First Japan-made XNA game, 240 points and a nice looking Doujin Shoot'em up.

Has anyone tried it yet ??

Downloading now.

Edit: Uh, ok. It's a doujin game. This means we might end up seeing more of this type. Here's the issues I've noticed with the game after playing with it for 10 minutes:

- The character voices are WAY too loud.
- There's a strange border around the left and top of the screen
- The demo expires before the first boss appears, and all the enemies in the first stage are the same, apart from one larger one.
- No title screen or intro screen music, music doesn't start until about 5 seconds into the first stage.

I'm not sure if I'll bother with this one, since I don't like horizontal shooters and since there's much better doujin shooters out there. Still, interesting to see it on the XNA though.

Whoa, a Japanese doujin shooter with cheapo 3D effects and cute anime girls, riveting stuff.

Though I doubt I'll ever play much of this game when I could pop far superior hori loli-shooters into my 360 at a moment's notice, I'll probably download it because the heroine has a cute little tie and, better yet, a magic wand. These features alone, I feel, warrant a purchase. I'm really only half-joking here, which alarms even me.

Incidentally, I've never heard of XNA until now, kind of a cool idea if you ask me.

Do you have to be online while playing it as well? Or can I download the game, disconnect and fire it up whenever?

An XNA shooter available in the UK? I'll certainly give it a try - although I'm put off by the anime cuteness - give me agressive machines of war any day...

Not something I'd sink hours into, but it's decent and priced fairly.

An XNA shooter available in the UK?
since recently, yes. If you click on the XNA info page linked above you can see for which regions the game has been submitted by the programmer. A developer can decide to submit to the USA only, but why should he ?

Yeah - I spotted that on the info page. I guess it was a rhetorical question I was asking. :)

It's certainly good to see devs making their stuff multi-region...

unfortunately, as of now (AFAIK), you cant play them while offline. you HAVE to be online to fire them up (even if you paid for it), after that, you can go offline if you want... but still is a hazzle to have to be online just to fire up the game.

im tempted to buy this one... but that lil issue puts me off on buying XBL-CG games.

In US dollars, 240pts. would be the equivalent of 3 bucks.

Just been playing the trail and will hopefully get it shortly.

Initial impressions are that it is ok, not great. Sprite is too big for the main character and I'm having trouble determining exactly where the hitbox is. The enemy repitition isn't too much of a problem so far but I hope that it gets more varied as it goes on.

The enemies that spawn on top of you come with a fair warning as the take a second or so to become 'hitable', just move back slightly and you hvae no problems.

I've made the boss on the trial but haven't yet taken her down. Her patterns were pretty cool but I ended up dying due to hitbox location problems.

I hope that this is the start of an XNA shmup flood. If only 1 in 10 are worth playing I would still be a happy chappy, especially at these prices. Lets keep out fingers crossed for some ABA Games love.

saw this last night and gave it a try. It was kinda cool until the enemies that spawn behind you.I will give it a few more tries tonight.

But in the end it made me realize how good DS really was.

I'm actually surprised Crescendo Symphony is first jpn release, I didn't piece together until now I hadn't played any community games from that part of the world.

This. It was entertaining - in a very boring, hypnotising way - up until that point. Still, I'll probably lay down the cash for it, if only to show support on principle.

The hitbox seems to be in roughly the same place as that in Deathsmiles, btw. As a result, it could really do with being visible.

As a warning to those of you who haven't splashed cash yet, as far as I can tell there is only one level in the game. When you kill the boss it then loops with more bullets.

I'm hoping that something new will pop out after I've played through a few loops but I'm doubtful.

Not going to happen.

Unlike XBLA or retail games, all of the Indie Games (as they are now called) are unrated. This complicates things. You can read more about it here:
http://forums.xna.com/forums/p/28483/195985.aspx
http://forums.xna.com/forums/p/19178/101196.aspx#101196

Bottom line: Yes, it's a pain, but it's not going to change.

Honestly though...why would you run your 360 offline anyway? Grab a third-party wireless bridge for $50 or less and fix that problem. That's what I did...

It's all fine and dandy until the 360 2 comes out and they take the 360 servers down.

Which won't be for another five years, I know, but it's guaranteed to be an issue eventually.

Also, hidden control. LB slows you to half speed. 'Great for loop 3.

^^^^ this...

also, what happens if for some reason, you windup without an internet connection one day, or you take your lovely console to a place where theres no internet either, and you wanna play some of those XBL-CG that you PAID for?...

i understand why they are doing it, but they should come up with a way of circumvent that... having to be online to fire up a game is BULLSHIT. Say, the game happened to have racial or xenophobic content?... they SHOULD TAKE IT DOWN from their servers, i agreee, but if you paid for it, is still your problem, you have a license to play it, and you should play it whenever you want, with or without internet connection. what im trying to say here, is that they should somehow put some kinda filter before releasing those games... i know for a fact that those games are tested by the comunity b4 being "unleashed"... well, they should take that into account, or something!.

thats what makes the desicion of buying XBL-CG games for me... the games can be good, but i dont like to be online just to do something i could ver well do while offline.

PS im sorry for the offtopic.

While i think the whole debate about being offline or not is silly, since most the world runs on broadband. With dial-up being barely used anymore, you don't have to connect to do anything and in those rare times your connection goes down is the first thing you're going to be thinking is i want to play crescendo symphony?

But, i do agree that the DRM is an issue that should be fixed. As of now MS is butt-fucking us in the future-present.

exactly.

now, i wasnt talkin about this game in particular... i "made the mistake" of buying like 3-4 XBL-CG games in a batch, before i got the info that you had to be online to paly them (i had some XBLA games in the console b4, so i made the assumption...), and while i know there are plenty of other games to play and shit, sometimes you dont wanna play the bunch you have, but that ONE that is there waiting for you... in those cases, you end up playing something else (or nothing at all), yeah, but, if you paid, and the console is working, why cant you play it just like the others?... thats my whole pont here.

I'm not worried about this.

Any non-EA Xbox 1 game can still be played online, and Microsoft has not mentioned anything at any point about ending service. I am fairly certain that this is because they use generic Xbox Live servers for matching--not any specific Xbox 1 servers--and that as long as Xbox Live exists, this will not change. This, by the way, is one of the reasons that XBL is not free!

As long as Microsoft is producing consoles and supporting Xbox Live, this should not be an issue. If MS has their way, it should be a long time. And even if they do end service eventually: this is only the beginning of Creators Club. Hopefully it will last for a long time, and become prominent enough that they will adopt a Steam-like "if the servers go down for good, the need to authenticate will go away" policy.
