I'm not a fan of Sub Terrania, but Ranger-X is helluva awesome, I don't know what people are complaining about with the controls, even with a 3 button pad it's smooth and responsive.
You can also get through the majority of the game without using special weapons, so not finding extra ones shouldn't ruin it for you (although they are all cool).
As for that secret weapon in the sky scraper level...

I'm gonna give Sub-terrania and Ranger X a trial. As in I will play them for some time. The one that pisses me off the most, gets traded in.
In my mind, Sub-terrania looks like a likely candidate for trade in.
I'll probably keep Pitfall, but knowing how I like to do things, it will probably mean that it will be traded in too. Well, I take that back, Krusty's fun house will probably be traded in instead of Pitfalll.
