Cho Ren Sha 68K - won't run full speed on my laptop
Cho Ren Sha 68K - won't run full speed on my laptop
I'm using a Compaq Presario CQ50z-100, and ever since I got it, I've been unable to play a round of Cho Ren Sha 68K. It works, but it only runs at a fraction of its speed, which for me translates to "fuck this, I'm not playing it."
At first I thought it was just the OS it shipped with (Vista, aka VistASS). Then I downgraded to XP, and that still didn't change a thing.
Is there any way to get CRS to run at 100% on this laptop, or will I never see that again until I get a new laptop?
If it helps, here's the specs of my laptop (aka, please permaban me because my laptop, by everyone's stingy PC standards, is criminally horrible):
- Windows XP Pro SP3 (32-bit, I believe)
- AMS Sempron S1-40, 2 GHz
- 896 MB of RAM
- NVidia GeForce 8200M G
-- Driver version: 185.85
-- Stream processors: 8
-- Graphics clock: 400 MHz
-- Processor clock: 800 MHz
-- Memory clock: 675 MHz (1350 MHz data rate)
-- Memory interface: 64-bit
-- Memory: 512 MB
-- Video BIOS version: 62.77.2F.00.07
-- IRQ: 22
-- Bus: FPCI

Yes, and that was as effective as shouting at my laptop.
Oh! And mods, I was gonna delete this thread and remake it in Hardware. If it belongs there, just move this thread.

Re: Cho Ren Sha 68K - won't run full speed on my laptop
I personally don't think it does, exactly
Re: Cho Ren Sha 68K - won't run full speed on my laptop
Cho Ren Sha 68K is a finicky program, sound tears even on XP for me.
Re: Cho Ren Sha 68K - won't run full speed on my laptop
Just get an X68k emulator and get X68k version - works wonders
I didn't even know there was a windows version

CRS68K windows version works fine on a Pentium 3 500Mhz under win2k. I just tried it under win7rc on my fast PC and it won't run smoothly though (it doesn't run slow, but it hiccups regularly). Looks like an OS issue. I could never get the game to work under the emulator, the controls were always messed up for some reason.
Re: Cho Ren Sha 68K - won't run full speed on my laptop
Can someone please link to a 68K emulator that's easy to setup?

Sound tearing happens for me too on Win7rc (and Vista), I just run it in win95 compatibility mode and it's fixed.Ed Oscuro wrote:Cho Ren Sha 68K is a finicky program, sound tears even on XP for me.
Works just fine on win7rc for me. I've played this on 4 different computers and 4 different OS and I've never had any issues with this game besides the sound tearing.ED-057 wrote:CRS68K windows version works fine on a Pentium 3 500Mhz under win2k. I recommend 5th link from top - It's the English version. Don't forget the boot/bios roms; google is your friend

Re: Cho Ren Sha 68K - won't run full speed on my laptop
This happens on a lot of newer machines. I swear it's the graphics card, probably something to do with the DirectX 5-era calls Cho Ren Sha is using for it's drawing...
But yeah, an x68k emu is the way to go here. Also, try running it on Linux in Wine.

Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.
Re: Cho Ren Sha 68K - won't run full speed on my laptop
A little argument I just got into led me to say this:
It's not me running shit in the background. The way my computer is right now, if I were to plug it in and start up any Touhou game or any emulator, it will run fine. Closing every other process will not make CRS run any faster.

Re: Cho Ren Sha 68K - won't run full speed on my laptop
i would of suggested using task manager to run the game using only 1 processor but since u r not using a multi core processor it wont apply.
i read on a website that there is a option in the bios which fixes slow framerates when the PC has enough horsepower to run games at normal speed but ive lost the link but u could try asking a tech forum which command it is. Other then that all i can guess at is vsynch

Actually they're up at the game's website but I know nothing about X68, at least not enough to get them to work.ZOM wrote:http://www.geocities.jp/winx68khighspeed/emphatic wrote:Can someone please link to a 68K emulator that's easy to setup?

Laptops are always a pain in the ass. Try disabling any hardware power saving options (Cool'n'Quiet on AMD processors) in the BIOS and see if that helps.
Re: Cho Ren Sha 68K - won't run full speed on my laptop
You just need to drop boot.rom, ipl_cg.dat, iplrom.dat and cgrom.dat into the same folder where winx68khighspeed resides. IIRC you don't even need a font map.lgb wrote:Actually they're up at the game's website but I know nothing about X68, at least not enough to get them to work.ZOM wrote:http://www.geocities.jp/winx68khighspeed/emphatic wrote:Can someone please link to a 68K emulator that's easy to setup?

Btw. is there a tate option?
It seems you can configure the keys to rotate by 90°. But I haven't figured out how to rotate the screen by 90°. Anyone knows? Is it possible to configure the scan lines, like 100%,50%...

CRS68K is a vertizontal game. I don't see why you'd want a tate option...THE wrote:Btw. is there a tate option?

This ONLY works for X68000, right? Because I tried those settins in the win version and it did not work.Magic Knight wrote:There is on the X68000 version at least:THE wrote:Btw. is there a tate option?

Re: Cho Ren Sha 68K - won't run full speed on my laptop
Because I want to play in on my Egret 3 in tate, I bought the E3 mostly for CRS68K and Raiden IVDanbo Daxter wrote:CRS68K is a vertizontal game. I don't see why you'd want a tate option...THE wrote:Btw. is there a tate option?

And it's not a vertizontal, it was made with both tate and yoko in mind.
The x68k version runs fine with tate, thanks for the tip

Does a working X68000 emulator for DOS exist? Preferably with command line rom loading.
Edit: Just remembered AdvanceMESS.
