PAL SNES RGB cable?

Post by mrkotfw »

I have a US NTSC SNES which obviously outputs RGB.

The cable that I'm using to output RGB on my monitor was hacked from a PAL SNES SCART cable.

This means that pin 3 is composite sync NOT composite video:

It turns out that PAL SCART cables do not have pin 3 wired at all.

How about the RGB SCART cables offered here?

My question is: Does anyone know of a place where I can get a SNES/N64/GameCube RGB cable that will have all pins wired?

That way, I don't have to use a sync stripper. I think it adds onto the noise.

Thanks!

Moved to Hardware.

I can't seem to find one, but where can I find a good quality shielded female SCART to female/male SCART cable?

One of the ends has to be female, it doesn't matter.

Looks like I can't find one at all! I can only find SCART splitters. I wonder if that works...

I have a brand new, boxed official GameCube RGB Scart cable, if it's any help :) Am open to offers on it...but I wouldn't be prepared to let it go for too little, given it's rarity ;)

Are you talking about this one? I already have one. I'm looking for a shielded SCART cable with a plug on one end.

Have you tried just moving pin 9 to pin 3? That may work depending on your hardware. Not sure about the other cable you need, sorry.

No need. The GameCube SCART has pin 3 wired already. What I don't want to do is hack up the SCART cable. Instead, My idea is:

Code: Select all

<GameCube SCART><Female SCART plug>---<HD-15>
Just basically a SCART to HD-15 connection.

Oh, I gotcha. I actually have an adapter which does just that (SCART->HD15), only it has a sync stripper built in, which you can enable/disable -in fact the sync stripper doesn't work unless you feed it 5V.

This is the one right here:

A little pricy, but it does work. Of course, if you'd rather make the cable yourself, which is pretty easily done, a search for 'SCART extension cable' turns up tons of M/F cables.

Thanks for the help. But I can't seem to find any high quality extension cables. I only found this one. Its not shielded.

What I can also do is buy a double shielded cable with 9~21 wires already trimmed and ready to solder. Then buy a female plug, open the case and solder away!

Finding the SCART female plug is hard. I've only found one that's for PCB mounting.
