Does an LS-32 actually make a difference?

Post by Chacranajxy »

So now that there's actually some decent shmups on the 360, I've been playing a lot of shooters using my SF4 TE stick. Of course, this stick has a JLF, which is great for fighters, but I feel like I need to move it way too much in order to maneuver my ship in shmups. The dead zone just feels huge. Would switching to a Seimitsu LS-32 actually make that big of a difference here, or do I just need to get used to it?

It should be a night/day difference for you, yes as you say the dead zone feels huge. Just make sure you get the right one and fitting mounting plates before ordering one.

It's possible to reduce it:

I keep half a dozen spare brand new LS32s along with a pile of spares for the bits that wear out.

By far my favourite stick, and massively superior to a JLF. Note that it takes a couple of hours to break one in and the action changes dramatically during that time.

I heartily recommend having 2 sticks ... one ls32 and one jlf . If you're into fighters, and only have 1 stick I'd stay with JLF it's probably the more versitile imho. That being said if you're after scores, or hating the JLF at the moment - go for it and swap it out. There are some people who prefer an l32 for fighting; you could be one.

Yes, and the one you kindly sold me is now safely harboured in my cab. I managed to clear Dodonpachi's first loop after about 15 goes, and I really put a lot down to the stick change.

It does feel like it has a little more give than I expected, but works a treat.

It's the best there is IMHO. Costs $16 @ Ultimarc (called Eurostick there):

It does look like shit, but handles superbly (when assembled correctly).

Using a Seimitsu, a Sanwa, a control pad, a keyboard... more or less the same shit. Suzo 500 is the way to go for smups fans.

If I had to choose I'd probably prefer a bat top JLF in my asshole with shaft cover because metal is cold usually.

Suzo is a bit advanced for me right now, I'll work on it though.

Does anyone outside of Europe also think a Suzo 500 is great? I might get one.. does it have the same mounting hole pattern as a Happ? ATM the Ls-32 is my favorite stick.

Forget it. Japanese players will not use any arcade control that has not been made in their country. Americans might me interested. I haven't seen much interest about Suzos here in Europe either. People are interested in the T-stik (magnetic stick) and japanese controls instead. You cannot appreciate something if you ignore it. These sticks also have the handicap that they are made for steel and mounting on thick wood requires some extra work, so many people prefer not to deal with these issues. You have to do this:

which is a good thing, because the height of the stick is reduced and it feels more confortable:

Apart from this, you have to made your own dustwasher  out of a piece of plastic from a cd storage box, for instance.

The Suzo sticks are somewhat tricky to mount in a standard cabinet panel as well, but it can be done with some distances like I did in my EGRET II:

Combined with a custom shaft, it can use Sanwa/Seimitsu balls to look even better:

You still have to use that trademark "neck" from the Suzo shaft for your custom ones:

Does Grooviegamegear still sell shaft replacements for the Suzo? I've been looking at their webpage and I no longer see them. They had shafts with different heights for wood and metal, and different balltops, including rugged ones, which can be nice for extra grip.

My ESPGALUDA score was done with a minty LS-32. I think I would perform better with my SUZO though. But the timing is so precise in that game, that the buttons are just as important.

This shaft I'm using was custom made by a guy at a Swedish forum. But the true pioneer of these custom shafts is the joystick wizard Kowal. The balls doesn't really stick to these custom shafts when you screw them on, so you need to use some pipe tape to make 'em stick, or glue. But glued balls suck. :P I could probably get the plans for the custom shafts if someone wants to have them made locally. I think I'll get four more done for myself, so I can put Suzo 500's in my 2L-panels as well. Yes, they are that good.

Don't most of the jap cabs have Sanwa JLFs standard? This would mean most of the pro/superplay runs are done with Sanwa sticks not Semitsu right?

Or does LS-32 come standard in some jap cabs??

Why on earth would they play something in their arcades when they can buy an arcade stick internationally and assemble it with no online tutorials?

I'd like to check out the Suzo sometime but it isn't an accessible stick at all. Maybe if someone made them for HRAPs, then I'd bother.

I am ordering two complete sets of LS-32-01 sticks and also appropriate buttons for my Super Neo 29 and my Neo 25.

I want to make sure that i get all of the appropriate parts and I'm not totally sure what they come with by default. Do I need to special order an optional restrictor plate or anything for shmups?

I'll be ordering from AkihabaraShop.jp.

Thanks for any info!
