Great suggestion! Besides the ones mentioned, Xexex, Salamander 2, and Darius 2 are good choices imo.mikwuyma wrote:Gradius 3
Although a dragon week might be worth giving up hori week for.

Well I'd gladly vote for it, and I'm pretty sure others would too.mikwuyma wrote:Gradius 3 (I don't think anyone wants to play this game).
Agreed, but is he even around anymore?mikwuyma wrote:If someone other than Zebra Airforce did the banners for this year's STGT, I would be offended.
The only downside to this is that it might not give you enough time to really try the games and make an educated vote. Although typical voting reasons are pretty asinine anyway, so it's probably not an issue.MR_Soren wrote:How about we have 1 voting/practice week for the whole contest, followed by five weeks of games? Announce a vote winner at the start of each week? I could handle voting if it won't prevent me from playing.
Yeah, probably. Fall just wouldn't be fall without me swearing at shmups I don't like because I broke a promise to myself and signed up again. Ayanami mentioned something about resurrecting the Great Lakes Avengers (my STGT '07 team), but I don't know if there's any interest from the rest of the team. I don't think anybody else from the team participated last year except me and him.MR_Soren wrote:bkk, davey, and crithit... let's destroy?
I can just reuse my code from last year, so doing it again is no big deal, even if I don't participate as a player.dex wrote:Of course I'll do the scoreboard prog.I should be able to do registration and update the scoreboard for each week. Dex is willing to make a scoreboard program, so keeping the scoreboard updated shouldn't be a problem.
I can handle the voting, but I would rather not if someone else is willing to volunteer.
Someone needs to post the results. Davey posted the results last year, and he did a great job, but I haven't contacted him about it yet.
If you want I can do the result posting, too, if Davey doesn't want to do that, that is.
Also, it was the final game of STGT '06.mikwuyma wrote:Guwange: Oops I missed a couple of enemies, RESTART.
But of course!MR_Soren wrote:bkk, davey, and crithit... let's destroy?
As ive just started playing shmups all i play are doujins atm so a doujin only tourey would be great 4 me. And the less touhou the better as i have to use my keyboard to play em due to a crappy pad.Aru-san wrote:I'm thinking of starting a 4-week doujin tournament sometime after STGT. The problem now is figuring out which doujin shmups to use. Of course, I'm not doing all Touhou games because I want this to be a doujin tournament where all other games can be used, not a Touhou tournament.

1. I don't think people are that tired of cave: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?t=26325mikwuyma wrote:About Cave: There are two problems with Cave week.
1. I think a lot of people who were in the tourney last year are tired of Cave games.
2. I can't think of three good choices for a week-long tourney.

Has Border Down been emulated now?
Hori week....
The second loop of Progear is utterly miserable and because I'm poor at scoring the only way I can get a better score than my score in 2008 is to get a 2-ALL and well, frankly, that's just...GaijinPunch wrote:Good God no ESPRade. oh, I'll get a terrible score. It's one of the few Cave games I like and have yet to clear. Stage 5 rams it in my ass.Danbo Daxter wrote:The second loop of Progear is utterly miserable and because I'm poor at scoring the only way I can get a better score than my score in 2008 is to get a 2-ALL and well, frankly, that's just...GaijinPunch wrote:Good God no ESPRade. I have to agree with this, anyone who thinks they are going to spend half the game milking bosses is in for a surprise. The first couple of boss fights are ripe for milking, but anything after that is a serious challenge to stay alive due to having to dodge through the increasingly difficult spreads without holding fire to slow movement.moozooh wrote:I'm completely baffled people are still insisting that milking bosses in ESPRaDe is necessary to get high scores. Of all 43 millions possible in this game, boss milking — as opposed to doing them the normal way — can get you at most 10-12 (I'm being really generous here, realistically it's more like 4-5). That's still over 30 million left to work with, and the highest scores on this board are all sub-30. For the tournament — as reflected by the scoreboard — it's highly unlikely over 3 or 4 participants that know the game like the back of their hand will ever get as much as 20. And that should be doable before stage 5.1 boss by scoring only in the main stages.
I mean, if you can't get it right everywhere but the boss fights, how is it a boss milking problem?
