It just wouldn't be Half Life 2 if it didn't take 5 years.
No kidding. I remember one of the first HL2 mods to get any notice was a sort of Jurassic Park takeoff, I guess called Jurassic Rage. It was going to have the ability to play as dinosaurs (hah!) perhaps, security forces (?), and possibly infiltrators. Some people put out some nice flatshaded models and the thing quietly died.
At least BM Source is the sort of project that could conceivably get finished.
This reminds me a little bit of Fortress Forever, the Team Fortress Classic-style TF2 spoiler game. Because you haven't lived unless you've flown across the map on drugs, I guess.

It's a joke, but Half-Life: Source has Source physics *and* HL2-style skyboxes (although rather primitive ones; you can now look down and see a little cheap bridge on the cliff-hugging section, where you first get the rocket launcher). Valve never included Gearbox Software's better models; in fact, owners of Blue Shift don't get the best quality models available when using the high-def pack, just ones that are significantly better than the game originally had (although wtf @ M4 rifle firing pistol bullets).
