Haha, me too. Hell, if I see a bug in my house, I put it on some paper and take it outside so I won't kill it. Guess I'm crazy.
I can't kill animals. I'm not crazy and go out of my way to avoid stepping on ants or anything, but I have a real problem swatting flies and what-not. I know deep down it's only a matter of time I swerve off the road to avoid a squirrel. I just know it. I was very pissed when I was younger when my dad made no effort to avoid a chipmunk.

Oddly, I do the same thing with bugs, except I toss them in the toilet and flush 'em. I gleefully enjoy watching them struggle for life. But I could never bring myself to squish the little buggers. Very odd.

So do I, I avoid killing all things, except for the competition!!!

I once swerved to avoid a large deer at 85MPH...MAN, what a "rush"!!

Geeze, sorry to hear about it but at least your sister is ok. And as for petrol prices, Australia wins.

I hate bugs, so I squish them all.

Of course, I was sting by a bunch of yellowjackets as a kid, so now I have a phobia of stinging insects.

I remember one time the designated driver fell asleep at the wheel, we were coming back from a match in another county long drive, the mellow music was on 1 by 1 we all fell asleep.

then we here a thud thud thud as the tyres hit the slight increment of paving near the crash barriers about to slam off the road when he wakes up, bloody lucky to get out alive, had to put jungle music on the rest of the way home.

Have you seen what can happen with larger animals like that? They can go through the windscreen, which is definitely not cool. Even something smaller like a dog, while not essentially dangerous, can cause expensive damage to the car, or loss of control.

Best way to deal with animal in road, unless you're going so slowly that driving around it is easy, is to simply put the brakes on.
I think my driving instructor told me how to hit large animals on the road... it's something like braking before the impact, which lowers the hood of the car, and then letting off the brakes after impact to raise the front end again, effectively sort of scooping up the animal and giving it some upwards momentum to lift it up so it rolls over your windshield and over the rest of your car.
And if you're driving a pickup, it lands conveniently in the storage platform and you can have some nice deer roast when you get home without even having to get out of your truck.
OK so I added that last part myself...

Heh, so we have a couple of extreme cyclists here too? I do mountain bike trials! Although I'm not very good at it, but at least I can pedal-kick and surge...

When I had my Camaro, I hit a deer at 60mph. Scared the hell out of me.

That's what I happened to me. I was driving about 65-70 on the highway, it ran out, I crammed on the brakes and it hit dead center of my hood and flipped over the top of my car.

We got hit BY a deer when I was younger in a station wagon. We were riding around 55MPH and it ran down the hill, jumped over a fence, and ran into the back side door and put a giant dent into it. It got up, jumped back over the fence, and ran up the hill.

Friggin strong creatures.

We run into them all the time while mountain biking. We've run into a few very large bucks with a full rack, and those are scary. I'm glad they are afraid of us, because I woudl definitely not want to stand toe to hoof with a full sized buck.

They already do! In the official Colorado Driver's Handbook that you have to read before taking the driver's ed. class out here, it specifically says that, as regrettable as it may be, it is often times safer to hit the animal then it is to swerve out of the way.

And I hope your sister get's better soon, man. That's a pretty traumatic experience to go through.
