Not sure what I think about the whole mess- other than what a poor attitude that Stuart guy has. Makes me want to throw away any issue he's had any part in (not really - overall I'm glad the magazine exists). I am just shocked at how that guy acts. Anyways- what is your take on that mess? I don't like the parts where he seems to be ragging on the readers and such- makes me think twice about snagging that magazine I think :/
Yeah- drama drama- but I'm just shocked to see interaction with members of a neat gaming mag end up like *that*.

I sorta like the mag but rarely buy it. I understand that in Europe (the UK specifically, since it's a British publication) personal computers were all the rage in the 8/16 bit days, but I just can't really bring myself to give a damn about those articles. I never had a Micro or a Sinclair or anything like that, and some issues are more than half old computer articles (or at least it feels like it). Still, I can't totally write off a retro gaming magazine, so I'm glad it's around.

I don't understand- I wouldn't hire someone like that at all. I don't want to see anybody get fired or wish ill upon anybody- but man does it make RG look pretty icky :/The n00b wrote:Yeah Stuart Campbell is like the Perez Hilton of the retro gaming/arcade enthusiast scene. In a way, he seems to be bringing them together... after all, now they can just rally around how much they dislike him.KindGrind wrote:Jesus, that's some drama right there.
So this is the type of brotherly love the ng forum is known for...

I'm about 3 pages into it. It all seems to come down to Stuart refusing to be diplomatic or politically correct about taking criticism. Why read the other few pages at that point except for a laugh? At the point where he's basically like; I know I'm being a twat, but your criticisms fall flat so I feel so inclined! That's where I'd just stop arguing with the reverend.
Sometimes I think maybe it's not a personality flaw but just a trait. He's a legend in his own mind, and people still put his words in glossy print, what's the use trying to break it down with him? He's probably having a great life and we're the jaded ones. I want to see Raiden 3 through these old fogey goggles he has that made him call it GOTY 2005.

That is Galactic Dancing
Stuart's a pussy for not registering at insomnia.ac, that's a fight I wanted to see. He's just a very sad, angry middle-aged man ranting on about crap he really doesn't know about any more.
Also look for the thread here where he didn't know what 'rank' was and started bitching about 'rank' being called 'rank' etc.

Hilarious joke. There's a difference between reviewing a series and reviewing a series which you've taken the time to understand, before coming to a conclusion. Apparently he just reviews things based on his opinion, after being appointed a certain task for a pay packet, and not his own observation. This is one reason why I don't read reviews.
The thread eventually progresses into nitpicking over trivial bullshit that only ends up diverting the attention away from the review itself, which is where I stopped reading. It's a case of someone doing a shitty performance, then laughing at the audience behind the curtains. Nothing can be done about it, but he'll continue provoking the shit out of ng.com users until the thread gets derailed and locked.
I could have easily ended up like him.

Hehe. He's always been conceited, boastful, arrogant and a *little* ignorant since when I read his stuff on Amiga Power. At the time, though, it could be done. Not anymore, in the internet era, when everybody can reach anybody and you WILL find someone that knows more than you and kicks your sorry ass.
That's what's happening, and it was bound to happen.

Yeah I don't think he gives a shit about text on a random forum... he's stiring up the flames for fun I think and b/c he can.Sometimes flamebaiting is just too obvious Wink
I mean you can't be serious?!
I mean I've been guilty of it on gamefaqs out of boredom ect. I've found neo-geo.com more hostile than any other place I've taken seriously forum wise.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?
NG.com has always been full of shitheads
but that's why it can get bloody fun, like thas topic there.
You people think Campbell's too cool to give it a damn, but if I were you... I wouldn't be too sure
he's always been very touchy and this stuff is surely driving him crazy, even if he'll always be too cool to admit it.
I keep seeing this "INTARNET IS SRS BUZINESS" like nobody means it, but you should stop thinking nineties and get a bit real.
Internet *can* be srs business, it's not like everything that is said on the internet is automatically shit because it's not the real deal, it's not printed or it's not said face-to-face. Everybody, especially videogame nerds is on the internet. Word of mouth on the internet can decree an economic success or a painful failure. Do you think that Death Smiles would've sold so many copies if it weren't for the internet hype across the world? Internet *can* make the difference, can save people jobs, can save companies. This is only a random example
Hostility towards the guy *can* lead to loss of credibility for RG, and for a paper magazine this is VERY bad, as they're already struggling against digital and free web information.
If I were his boss, I'd tell him to stop arguing like a 7 y/o spoiled brat, acknowledge the fact that the article was pish-poor (but it can happen, especially when you're facing a deadline and you aren't prepared) and tell him that it's the magazine he represents right now, not his face. Also I'd tell him to leave all that people be. If he hadn't answered like that, probably nobody would've cared about that topic. That's why I think that oh, he DOES give a damn

Then he gathers pace again:Don't tell me what I mean, you rude, ignorant, illiterate, arrogant, fucking cunt.
Most enjoyable as usual.

Massive fan of Stuart Campbell since the days he worked on Amiga Power. Would've probably been a big fan of his earlier work too if I'd been of an age where I read magazines.
Anyone forming an opinion on him without reading a good chunk of his work (particularly all the fallout with games companies objecting to his reviews of particularly poor games) is likely to get the wrong impression, especially like this where he's expressed an opinion in conflict with the poster's own.
I only wish his obsessiveness with being factually correct, morally right, highly opinionated, and not giving two hoots about upsetting people rubbed off on the rest of video games journalism - it might actually be interesting to follow again.
So yeah, Stu's one of the few reasons I'm proud to be British. RevStu for Prime Minister please.
