A company that processes transactions for MC here in Arizona got hax0red and 40 million. (yes, 40 MILLION) MC card numbers and their expiration dates stolen from their database. No need to panic, remember you can dispute any unauthorized charges with the bank that issued the card. But just so you feel safe, go and check your statement online or over the phone ASAP. And please be nice to the reps that answer your call. Remember it's not their fault, but some loser haxx0r kids with nothing else to do.

Just read it in the paper today.

Glad he's got a Visa,

Not just Mastercard...

From CNN.com:
Of the cards involved, 13.9 million were MasterCard-branded cards, which include Maestro and Cirrus, and 22 million were Visa cards, said Visa spokeswoman Rhonda Bentz.

Amex cards were affected also.

I work for Mastercard

It was not Mastercards fault, it was a company based out of Atlanta called Card systems or something similar.

Fascinating.

There are no weird charges on my card yet. Hopefully Visa check cards were uneffected. Money disappearing from my checking account, that'd be a real fucking disaster.

Wow, I'm not sure which upsets me more... the fact that Mastercard got hacked, or the fact that you just used the word "hax0red" instead of "hacked."

In all honesty I do not expect the culprit to use the CC's this early. That would be too risky and prove his guilt. If any fraudalent purchases are made on any cards on the list of the 40 million the culprit will be pinned down with ease.

Its likely that somehow the info will be spread across a whole network of foreign agents who indulge in such activities. So expect crap to happen around Xmas or other peak periods.

Tangible goods require a valid address, so most if not all tangible items will not be charged to your card, more likely online services, downloads etc.

Strange, that is not the exact same article I quoted from. When I got that quote, it was the top story on CNN.com, now it's completely vanished from the front page altogether.

It always creeps me out when they 'edit' news stories

I went there earlier expecting a big headline news story and I couldn't find anything... hence why I asked here. Yeah, news stories suddenly being edited is a little creepy... :?
