The very same. She woke me up at 9 to ask me if she could use it to drop an art project off at school... ten minutes later my phone was ringing and she was crying about how she crashed the car. She swerved to avoid an animal, clipped a tree and the car wound up on its side. She broke her arm and her nose. I'll have to take some better pictures when my dad gets home with the camera. That picture really doesn't show how fucked up the car was.

It's actually a SUV, a 91 Blazer, I'm just in the habit of referring to every automobile/truck/etc as a car.

One less gas guzzler for me too worry about. I can't stand SUVs, well the really BIG ones like the Expetidition and Hummers. I do not understand why people drive these things around when gas prices are so damn high. Where's the Iraqi oil that Bush recovered from Saddam's evil dictatorship?

You know what, I'm not going to turn this into a politcal debate. And Blazers are actually pretty cool, it's just that SUVs tend to piss me off in many ways.

My dad drives an SUV because he has a bad back, but is forced to drive long distances for work. Since the seats are higher off the ground than a normal car, it doesn't bother his back nearly as much and is worth the tradeoff in gas prices.

Is there anything you don't hate? ;)

It doesn't get any worse gas mileage than a regular truck, about 15-20 mpg. I don't know why people single SUVs out like their the bane of the automotive industry. Regardless, for the past 4 years I lived in the Poconos in northeast PA and in less than a month I'm moving to central New York. Getting to and from school and town is hellish in the winter without a decent 4 wheel drive truck and this year will be way worse than the previous ones considering where I'm moving to.

Sucks, doesn't it? Broke mine when I was 5 years old doing bicycle trick a-la Evil Kenieval.

No shit. In Japan it's $1+ a liter... and it was back even when gas was like $1 a gallon in the US.

My buddy could have gotten us killed about 10 years ago. We were on a 4 lane road and a racoon ran across in front of him and he swerved big time - into oncoming traffic lanes (backend broke loose to). Then he swerved back into our lanes.

Luckily it was 2am and there was no traffic.

Unless it's a deer, I aim for the little buggers.

I'm going to assume you hate pickup trucks too as they are gas guzzlers. If not, please disregard ;) But some of us actually USE the trucks to haul stuff you cannot fit into a car. Hauling lumber around in a car is a pain in the ass and near impossible for some items. ALthough I have put several 8 foot 2x4's into my T/A before.

And dirt bikes? Not unless you have a trailer, and trailers are a PITA too :)

On a different note, I really hope your sister gets better quickly. I hope my sis never gets in a bad accident :(

They need to start teaching people to not swerve from animals. It needs to be a portion of all driver's ed classes. Personally, I find it rather fun to hear the thump of a Opossum as I gleefully run my chariot over it. Oh...uhh...deer suck though....

Looks like a Chevy S-10 from the front...then again those Blazers were pretty much based of the S-10 Pickup.
These vehicles are actually smaller than your average SUV. S-10's are considered "mini trucks".
So, not really "gas guzzlers".

Then again, my Chevelle is a "gas guzzler"...what of it!?

As someone who's been burned and broken in a car accident I'm very glad your sister's going to be ok. Fuck the car man, it can be replaced. Sucks though.

Damn, bad luck man. At least your sister made it.

^Damocles: My driver's education teacher did just that...he said "your life is more important than the animal's, don't swerve for them"

My own sister has actually totalled one car (a Volvo, on top of that!), and had to get the front end replaced on another...but of course whenever her car's getting some work done on it I hafta lend her mine. Maybe totalling one's brother's car is some kinda requirement for sisters...mine hasn't done it just yet though.

As for animals, I avoid 'em when I can, but whenever the situation means either a squish for the animal or a crash for me, I'm afraid the critter's going to lose that argument.

Haha, me too. Hell, if I see a bug in my house, I put it on some paper and take it outside so I won't kill it. Guess I'm crazy.

I haven't been in an accident yet, but I've been close to being in some.

^yeah me too, except often minus the paper. i had a gf whos house had a lot of spiders in it (all houses do, but these spiders were social) and i would pick it up and take it outside. she was terrified of spiders and she hated it that i was so helpful with them.

oh as far as my collar-bone goes i broke it after jumping off a curb with my bike. i landed the bike wrong and i got thrown off the front. it was a good jump though, besides the landing of course.

"Arr, and one time I let me own sister borrow the galleon...wrecked on a reef, it was, within ten leagues of shipping off from port! And I'd just had the hull de-barnacled, the scurvy wench! Said she, she had to swerve to avoid a wayward manatee...a true cap'n does not value an inferior seafaring mammal above his own ship! Sometimes I just want to shanghai that girl...after she pays the ransom, er, insurance! Arr!"

Have you seen what can happen with larger animals like that? They can go through the windscreen, which is definitely not cool. Even something smaller like a dog, while not essentially dangerous, can cause expensive damage to the car, or loss of control.

Best way to deal with animal in road, unless you're going so slowly that driving around it is easy, is to simply put the brakes on.
