Squid Yes! Not So Octopus! XBL Indie Game (Robotron-ish)

Post by Doctor Fugue »

I have only played this twice, but there seem to be enough redeeming qualities to warrant more time with it.

-arena shooting game

-not twin-stick controlled, you only shoot in the direction you are facing (automatic or A button)

-only analog movement

-very customizable: scanlines, screen shake on or off, particle effects on or off, changeable craft turning speed, changeable screen zoom and aspect ratio, different arenas, practice mode, etc.

-saves high scores (no online leaderboards)

-fake "achievements"

-scoring based on survival time, enemies and bonuses (game ends at a certain score? - not sure yet)

-relatively pleasing audio and visuals

-excellent price: 80 points (1 USD)

- game is named after a line from the worlds most overlooked and most lyrically awesome band Half Man Half Biscuit

song: Them's the Vagaries, line bolded :
Bin men thin men lexicographers
Squid yes, not so octopus
Egg sandwiches on coach trips in June?
I simply won’t be there

No way joke shop excrement
Don’t say the light show’s excellent
It makes you smell of the laboratory instead of a
Fan of the band
never thought i'd see my passion for HMHB and gaming meld together. Game is good enough, like the 1 life set up.

Man, it seems like every single "indie" game is an arena shooter these days.
