There were 20+ people at my meet and I think everyone got a chance to play it quite a few times. I assume that there are a number of people who own the board who have done the same thing, probably a few times over(sven666, jonny5, Dave_K, etc.) so there are quite a few people who have access to the Ketsui boards in this community.
I'm not sure why people are doubting that the voters actually had or have access to it. I think most of the people on this forum are pretty open to letting people play their stuff and don't just keep their pcb's locked away in a cabinet to collect dust.

i host a meet every second saturday ....what fun are games if you cant share them with others?
shit...there are actually 3 copies of ketsui in ontario that i know of....
malik11's buddy has one( thats how i played it before i bought it), drakon bought a copy after he played it at my house( and hes not even really into shmups....pretty good indication of just how good ketsui is imo), and i have it....
this game is not as uber -rare as the haters seem to make out

This is one of the things that sets GWs and MM apart. All sorts of possibilities open up when you can tap reflect or hold down to a split sec before the GHB. GW2 is a little more obvious about it, but all GWs are the same in that regard. Once you start a reflect you've basically planned your shield strategy for the entire stage. Many parts require a reflect as soon as it's recharged.
They should've joined stages 5-7 and maybe added a little filler between the bosses. Item volcanoes were the coolest. Oh yeah, and completely wrecking those thick patterns felt a lot cooler than the scattered stuff in 1. Visual overload.
Yeah, I agree that MM is just way more flexible and that GW2 could have combined the last few levels. One thing I liked about GW1 though is that I felt like it struck a good balance between dodging and shielding. I love the floating city level for that reason (even though I suck at it =)). I just wish the last boss had been either a little easier or shorter.. the thing completely wrecks me! Otherwise I think I could have a 1cc with a little more practice.

To be fair, I no longer have access to it, and haven't for about 4 or 5 months - £600 when unemployed => game gets sold, no matter how great it is. Until I find a buyer for one of my kidneys, natch.
I'VE GOT KETSUI DEATH LABEL AND HAVE NEARLY UNLOCKED EXTRA STAGE, DOES THAT COUNT?

My first impression was that this forum was surprisingly full of posers, but perhaps I'm just one of the unlucky who's never played ketsui, and the forum is surprisingly rich and/or sophisticated and connected. It make me want to have a shmupmeet.

I don't own it, but providing I had the cash available I'd have no problem spending £600 on a ketsui board. I mean, many people barely bat an eyelid at spending >£15,000 on a car - now that to me is completely pointless; and all in the name of posing!

to play ketsui you need to be a seriously high-brow individual. we highlight this by doning top hats

That's the whole thing I miss about arcades and the biggest reason I decided to keep the board even though I won't have a cab to play it on for at least another 8 months.
I imagine Ketsui will possibly be even higher next year since a home port of it will exist. Hell, if Ketsui Death Label is any indication I'll probably even vote for it. *shrugs* Seems like a damn solid game.
That said, 11 Cave games? 11? Did you kids just start playing shmups in the late 90s or something?
And no Thunder Force? Give. me. a. fucking. break.
And anything with "Pachi" in the title being above Batsugun is fecking blasphemy.
Not sure how I feel about Garegga being #1. Sure beats Gradius V and DDP, but, eh... I never could get into that one. Then again, its one of those that requires almost all of your time to really get into, so... *shrugs*

in seriousness, 1.0/1.5 versions notwithstanding, cave have released 20 shmup titles now. so you're talking about 50% of their games are highly popular. raizing only released 8 games, so even if every single one ended up in the top 25, they would never have as high a tally. if only four raizing titles ended up in the top 25 that would be the same ratio. and as cave are one of the only companies who still support the genre, that number is likely to grow. treasure are the only real hardhitters with 3/3 and a cool 100%
RegalSin wrote:Videogames took my life away like the Natives during colonial times.
One of the things about the top25 I don't really care for so much is the hivemind, but I let it affect me to some degree too. Next year is definitely all console / Apogee PC.

Working Designs put a Treasure logo on the Silpheed: The Lost Planet box. They might've had something to do with that. Bangai-O games were also eligible this year.
Gradius V is a Konami game because it's good and it's good because it's Gradius. They get 50% credit at most.
Then you need to go back and play some of the classics from the late 80s/early-mid '90s.
TWIN COBRA AND EXED EXES BAYBEE
Darius II also
Don't make him play Twin Cobra too much check pointing. I'd recommend Battle Shark too if it didn't have checkpoints. But yes play Exed Eyes and Gunsmoke, Vulgus,Raiden 1and2, Exesius, Tokio, Varth, etc.
I did great so much water and milk that I threw up when I was little.
