor was a relief though

That is awesome - it reminds me of my childish attempts at sprite art on Deluxe Paint III on the Amiga in the early 1990's!

Thanks for taking the time to post this for us!

Good point! I never really considered the oceanic theme of Space Invaders, but it's obvious in this picture...

It's strange how sea creatures and space isn't an uncommon combination in games. Think Space Invaders was the first to start this trend?

Maybe first, certainly the big one. I don't think anything really came before it that melded space/swimmers.

And of course Taito put even MORE fish in their other shmups!

Sweet! It's from an interview w/ Taito developer, Tomohiro Nishikado, and Tatio president Yoichi Wada.

this was viewable a few years ago at a video games history gallery at Yebsiu Garden Place in Tk.

There were a fair few of these documents in glass cases , but i only recall the Space Invaders from the Shmups side. Even had listings for the prelim. code , again on paper with pencil. Awesome.

Great to see it out on the web, as there was a strict no photography rule in place.

Cool find!

This was how I did my sprites too, back when in the early 90s when I was experimenting with game programming using Basic. I burned through a ton of graph paper!
