I'm still very skeptical about this one. As robust as the ST galaxy is, why do we need a reboot?

It's not a reboot, just a prequel.

If they can capture that classic series craziness it could be cool. Remember that episode where Kirk bet the lives of all his crew against some jello brains that he could beat up and/or have sex with their caveman slaves, and he did? That's what I'm talkin' about.

I'm looking forward to this too. Maybe I'm a poser though, not a "true" fan, I couldn't stand watching TOS so I quit after like 5 episodes. The dated look of it just killed me.
I have seen all of TNG, VOY and I'm working on ENT at the moment. Might try DS9 after that but it seemed a little dull back when I caught episodes back in the 90s.

DS9 is fucking amazing as long as you watch them sequentially or at least watched the pilot and first few episodes to figure out what's up with Bajor and Cardassia and the purpose of the wormhole and all that. DS9 really needed a monologue before each episode more than TOS or TNG ever did, it was a little more complex than "we're exploring the universe" though so maybe it would have sounded corny hearing it every time. But there was this whole game of politics to almost everything that was going on that I never picked up on catching the show as a kid. But yeah, torrents....

As for the new film, I'll probably see it in theatres opening week. It sounds like it will be entertaining. It can't be any worse than Star Trek V and I survived that.

Yeah I always watch everything sequentially. Can't do it any other way.

The little ship in front of it makes it look weird

I like DS9 but it's pretty corny a lot of the time

I hate how there's no specific use for the deflector dish, it's like the writer's get out of jail free card. 'O shit we need to do something crazy to get out of this crazy situation. TURN ON THE DEFLECTOR, MAKE IT SHOOT ANTIMATTER OR SOMETHING'

Somehow I knew it wasn't over with Nemesis and that they'd try to cash in on that stupid Enterprise series.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

The new ship remind me of American car designs from the 1950s, especially the warp nacelles. I suppose they did this on purpose to achive a retro-look. Not sure I like it.

DS9 was the only star trek series with an actual plot. Definately the best of all the series imo.

I enjoyed quantum leap thats was an series . . . But then thats not star trek is it.

DS9 could of been set anywhere with any back drop you could of set it in Serbia in the 80s/90s or in europe in WWII and it would of still made sense. inface it would of been well better if it was set in a bus shelter in 90s Serbia X-D

just swap pahsers for AKs and space ships for tanks

DS9 certainly got to be how you guys are describing it but it didnt start out that way. DS9 is a good show but nowhere near as good as TOS. TOS and the Treks that followed were different kinds of shows though. I like them all but i think the "retro" feel of TOS is pretty cool. I dig the cheesey outfits and props, the matte painted backgrounds, the awesomely nonsensical plots and constant deus ex machina. And Captain James T. Kirk is a real captain. He also has the best fighting style ever seen. In one episode he leaps feet first into a wall and pushes himself off with his feet to ram his enemy with his ass. HIS ASS. He kicked someones ass with his ass! Let me see you do better. The man is my hero..*sniff* (wipes tear out of eye).

Edit: Found a youtube link. Prepare to be humbled by the ass-fu.

TAKE THIS PURPLE NURPLE, YOU WANNABE GOD!!!

There was this "Captain's Quiz" I read a long time ago that had answers based on what Sisko, Picard, and Kirk would do in various situations.

-------------------------------------------------------------

* You receive a distress call from a freighter that's stumbled into the Neutral Zone and is under attack by lots of Romulan ships. Do you...

A. Send your condolences, but stress that you can't endanger your crew and the Federation over their mistakes.

B. Call for back-up, then proceed in cautiously at Yellow Alert.

C. Careen in with phasers blasting, hoping for the one-in-a-million chance that you will survive.

-------------------------------------------------------------

* A female scientist has information vital to Starfleet, but won't divulge it. Do you...

A. Come up with a cloak-and-dagger plan to manipulate her into revealing the truth.

B. Attempt to convince her with a long dramatic speech on the sanctity of life.

C. Have sex with her.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Real captain.

I love the original series, it can be so hilariousley bad, but also incredibly imaginative and unique, somthing the latter Trek series lacked in my opinion - when I was a kid I didn't like Next Generation, mainly because I felt there were too many moral lessons, too much sentimentality, too much Wesley Crusher and too much reliance on ridiculous techno mumbo-jumbo, usually from Geordie LaForge; "Wait a minute...if we induce a deinertialized tachion phase beam into the ships main power grid it'll cause a pulse-particle cascade failure and we can re-route the resulting tachyon pulse through the deflector dish which should overload their primary weapon systems!" But after I got into DS9, it convinced me to give Next Generation & Voyager a try, and now I enjoy all 3 immensely.

Anyways, I don't have much hope for this film. I was reading an interview with the director in Total Film and he openly admits he never liked Star Trek, always prefered Star Wars and didn't like the characters of Spock and Kirk before reading the script which is described as "A story of brotherhood between Kirk & Spock, flowing with juicy humour and deep rivers of emotion." Uh..ok.

Also, the bestest Trek clip evar;

I never understood the hate that Wesley Crusher gets from the fans. Really, if there were any two characters I hated from TNG it was Worf(pretty much had nothing to do until they introduced the whole disgraced family thing which even then was a waste) and Deanna Troi (I tend to hate voice of reason type characters. That and it usually led to an excuse to bring her annoying ass mother aboard the ship). Some of my favorite episodes involved Wesley(the whole will he or won't he snitch on his class story and the Traveller storyline). At least hate his dingbat ass mom who always finds a way to keep Picard from doing the rational thing. I hate that hoe. The only characters from TNG I could relate to was Jordi and Data.
Please, explain the hate.

I guess you could be referring to the "OMG they're gonna put Wesley to death!" episode. If not I have no idea what you're talking about, dude. Also :? @ comparing Wesley to a slut who won't put out. (I love that term put out btw)

She was sexy but also kind of annoying. Anyway the best character in Voyager by far and possibly the best character in any startreck series has to be the emergency holographic doctor:
