Treasure interview, new shmup
No, no, no! Isn't the Xbox 360 picking up in sales due to the recent JRPGs? And for Treasure to put on hold their shooter when the other shmup developers (Moss, Konami, 5pb, Cave) are putting ports of their games on 360 feels like it makes no sense.
First Treasure used the porting of Ikaruga as an excuse to delay the game, now it's due to Sin & Punishment 2. Isn't the 360 shooter getting any love?

"PUT THE GAME OUT IN ARCADES FOR FUCK'S SAKE"
I guess they are smarter than that. Cave is the last dinosaur sticking to its "let's keep it ghetto" attitude
"And does Maegawa really think that S&P2 is going to sell to the vast majority of the Wii demographic?"
ALL their games developed for the Nintendo platforms sold well. Even their overprized rom (S&P1) on VC raked in a lot of money. Why should this be any different?

They are a business and have to produce games that will actually sell. And why not make a pure RSG port? Even that would sell like hotcakes, given how much reputation this game has even outside of the shmup community. The way I see it making a RSG port would be a very easy way of making a quick buck (although, of course, I have no idea how much more complicated it is to port a game from the Saturn to another console compared to the Dreamcast).
I was thinking more about consoles than genres. I'm sure the return on investment was much better selling Sin & Punishment on the Virtual Console than porting Ikaruga to XBLA. That must have caused them to reconsider their plans for Silvergun. I wouldn't be surprised if RSG instead appeared on the Wii at some point.
treasure in the same place it was? Probably not... But still treasure represent a marked, diligent and (perhaps most amazingly) consistent niche of the development community.
Motivations change and vary ... personal preferences not withstanding the point is it will be a good game. I think most people are smiling.
I would not expect to see rsg 1 ports... I just don't think its in their nature for that title ...
economics may play a secondry role in that but I have no idea ... I just don't expect it to be done - but I was suprised when ikaruga made it onto on xbla and gc so you never know...
... but maybe nostalgia will tug at the strings enough to make it happen ... what with all the legit soft/hardware getting old...
Anyway, personally, have to say I'd be 5 times more interested in a rsg project ... but sin and punishment is not bad news ...

No, but I have eyes and sarcasm on my side.RHE wrote:You have access to their financial data?![]()
Back on topic: The latest public interview with Treasure was in Gameside last month, and is in translated form at gamengai. It's specifically about shooting games, and they mentioning nothing in future tense other than Sin & Punishment 2.

Over half of your posts consist of complaining about region locking. Get over it.MADEIRA STEVE88 wrote:Yep, and i cant play any of the New SHMUP'S on 360 because i have a PAL console and cant justify buying a Jap one.GaijinPunch wrote:...as a crack whore in a dark alley.MADEIRA STEVE88 wrote:Guess its dead then

Agreed. Isn't it interesting how people on this forum will drop hundreds, even thousands, for a single PCB and $600 for a Blu-Ray player masquerading as a game console but it's the absolute end of the world to purchase an import 360? Just goes to show who the real gamers are and who comprise the legion of idiot fanbots. I mean seriously people....are you actually going to post on a shmup only forum insisting that there's no reason to buy a 360 when its library consists of Raiden Fighter Aces, Raiden 4, Shikigami 3, Senko no Ronde, Mamoru-kun, Death Smiles, DDP, Otomedius, Ketsui, Shooting Love 200X, Mushihime Futari, and more to come? Or that region locks are really going to deter you from enjoying shmups? Funny how nobody bitches about regional locks on PS2 games, or old Saturn titles, or any other console for that matter....Elixir wrote:Over half of your posts consist of complaining about region locking. To be fair, getting around the region locks on those consoles, and most others, is easier than on the 360. That said, I own both a J360 and a US one (but no PS3 or Wii, at least not yet).Zero Gunner wrote:Funny how nobody bitches about regional locks on PS2 games, or old Saturn titles, or any other console for that matter....

Besides Ikaruga XBLA, did Treasure develop anything else for the 360? No? I still don't get why they would rather cancel the 360 shooter when the other shooter developers are working on a port of their arcade games. The other posts here made are right: Treasure should make an arcade version first, then a 360 port. Then they don't have to worry about not making enough money for it.
It seems Wii, and the Nintendo handheld seems to be the home for Treasure's money making for now. Besides working on those shooters, they made those Bleach games published by Sega.
