I.E. - blu ray drives- with a good resolution and a solid BR drive- how would a BR disc look compared to say- a PS3?
So- lets talk about home theater PC setups

That's what my wife and I do. PS3 for Blu Ray / DVD, XBOX 1 for all other files. XBMC will send 1080i out your original XBOX.Aleanil wrote:I used to use an Xbox running XBMC for a media center
i disagree...i have my PC and PS3 connected to my HDTV...both via HDMI....the PC crushes the PS3 for media playback.....watching stuff on the PC looks considerably better.....especially DVD and AVI's....AVI's look like ass on the ps3 but look crisp and almost DVD quality with the PCneorichieb1971 wrote:Buy a low end PC to do PC crap and buy a PS3 to do everything else.
People can knock PS3 for its gaming qualities, but its video and audio qualities are 2nd to none. You can even use your PC to media stream stuff across to the PS3 and to any other wireless devices in the house if you want. Its a cool feature.
Up to you though. I just don't see any point in specialist PC's under the TV etc.

the PS3 has really weird black level/contrast issues with a lot of stuff....like it has trouble with dark scenes.....
TBH, if i had a more powerful PC(GPU anyways) and a BR drive i would just sell the PS3.....i mainly use it to watch some 1080p stuff my PC cant handle and blurays....for anything 720p and below the PC wins hands down
just speaking from my experiences tho.....
i dont really understand streaming stuff with a PS3 and transcoding stuff when you could just watch it on the same screen with the PC and cut out the PS3 altogether.....
i can try...but all i have is a shit cybershot camera.....its not good for detailed shots.....neorichieb1971 wrote:Would you be willing to post pics of your HTPC vs your PS3 with the same video content?
I'd be interested to see it. This argument means nothing without facts.
