What worries me is the guys they got to play Kirk and Spock. On the cover of ET, they looked like a couple of twinks. :(

Agreed. I've always been a sucker for bridge lighting in the films (my favorites being that dark ass bridge in ST: The Motion Picture and Part 5). I'm loving the way its lit from what i've seen in the pics.

VI was my favorite movie, zero-gravity blood is awesome. My least favorite character has to be the changling security guy from DS9.. He was so damn annoying.

Wesley Crusher was the Adric of the Star Trek universe, whiny, grating whiz-kid teenager.

Oh god, another classic turned into an angsty teenagers explore their sexuality parody of itself. This is kind of like back in the early 90's when Disney and Warner Brothers decided to repackage all their cartoon franchises with the words 'Kids' or 'Babies' on the end, except now it's happening to all our sci-fi / fantasy stories such as superman and merlin and now startrek.

bump...

The new movie doesn't sound so bad the more I read about it. JJ Abrams is over the top but the people writing the script seem to respect the original stuff. It'll probably be a decent hollywood movie. It's also gotten a lot of good press from screenings so at least the masses enjoy it. I'll see it opening week, it feels good to get excited about stuff, even if your dreams are crushed later.

Similar to my thoughts. I was thinking along the lines of "Star Trek's Luke Skywalker."

My random two cents on this:

1) I'm not a trekkie and never have been.
2) The movie looks somewhat entertaining so I might see it
3) If it means more ST series get made, great, if not, whatever

That's three quips for two cents, great deal. :P

You might recall that it was the SF film of Star Trek: The Motion Picture that was released through Paramount Pictures back in 1979. It originally was supposed to be a TV series but Paramount kept throwing too much $$$ at it. Someone mentioned why not take the filmed footage of this new Star Trek TV show and make it a movie instead. The head honchos were pleased at this new and novel idea and so thus, it was released to a bunch of hype. Even McDonald's got into promoting ST:TMP film with their Kid's Meal promotion with some cool ST:TMP collectable toy prizes. At the current time back in 1979, ST:TMP film was regarded as the most expensive film ever made to the tune of $42 million dollars according to the 1980 Guiness Book of World Records edition. ^_~

Even the cool Vectrex game of Star Trek was featured in the low-budget sci-fi film of Android sans the colorful overlay screen. Very nice cameo appearance indeed. ^_~
