I usually enjoy myself while playing some RPGs, but totally hate myself afterwards for wasting a full work week or two on them. Furthermore, I can't play them now in anything but japanese because it makes me feel better that I'm not completely wasting my time. I'm enjoying Dragon Quest 8 very much right now, but oh boy, what a deep hole did I crawl into. 40 hours into it and no end in sight.

"They should at least make 100K to have a good life"

I can't get into RPG's though. I used to play final fantasy 7 all the time as a kid but I don't have the patience anymore
No worries here, I'm not the type to take such things personally for whatever reason

Anyway Shadow Tower Abyss isn't your typical Japanese RPG; it's a 3D first person action rpg with heavy exploring elements & a very "authentic" atmosphere. Too bad it never saw the light of day outside Japan, even though it's pretty western styled.

Unpopular PC-Rpgs? How about Gothic 2? ^_^
To quote an old review from rpggamer.com:
I guess you could say that Gothic 2 is a tragic hero. It scores high marks for innovation, for execution, and for variety, and then loses them all due to overlooking the fact that not everyone has 512MB of memory. Even with the lag, it was still a fun game with inventive ideas and an attention to detail, enough to persevere to the end. But I'm sorry, when your time is dominated by periods of waiting for the hard drive to stop thrashing and the lag to pass, all the enjoyment is sucked out of the game. Gothic 2 simply asks more then most PCs can give. If you can get it to run well, you'll find a worthwhile RPG experience, but chances are it will not be worth the frustration.

Crappy graphics and ingame-hookers. How can you go wrong?

This sounds like it could be fun, but I'd say restrict it to either bonafide classics nearly everyone can get behind, new games that aren't PC intensive (my home computer DOES only have 512MB RAM, lol), or a combination of both. I suspect not everyone will participate from week to week consistently, but it might be an interesting exercise in rediscovering an old friend (SMB3, for example), or getting to know a new game you've never played before.

This is almost like a book club except without the smelly fat middle aged women.

I'll play along but please consider something that is free or at least able to be emulated. If you pick some cryptic store bought PC game, hardly anyone will be able to play it.
Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.

you know "my friend" says that there are other means to get games you don't own.

Well, my friend says that these so called 'other means' should not be encouraged... Too bad I myself don't give a f*ck about it.
