PS2-to-360 adapters (from Death Smiles thread)
I tried many adaptors and found up right and down worked and only 1 button. Useless.admith wrote:About a decent stick to be used with the Xbox360, I wonder if there is any PS2-360 adaptor, since I have an excellent custom made PS2 stick. I think it's a good solution and cheaper than the DS stick.
Any help?
Just buy a 360 arcade stick.
I have this one. However as I still lack a 360 myself, I haven't been able to give it a proper test, but it seemed to work just fine when playing some fighters on a friend's 360.admith wrote:About a decent stick to be used with the Xbox360, I wonder if there is any PS2-360 adaptor, since I have an excellent custom made PS2 stick. No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

Wow, that kinda looks too good to be true. That should work with a J-Pac as well I guess?Ghegs wrote:I have this one. However as I still lack a 360 myself, I haven't been able to give it a proper test, but it seemed to work just fine when playing some fighters on a friend's 360.

Thanks, Ghegs.
Some people here in Spain has bought exactly that adaptor to play Pro Evolution Soccer with the PS2 pad, and it seems to work fine.
The problem is the price...
I would buy the Death Smiles stick, but I hate japanese sticks and buttons (sanwa, seimitsu, etc.) I think they are good to play fighting games, but very bad to play shmups. I MUCH prefer my IKARUGA stick (custom made between a good friend and me) for shmups:

Have you tested that one out personally? I just bought one because these are the only easy way I'll be able to get a j360 into my cab, so I really want them to work.Ganelon wrote:If you're into casual high scores or 1CCs, that's fine. Wish I can get you to make one of those sticks for me. How much would you charge for one of them?admith wrote:Thanks, Ghegs.

I bought this a while ago and the input lag is quite high. You don't have the lag permanently, I would say two or three times every minute. I wouldn't recommend it for shmups.dmauro wrote:Have you tested that one out personally? But I have the first version. I read somewhere that the newer versions don't have input lag anymore but can't confirm it.

Thanks, folks. The best part of the stick is how good it is when playing shmups. And I can't forget, most of the merit is for my good friend Elaphe, who is already registered on this forums.
Zoel, I'm afraid it will be not possible to make another one like this. We made the joy only for ourselves and believe me, it takes a lot of work. Nevertheless, I will ask my friend and will see if we can make one for you. I will tell you with a pm.

Are you talking about the Mayflash Max Shooter or the XFPS? I hadn't heard anything about newer versions of the Mayflash adapter.antares wrote:I bought this a while ago and the input lag is quite high. Hi admith , would you happen to have the art file you used for that stick still ?admith wrote:Thanks, folks. The best part of the stick is how good it is when playing shmups. And I can't forget, most of the merit is for my good friend Elaphe, who is already registered on this forums.![]()

xpfs has a lag of approx 32-35 ms ... pretty unacceptable ... its fairly well documented due to scan frequency for input.
The only lag free adapter for a 360 is the xim2 which is a fairly expensive and over-the top homebrew adapter [the xim is connected to a 360 and 'driven' by a pc while you play] - though now you can use a mouse properly if you like fps - this being the focus of the xim project http://xim360.com/community/ <- its a great project but probably way over the top in effort and price unless you want a mouse for 360 (ps. - god damn microsoft, and cripplling hardware...)
for stick sharing you are best off creating a project box for a out of a a 360 wired pad (and then boxes for all your other consoles...) and then pluggin a stick into that [often using a 15 pin vga style plug + wiring scheme]

I believe its more or less the same for all versions of xpfs ... the iterations were basically improvements on deadzone and acceleration tweaks.... which is fundimentally impossible to do as an overall setting since each game typically has its own deadzone and response settings...
I believe the mayflash was reckoned to be slightly better but only marginally - like 25-30ms ... most my info comes from reading on the xim project since the xim software can retreive such info ...
A bit of xim forum search revealed 28 ms
http://xim360.com/community/index.php?t ... n#msg16460
combined with maybe a lcd tv lag of 4-15 ms this could become a major annoyance...
Its not a huge lag but ... since i'm already bad enough at shmups i'd say it pretty much would ruin them... Plus for the satifaction of playing and using a stick in the first place I'd have to say modding sticks seems to be the best way forward rather than adapters... its a shame ...
*edit maybe it seems a bit harsh but with approaching 40 ms - basically like playing a game over a LAN or good internet connection? ... I'm sure you could certainly do ok by it ... but it would piss me off personally

He said 28 updates per second, so wouldn't that make it 35ms of lag? But then other people are reporting the Max Shooter having less (maybe around 6ms) lag, while someone above said the XFPS was about 32-35.gray117 wrote:A bit of xim forum search revealed 28 ms

There's also this:
http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=189236
So there might be a bit of lag, but little enough that at least some people don't even think there is any, and other than that it seems pretty solid. Hopefully mine will be waiting for me in the mail today so I can test it out.

cross-post from SRK:
Okay, so I just hooked the Mayflash up to the computer along with a wired controller with the lag tester linked in the op. Everything I tested (PS2 USB adapter, USB keyboard, 360 controller, HRAP2 through Max Shooter) came up with about 16ms of lag. I don't know if this is a problem with my monitor (22" LCD running at 60Hz) or because everything is connected to USB or what. But, the good news is that the HRAP2 came up with that same ~16ms of lag going through the Mayflash Max Shooter as a wired 360 controller did.
BUT, when I tried my wireless 360 stick against the HRAP2 w/ Max Shooter in a ken vs ken mirror match [in SFIV on the 360], while attacks looked to be timed the same, the wireless arcade stick almost always won out on the same attacks with a counter hit. BUT, I wasn't activating these by closing the circuits at the exact same time, and I was using Seimitsu buttons on the wireless stick and stock hori buttons on the HRAP2, so this might have affected the timing.
Then there is some more good news: I did not have any problem executing SRKs, low forward into tatsu, ultras or supers. I didn't play for more than a minute or two, but I didn't immediately notice any inputs dropping.
SO, if anyone could tell me how to get this lag tester properly configured, I could definitively tell you that this adapter is lagless, or if I got motivated enough to open up these controllers I could try completing the circuits at the exact same time, but I'd rather just test it out on the computer.
So my preliminary report is very hopeful. I need to test this out with my padhacks, but that will take a bit of working around because those are in my cabs which is in a separate room from the 360 for now. In the meantime, someone help me out with getting this lag tester properly configured please.
