Sound chips are encrypted and not dumped yet. No sound for you, unless you play the Saturn or Arcade versions.

The mame rom is only as good as what you got. Buy the Saturn version. Awesome game.

When buying a Batsugun PCB, there both original JPN region and bootlegged versions to beware of. I've got a bootlegged Batsugun PCB and it displays "For Japan Only" on the main title screen along with an original Toaplan one as well. There aren't any distguishing marks on it compared to an original Toaplan produced one with the Toaplan logo and "Made in Japan" phrase printed directly on the PCB itself.

Some second-hand arcade PCB shops have unknownly sold a bootlegged Batsugun PCB to a buyer thinking that it was an original one -- it's always a good idea to get a pic of the actual Batsugun PCB to see if it is genuine or a boot before plunking down your hard-earned $$$.

A Batsugun PCB with both regular and Special Version roms soldiered togther and switchable via a toggle region switch (without the need to swap game version Roms) are out there in the wilds. ^_~

Dogyuun is also broken in MAME, as are a couple of other Toaplan titles.

Good news is, Saturns are very cheap and an Action Replay is only $26 (removes region lock + 1/4 RAM expansion).

However, expect to pay $80-100 for the game.

Worth every penny though, awesome game.

Also, Toaplan games have upcoming rom fixes in MAME. So there will be sound in all games, it's just a matter of time now.

Epic fail. If there was a way of fixing the MAME ROM don't you think somebody would have posted it before now?

No, the decapping project didn't exist until recently. Now that they have access to the proper info, there will be sound "shortly".

So, more like epic win.

I've only played the arcade version once or twice a long time ago... So while I can't say how accurate it is, I can say that the Saturn version is excellent and well worth the money as far as being a quality game goes.

I don't think there's anything wrong with "the ROM," unless there's a ROM hidden inside a decapped chip (from what I read on The Guru's site it does seem like they're interested in data tables in the chip), er, highly technical bzns in hurr

You can probably get a JP Saturn off YJP for under $50, so I don't know why you wouldn't. Guess it's just a matter of how badly you want to play the game properly.

They do come up cheap here quite often mate, and a lot cheaper than ebay. And I have a tonne of Saturn shooters I can lend you. I never seem to hit my Saturn anymore.
