Zombie Apocalypse set to invade PSN and XBLA
Zombie Apocalypse set to invade PSN and XBLA
It's cool to post about dual-stick arena shooters in chat now correct?
I can't say too much right now, but those of you that know me in real life be sure to look for me in the credits when this drops!

So you just run around and bump into things, that's the gameplay?
lol @ L4D level on the IGN video too.

No arenas don't connect to one another. We really wanted to touch on as many truly classic "zombie" environments as we could, and so we ended up with very distinct backdrops that just didn't make sense to be walking between.kemical wrote:i'm curious, are there multiple branching connections between areas? Looks like what a Smash TV or Robotron remake should look like really.
This is very much a pure arcade game in the heritage of Robotron. I've been working to make it worthy of a 1CC run, and I can't wait to see who's the first to do it.

We were as surprised at the similarities as anyone when L4D came out. We had our characters already concepted and modeled months before L4D started to show off its characters. It's just that we're all pulling from the same source material. I'm a huge zombie movie fan, so when we started production I really wanted to have a character based on Duane Jones from Night of the Living Dead, and I guess Valve felt the same. The airport stage was actually inspired by Umberto Lenzi's Nightmare City, and then Valve came along and did "Dead Air." Geeks of a feather...worstplayer wrote:Too many L4D references, way too many. Anyway, looks like fun game.
Should hopefully be out sometime in May.

I'd also like to state that I don't mean to go all Dennis Dyack on this game and start defending every design choice. I posted it here because I served as a Design Lead on the project and was responsible for pacing, difficulty-ramping, tuning, and creating the majority of the encounters. I had you guys in mind when I was working on it, and I'd really like to see how its received by the true shmup-o's. Some of you may totally hate it, and that's fine.
This title began at Nihilistic after we finished Conan as an in-house labor of love - a little side-project to have fun with between big projects. With luck, Konami came along and fell in love with it too and decided to publish it. I've worked hard to make it a quality shooter, but this is my first time working in a lead role, and I want to continue to make better and better games, hopefully better and better arcade games, so I'm totally open to any and all feedback once it finally is released. I want to hear straight-up how you guys respond to it, even if you only play the demo, because that's the only way to make the next one even better.

Also, interesting that there will be multiple game modes. I'll be interested to see how they change the game mechanics when some videos of this hit. It's unfortunate that the game needs a PS3, but eventually everybody will have one, right?

I hope you guys get a first-pass approval for this game on both platforms! ._./8 1/2 wrote:I'm not sure actually. It's all up to Konami now. We're nearing the end of beta, so it should be going into submissions here pretty soon. I'd guess less than 6 weeks.jonny5 wrote:when can we expect a demo?

Zombie Apocalypse will be on X-Play tonight.
Here's a direct feed of our design director, John Knowles playing through the demo. It gives some good detail on the score system and how the multiplier works.
