I do use them a small amount - always at several set places. I'd say each level there's between four and six points where I use them (at least from level's one-to-three) and then at least a couple of times on each boss. Hard to describe where - watch my Xbox Mode vid on the world leaerboard, though you could probably learn a lot more from the guys in the top ten fields. Have you seen how the guy in the No.1 spot milks the level one boss with charged shots?
kemical wrote:I tend to use vulcan + M the most..
I can't seem to get past the 1-3 boss anymore, keep making lots of stupid mistakes, I'll have to try the laser on that one.
Again - watch some replays from the world leaderboard and you'll see that downing the first two forms of that boss is easy - just get in super glose and you can down him super fast... (I'm sure you know, but any score on the leaderboard with a red logo by the side of it has a replay you can watch instantly).

kemical wrote:actually I seem to average 2 - 2.8m on 1-1 now.. I keep only getting 109 shot down though (98.1%) can't figure out what I'm missing.
I just finally got to 1-4 again thanks to blue laser.
That stumped me for ages! To get 100% you have to take out the four little gun turrets on the boss' second form. They get you the last couple of percent.

I'm managing 2.891 mill for 1-1 on occaision now. I'd love to hit 2.9...

awesome! I've always assumed when the boss explodes those just get destroyed too, that makes a lot of sense now, I need to go play 8)

I watched some of the current #1 spot (100m) replay yesterday, it hurt my brain.. precise with the movements and setting up for where enemies come from, it looks like they might use a pad.

Glad it helped. I expect to see you improve your hi-score soon!

Well - I actually hit 2.9 million on 1-1 last night - messed everything else up apart from that though.

I emailed UFO Interactive (they published Raiden III for the US) and asked if they had any plans on publishing Raiden IV as well.

I received this response:
UFO Interactive Customer Service wrote:Thank you for your inquiry.

We may release Raiden IV for Xbox360 only this summer.
I guess it's nice to see they are at least considering it.

That's an awfully strange sounding reply.

Well, E3 is coming soon. Maybe they'll announce something then.

Hopefully yes. As long there's a publisher (CyberFront again, maybe?)

Yeah - really quite odd. And companies often keep unconfirmed info fairly close to their chests, so it is rather encouraging that they are talking about it. could be a good sign.

Well why hasn't anyone updated this thread with the new UFO release info? This is the "official" Raiden 4 thread isn't it?

I agree. I may go ahead and create the "Unofficial Raiden 4 Thread" because official just sounds to rigid to me. Unofficial things flow nice and easy and its a relaxed and comfortable place for you to be.

I'm among the other 6-7 (or so) Toronto members that frequent here.
Anyway, I wonder if they'll make the US version region-free. Not only would that be more convenient for those w/ JP360s, but I don't want to have to download the other two ships AGAIN.

Isn't it as easy to post up the link as ask why somebody else hasn't?

See! Here's the link to the thread about the fact Raiden IV is getting a US release!

And maybe don't create an 'unofficial' thread. The last thing we need to do is split things further!

Ok no "unofficial thread" - good point on not splitting up this topic more than it already has been.

Cool - I see where you're coming from though, with the idea of an 'unofficial' one...

And welcome by the way! I see you're fairly new here, so I hate to make the first post I leave after yours say 'don't do this'. I'm nice - honestly!

I get the feeling that the Raiden IV boss names aren't really meant to refer to anything; Seibu and Moss probably just decided to play Alien Glossalalia for the names. (I didn't somehow spoil you when I revealed that my personal names for the Raiden series bosses were all from Goetic demons, did I? If you saw the relevant thread, anyway...That, and my using mythical creatures for the RFJ bosses—Cockatrice, Nue, Sluagh, Catoblepas, Barghest, etc....I really seem to have an inborn fondness for theme naming...) In fact, the Raiden III gallery only uses code numbers for the bosses. Things like GA-01 or thereabouts.

Now, if we could just find a way to extort out of Satou Gou the proper names for the st. 4 and 6 songs from R2...

Out of curiosity, regarding Volac at...er...Isdogaram at the end of st. 6...Does the first round version have the same moving vulcan attack that the second round version does? Looks like Moss has been taking notes from Raizing...

For the 1 weapon achievements do I have to use that 1 weapon only and no bombs/secondary? And would I have to start over if I accidentally get a diff color without shooting?

OMG I'm one HAPPY man!
I finally 1cc'd this game  (Arcade mode, original difficulty, 1st loop)
It was my first serious shmup experience, so it took me some time to actually learn how to play shmups.

AFAIK all Games on Demand are region locked. There may be some exceptions off course but it is not in this case.

Xbox Live Games on Demand can only be downloaded in the country they are hosted in. They have an IP tracker thingy, and even if you have a Japanese account in say, America, you can't download the games unless you're actually in Japan. There are very technical ways around it, which are mentioned elsewhere in the forum, but I personally don't consider it to be worth it.

Given that it is highly unlikely that any of the older jap shmups will ever get a release in PAL territories, can someone please explain to me the business reasons for region-locking games :?

Surely a few hundred more sales to die-hard shmup fans in the west is better then a few score more sales to those who can afford a second Japanese 360 . . .or is my reasoning way off ???

I suppose the dozy bastards at Microsoft have something to do with it

Elixir wrote:- Can I purchase Japanese-only games via the Games on Demand service using a JP account?

No. The games are IP locked, so you can't download them even if you have a JP console, JP account with points attached, and/or JP credit card attached as well. I've tried. It simply will not work. If you attempt to purchase via points, it will say "This content is not available in your current location.", and if you attempt to purchase with a credit card it'll just tell you the exact same thing.
From Elixir's post on the Xbox 360 in the hardware forum.

I'm not so sure if that's true for all regions though. I don't buy any games on demand but I've heard reports from people living in Japan who can buy games in the USA store:

http://www.gaijingamers.com/showthread.php?t=1886

People say that before they couldn't download American games, but now it works for some reason. No idea if it applies for the Japanese store as well.

I'm not sure if everyone saw the Shmups Twitter post about the LE being on sale for $20 at Best Buy. It seems that you can't get it online anymore but it might be worth looking around the store a bit. Just a heads up.
