YOUR FAVOURITE MEGADRIVE/GENESIS SHMUP!!!!!
Re: YOUR FAVOURITE MEGADRIVE/GENESIS SHMUP!!!!!
I'm split between V-V and Twin Hawk.
Re: YOUR FAVOURITE MEGADRIVE/GENESIS SHMUP!!!!!
Twin Hawk is was very nice. Always loved the little details in the background. It played very well and i should try it again soon. V-V was never my Toaplan Favorite. The game missed some Toaplan Magic to me. But its your choiceLeandro wrote:I'm split between V-V and Twin Hawk.

Undeadline. Too polished and addictive. Never managed to digest the TF series (best one for me is TF AC/TS, go figure).
I have also been very fond of Gleylancer but UD tops it.
Oh, I've also had a soft spot for Sol-Feace but I guess it doesn't count since it's CD and by the way I guess I overrated it just because at the time I was a real CD whore and everything that came on CD looked to me better than anything else (good times...)
I also want to say Sylpheed just because it's the best game evar.
signed, a deep lover of movie-shmups like Novastorm, Microcosm and Philosoma

Sol Feace/Deace was also available on Cartridge, like Earnest Evans.Fenrir wrote:

Hi there!
You guys have a nice forum and site!
I'm a Mega Drive fan since I was a kid and the best shmup was ever Air Buster for me. But nowadays I enjoy Thunder Force IV more (on the emulator).
I think Thruxton is also fantastic.

Re: YOUR FAVOURITE MEGADRIVE/GENESIS SHMUP!!!!!
Aside from soundtrack, Sol-Deace plays a little bit better than Sol-Feace. It has less flicker and slowdown (very noticeable during the 3rd boss fight), and the cartridge corrected the Engrish messages shown during the stage intros.fireleo4 wrote:Sol Feace/Deace was also available on Cartridge, like Earnest Evans.Fenrir wrote:

As Fenrir mentioned, if you go for the CD version I recommend getting the Japanese one, since it has very distinct sound effects that are missing in the US version (such as the creepy clanking noises when the 1st boss arrives).

Do YOU consider it a good thing? Shame on them.Kollision wrote:and the cartridge corrected the Engrish messages shown during the stage intros.

Gynoug / Wings of Wor and Gaiares (in no particular order).
Odd, considering I generally loathe horizontal shooters.

If it were a Megadrive shooter, that would be my favourite.DANMAKUMAN wrote: MEXICAN POWER!!!
I enjoy a number of Megadrive shooters, but the lack of a decent Megadrive stick (I use a converter for my HRAP2) has always put me off. I think I get a bit of lag with my Tototek converter...
More on topic, I have a soft spot for Steel Empire/Empire of Steel.

Re: YOUR FAVOURITE MEGADRIVE/GENESIS SHMUP!!!!!
You do? I used play with a Megadrive stick before, but the quality didn't match my standards so I switched to a HRAP with a Tototek convertor. So far it's just been great, no lag whatsoever.spadgy wrote:I enjoy a number of Megadrive shooters, but the lack of a decent Megadrive stick (I use a converter for my HRAP2) has always put me off. Re: YOUR FAVOURITE MEGADRIVE/GENESIS SHMUP!!!!!
My converter may be screwed. I used it with my Fighting Stick 2 once, and when I separated the two, each was a little damaged in the separation. My repair job is a little amateurish.
And my other Tototek converter (PS2>SNES if I remember rightly) is totally lag-free.

Another vote for V-V/Grindstormer. Excellent port.

I'd never seen Bio-Hazard Battle before, the game's definitely got personality!

I find myself playing Thunder Force III the most, just love the music in that game. Gleylancer and Battle Mania 2 are my next faves, the latter probably because of the inspiration it had on Death Smiles.

I know a lot of people probably wouldn't agree, but I'll be damned if I'm not enjoying some Master of Weapon lately. Bought it a while ago just that I would give it a spin over the weekend.

Re: YOUR FAVOURITE MEGADRIVE/GENESIS SHMUP!!!!!
Is it wrong to hate Thunderforce III/IV just because enemies don't flash when hit?
Re: YOUR FAVOURITE MEGADRIVE/GENESIS SHMUP!!!!!
I've never gotten on with Thunder Force, personally. I'd say Gynoug all the way, ramp up the difficulty, put on a pair of good headphones and enjoy. Actual bullet patterns, in a Genny game, and in stage 5 some of the most impressive use of the hardware I've ever seen. And that opening theme... godly.
